Vantomme is top dog with Rowe and Vaitkus listed next.
Then yesturday's winner Guillen followed by Kreder.
Rather boring start to the race as we have gone 15kms without an opening attack.
We reach the first sprint point without an attack, that makes 71.5kms of easy riding.
As expect a few of the sprinter go after the bonus seconds.
Guillen (Wearing Green)
Vantomme (Who Gets A Little Boxed In)
Kip (Coming From Behind)
Guillen takes it by a few bike lengths cutting his deficit to Cornu from 24 seconds to 18 seconds, and also grabs that green jersey he is wearing outright over Cornu for the moment.
Vantomme just beats Kip for 2nd. Bringing Vantomme to 14 seconds and Kip down to 10 seconds. The only other sprinter to contest further back in the pack is Van Poppel.
When I said Cornu would probably like a less dramatic day at the end of stage 2, surely he didn't want it to be this boring. 100kms to go, no attacks. If this keeps up Cornu is going to give up more time to the sprinters without a breakaway taking away the sprint checkpoint bonus seconds.
You would think after saying that somebody would attack...
you would be wrong. Here comes sprint point #2.
Kip and Guillen are right next to each other with Vantomme located behind that BPost rider on the left side.
Even being a few riders back, Vantomme times his jump to perfection.
And he takes the 6 seconds, the battle for 2nd however is more contest.
If you look to the left Kreder has entered into the picture.
Kreder storms up the outside to take 2nd before Guillen hangs on to beat Kip for those last 2 seconds/points.
3 riders are dropped for rather no reason other then not paying attention and the have no intention of rejoining the peloton. They coast all the way to the finish and just remain within the time limit to stay in the race.
Hicks
Dupont
Millar
We hit the only non-flat section on the route, will this affect any of the sprinters? It really shouldn't given the fact they didn't have to chase anybody down today.
However, incline does take a victim, Kavsek. But he is probably still feeling the effects of his crash yesterday.
Round 3 of the sprinters duel.
Vantomme, Guillen, and then Kip. Their current standings after the sprint:
Vantomme (36 Points) (+2" )
Guillen (37 Points) (+12" )
Kip (18 Points) (+8" )
La Lavandier after protecting Cornu all day has now dropped off the back with 9kms to go.
5kms to go, BCR and Rothaus form two trains at the front.
Here comes ING right up the middle! 3 trains!
Iglinski Thire Morales Van Heerden Kip Cano Vantomme Vaitkus Guillen Rowe Kreder Docker Drujon
Airbaltic really have split their cards here.
Iglinski and Morales peel off as Thire jumps out in front and Kip has to reel back in his teammate. While on the far right Fabbri and Keukeleire are entering the picture.
Kip has totally lost control of his lead-out partner! This allows Van Poppel to cut him off and the rest of his train.
The remaining lead-out men step aside as Guillen makes his lunge to the finish line with 900 meters to go.
Unlike yesterday, Guillen has mistimed his jump. Vantomme goes around him on the left and Docker flys by on the right.
And then Rowe and Van Poppel are around Guillen. He goes from 1st to 5th just like that.
It's wheel to wheel!
Docker pulls away from a late fading Vantomme for the win!
And his teammate Rowe takes 3rd.
Behind it's Van Poppel, Vaitkus, the Sweedbank duo of Kreder and Hushovd. 8th to Traksel with Van Loocke in 9th. Guillen slips all the way back to 10th.
In terms of the overall picture, Cornu's time is up...
Vantomme wins 2 sprint points and gets 2nd in the other combined with a 2nd at finish gets you a new leader of the Olympia's Tour.
