Tropicale Amissa Bongo - Stage 6
roturn
imageshack.us/a/img27/1599/mg2013tropicale6296.jpg

Last stage of the Tropicale Amissa Bongo and the hills haven`t delivered any gaps. So even today we can see lots of changes here due to time bonuses. But the course seems to suit the sprinters, who might get all the bonus seconds instead. On the other hand there is a tough climb on every lap and also the KoM jersey might be highly contested with 4 Cat.4 climbs.

imageshack.us/a/img89/2935/mg2013tropicale6298.jpg

6 riders in todays breakaway and once again i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/var_zps06f2aa1f.png Pagoto, who surely wants the KoM jersey.
The others are i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/vwm_zps2ffcd386.png Preidler, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/jag_zps1b91f70a.png Abelouache, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/mtn_zps3dcc4d70.png Meintjes, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/pvl_zps0bcc4e74.png De Bie and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/bps_zps2b426596.png Curfs.

imageshack.us/a/img826/6425/mg2013tropicale6300.jpg

The sprint at the early KoM starts and surprisingly the only rider with any points there, Pagoto, isn`t doing anything...All other riders go for it.

imageshack.us/a/img838/1738/mg2013tropicale6302.jpg

Abelouache ahead of Meintjes and Preidler is the order with Pagoto coming through as last. Bad news for Vespa as he seems to have no interest to get these few points.

imageshack.us/a/img715/3621/mg2013tropicale6305.jpg

WWE, Vueling and Armavia are doing the pace. All 3 expect their sprinters to survive the hills but with 75km to go and a gap of almost 5min the pace needs to become higher, which is not ideal for them.

imageshack.us/a/img585/7405/mg2013tropicale6307.jpg

2nd KoM and Pagoto is finally doing something. Behind Preidler he is 2nd ahead of Abelouache. Important points as he is tied with KoM leader Njoroge now.

imageshack.us/a/img547/3286/mg2013tropicale6309.jpg

Even though he again fought for it, he wasn`t able to get points at the 3rd KoM. Preidler slowly climbing the rankings, so is Abelouache, who was 2nd.
Curfs just takes the 3rd ahead of Pagoto.

imageshack.us/a/img571/3513/mg2013tropicale6311.jpg

36km left and still the same teams doing the pace. 2'40 is the actual gap and a sprint seems probable.

imageshack.us/a/img849/5356/mg2013tropicale6313.jpg

Last and deciding KoM. Preidler once again wins and good news for Vespa as Pagoto takes the 2nd and the lead in the KoM. Meintjes as 3rd takes one point.

So the KoM decision is done. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/var_zps06f2aa1f.png Pagoto wins by 3 points ahead of the tied Njoroge and Preidler, who collected all points today.
Abelouache also collected a lot of points today but it`s just enough for the 4th.

imageshack.us/a/img38/3290/mg2013tropicale6315.jpg

17km left and bad luck for i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/spr_zps39a3252c.png Schurter. He punctures and as the pace is very high now it`s doubtful if the 20th in the GC can come back.

imageshack.us/a/img405/8325/mg2013tropicale6321.jpg

With 7km/1 lap to go the group is caught and Schurter is still 3min behind. He definitely will lose his 20th today.

imageshack.us/a/img805/2816/mg2013tropicale6323.jpg

Vueling is the only real train today and as Reimer is the first leadout rider ahead of Pedersen and Kennaugh, they obviously went for the stage win instead of improving in the GC, which is a shame as he could have won it with a 1st or 2nd today.
Behind Kennaugh it`s Ben Nasser already, who surely wants to gain some positions as well.
Pineau, Wegmann, Smukulis and then Drujon are also in decent positions.
But it already shows how hard this last stage was when the puncheurs have the better position.
Armavia`s Lo Cicero or Vingerling are far behind and won`t win today.

imageshack.us/a/img805/1237/mg2013tropicale6331.jpg

Vueling with a gap. But it`s not Kennaugh. Nor is it Reimer. It`s Pedersen and now the tactic is even more weird.

imageshack.us/a/img827/2507/mg2013tropicale6333.jpg

Reimer is coming closer again while Kennaugh can`t accelerate. Wegmann, Ben Nasser and Pineau the other riders still fighting.

imageshack.us/a/img832/7273/mg2013tropicale6336.jpg

Wegmann overtakes Reimer and also Ben Nasser is coming. These three will decide todays podium and so it`s a shame that Vueling weren`t riding for Reimer today.

imageshack.us/a/img805/3869/mg2013tropicale6339.jpg

Or was it too early? Flügel just came out of nowhere and is almost with Reimer while Ben Nasser attacks Wegmann.

imageshack.us/a/img27/3355/mg2013tropicale6341.jpg

But the German wins by a small gap. The 20 bonus seconds will also put him on the 2nd in the GC behind Sander Armee, who surprisingly takes the overall win.
Ben Nasser`s 2nd puts him on the 6th.

imageshack.us/a/img402/482/mg2013tropicale6343.jpg

As fast as Flügel came from behind as fast he also lost his speed again. So it`s Reimer taking a nice 3rd bringing him the 4th overall behind the surprise Khalilikhosroshani.
Smukulis-Van der Lijke, Flügel, Pineau the next riders over the line but all without bonus seconds.

In the GC Dowsett keeps his top 5 and succeeds the team goal, while Hoogerland, Froome, Salerno and Smukulis all take the remaining top 10 spots here.

So many different riders collected bonus seconds and no one, who won a stage was able to get any more bonus seconds, so it`s even harder for Volkswagen as Flügel would have won the GC without his bad 2nd stage.

Flügel at least gets the tied win of the points jersey with Armee while Kenya dominates the other jerseys. Winning the team and Youth competition is a great success for them.
