Olympia's Tour - Stage 5
roturn
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/OlympiasTour/mg2014_olympiatour_5_PCM0001.jpg

4th sprint stage in a row but eventually the last?
Tomorrow we will have the possibly GC deciding 11km time trial and then a classic stage with some pavement and hills. So it`s not easy to say what will happen on that final stage.

Todays favourite now must be i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/cal.png Holloway, who performed well with 2 stage wins recently as also i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/pum.png Ciolek, who took the first win.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/OlympiasTour/mg2014_olympiatour_5_PCM0002.jpg

Only KoM today and the winner will get as many points as the KoM leader Brandao.
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/vtb.png Kohler
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/bbk.png Honkisz
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ttt.png Lebris
the order here and so first one is also having 6 points now after missing any points yesterday despite having been in the breakaway.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/OlympiasTour/mg2014_olympiatour_5_PCM0004.jpg

Seeing the full group now it`s a pity for Karcher as Brandao is also part of the group but was not strong enough to get the needed points to keep the single lead.
Next to the three above we have three more breakaway riders:
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/tcu.png Wilson
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/kar.png Brandao
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/cal.png Gaudin

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/OlympiasTour/mg2014_olympiatour_5_PCM0013.jpg

The only sprint is also won by Kohler who gaps Lebris and Gaudin behind.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/OlympiasTour/mg2014_olympiatour_5_PCM0016.jpg

On todays very short day it is only La Vie Claire doing the pace behind. More than 6km to go but the gap stayed at just a bit more than 2min all day. Having Sonnery in the working trio might explain his weak sprint performances here as his tasks are obviously only for Reus.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/OlympiasTour/mg2014_olympiatour_5_PCM0020.jpg

With 39km to go it`s already over for the breakaway. La Vie Claire really wanted a sprint finish which is quite weird actually as bonus seconds for sprinters hurt them a lot when they want to podium or even win with Reus.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/OlympiasTour/mg2014_olympiatour_5_PCM0022.jpg

The sprinter teams so far had an easy day. So it`s not a surprise that they take over now to avoid more attacks. Puma, Quickstep and Meiji are the three usual sprint teams here and are keeping a high pace now.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/OlympiasTour/mg2014_olympiatour_5_PCM0024.jpg

Crash! It`s sprinter i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/afr.png Maksimov, who hits the ground with 36km to go.
Immediately 4 riders stop and wait for him.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/OlympiasTour/mg2014_olympiatour_5_PCM0029.jpg

Thanks to Van Heerden, Day, Redecker and Smit he can make it back in time. But he needs to come forward to the front rows soon before the pace goes up another time.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/OlympiasTour/mg2014_olympiatour_5_PCM0031.jpg

It really wasn`t the most ideal weather for cycling this week so far with lots of rain. And this causes the next crash after a corner. And again one of the unlucky Chiquita riders, that really have issues with crashing here. It`s i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/tcu.png Rathe being now in a group with his team mates Wilson and Griffith.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/OlympiasTour/mg2014_olympiatour_5_PCM0033.jpg

Strong performance by the Meiji riders. Actually the Quickstep train with Coquard and Van Asbroeck totally got destroyed on the last 2km and so Vantomme smartly decided to hang behind Lo Cicero, while also Ciolek has only Giaux left ahead of him after Minard exhausted early.
Meiji still with two riders left in front of their lead sprinter.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/OlympiasTour/mg2014_olympiatour_5_PCM0046.jpg

2,2km and Modolo vs. Giaux for best leadout.
The Puma train at least closed the gap but Modolo should be less exhausted as he just had to take over from Arashiro.
Ciolek, Lo cicero, Vantomme, Holloway and Goss the top sprinters behind.
All others with a small gap already.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/OlympiasTour/mg2014_olympiatour_5_PCM0053.jpg

Strong effort by i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/abc.png Castaneda who closes the gap to Goss wheel. But this must have cost him a lot of energy.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/OlympiasTour/mg2014_olympiatour_5_PCM0055.jpg

900m and Lo Cicero starts his sprint in a corner.
Vantomme and Holloway right behind with Goss and Ciolek coming then.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/OlympiasTour/mg2014_olympiatour_5_PCM0057.jpg

But it`s Holloway accelerating the best after the corner and quickly takes the lead!
Also Goss is coming very fast while Vantomme and Ciolek somehow missing the top speed of the riders ahead.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/OlympiasTour/mg2014_olympiatour_5_PCM0059.jpg

Castaneda fighting against Giaux behind them while Granjel Cabrera, Kreder and Fonseca are next. But those won`t be able to come back.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/OlympiasTour/mg2014_olympiatour_5_PCM0062.jpg

What a dominance by Holloway! With a huge gap he also takes todays stage making it three in a row! Who would have had expected this?

Goss with a good sprint once again as 2nd but he needs to be more consistent.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/OlympiasTour/mg2014_olympiatour_5_PCM0063.jpg

Lo Cicero just takes 3rd ahead of a very fast Granjel Cabrera in the end who lacked the positioning skills today.
Vantomme 5th ahead of Castaneda and a disappointing Ciolek.
Modolo, Giaux and Kreder complete the top10.

In the end La Vie Claire`s work today did not really end positive for them with Holloway extending the gap even more being the top favourite for the GC now. Tomorrows time trial though will be crucial for all contesters.
