Our first sprint stage saw an opportunistic jump from Intesa's Traksel, with Pokerstars German sprint machine Eric Mohs taking the leaders jersey on time bonuses. His sprint rivals are the ones to watch for today with Bozic (at 7 seconds, Traksel (at 9 seconds), Giaux (at 17 seconds), Swift (at 18 seconds) and Markov (at 19 seconds) probably the ones best to keep an eye on.

This stage has an early sprint at 30 km and a fairly late one in the last 20 kilometres with another stick in the middle. The weather is not so good so everyone is happy to stay in the pack until the first sprint. Mohs and his pokerstars team are not just vigilante its clear their intentions are to get the German as far away as possible from his rivals.

Loddo (Pirelli) is second gaining him 4 seconds and Markov is 3rd gaining him two seconds. But Mohs now has a very nice 12 second lead. With this achieved the poker game squad would be happy to let a breakaway go away, step forward Youtube...

Also moving forward at this point was Polito of Bbox and former leader Butterfield of Pendletons. Again Pendleton's are trying something here, it's unlikely with many sprinters teams no doubt keen to pull things back fast. Millar because of yesterdays pace setting and Wiggins because of yesterdays break have already fallen off of the GC leaderboard.

The hope is of course that Butterfield will gain the maximum bonus and either stay away or at least hold onto the peleton when it catches them. Unfortunately these two do not catch Barclay and he takes the bonus, Butterfield takes second to at least move himself forward four seconds. The rainy weather means higher likelihood of punctures and here is one.

Not the best time to receive a puncture and as the pace is now on he will not get back. Who is setting the pace, well Pokerstars and 100% Me for starters and later joined by the chocolate squad of Milka.

The peleton catches the two men and then Barclay with 24 km to go, which means we have another bonification to think about. Pokerstars are setting it up in their usual dominant way.

The race leader puts on a superb example of power to take the sprint ahead of Markov and Vanderaerden (Milka).

As Pokerstars have dominated so far everyone was waiting for their train and when it didn't arrive a Falcon rider made a surprise jump.

There seems to be some sort of Pokerstars communication perhaps because this rider is of course on loan from them to Falcon for this season. Anyway his jump has really caught the other sprinters with their pants down.

Intesa's sprinters Hautorovich and Traksal, along with Tinkoff sprinter Markob get their act together and are starting to close. As for Mohs he is a bit back as you can see.

The chase

The Milka man is Dall'Antonia, his sprinter Foraro has sent him forward obviously feeling off. Mohs is clearly out of energy and Swift well he really is not so swift today. Meanwhile the chasers run out of road.

Markov makes the second place and Traksel gets third to move up and close some of the gap lost to Mohs on todays bonifications.
