Tropicale Amissa Bongo - Stage 5
roturn
imageshack.us/a/img16/1112/mg2013tropicale5250.jpg

Last real chance probably to create any gaps. Otherwise all riders with bonus seconds already can be happy. Positive thing for the excitment that so many different riders were able to get some.

imageshack.us/a/img201/7844/mg2013tropicale5251.jpg

6 riders were able to create a 3min gap on top of the first climb.
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/src_zps90f6d964.png Barta
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/wwe_zpsb6c72e16.png Astarloza
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/pvl_zps0bcc4e74.png Hansen
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/bps_zps2b426596.png Lietaer
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/var_zps06f2aa1f.png Pagoto
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/cis_zpsa215ca85.png Gruzdev

So it`s a calm day for the CT teams, who didn`t send any guy surprisingly.

imageshack.us/a/img822/8997/mg2013tropicale5255.jpg

Hansen as 38th with more than 3min behind it not the biggest danger. So he also isn`t focussing more at the sprint.
Astarloza, Gruzdev and Hansen is the order here.
The gap is at 4min now but we also have i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/spr_zps39a3252c.png Hugentobler in between. The Sauber rider obviously was forced to go the long solo way as the team missed the opportunity earlier today.

imageshack.us/a/img594/2573/mg2013tropicale5259.jpg

55km left and HTC and Vueling really don`t go that fast. 5'22 for the group with Hugentobler still being 1'20 behind and not being much faster.
The bonus seconds could be that important on one hand. On the other hand HTC is probably quite happy with the breakaway as they could steal the seconds. Other teams in especially Vueling or Jaguar would need to do something.
Also Bpost is a bit in a dilemma. On one hand Gautier is one of the favourites without any bonus seconds yet. On the other hand they have a rider in the group.

imageshack.us/a/img199/2397/mg2013tropicale5261.jpg

Lietaer, Astarloza and Pagoto the order at the KoM.
Surprising that Pagoto isn`t doing more as he had the chance to switch into the lead there. Also Astarloza still has good chances.

imageshack.us/a/img850/6403/mg2013tropicale5263.jpg

And the next uncontested sprint. It really could be more exciting for the few spectators there.
Pagoto, Hansen and Astarloza in this order.

imageshack.us/a/img833/8238/mg2013tropicale5266.jpg

Forget what I said earlier about bonus seconds. Suddenly HTC is increasing the pace. Armee really seems to feel strong then I guess.
28km to go and the gap is down to 3min.
Roulston and Vingerling lost contact recently, while some riders are already 14min back and not going very quick so they could fall out of the time limit today.
These are Matzka, Decouttere, Scarponi and Ben Youcef.

imageshack.us/a/img62/6733/mg2013tropicale5268.jpg

24km left and another 20s gone. But finally Hugentobler found contact after a very long solo.

imageshack.us/a/img195/3112/mg2013tropicale5270.jpg

Last sprint and again Pagoto crosses the line first. Behind him Gruzdev and Barta.
The gap looking a bit better again. With 17km left they still have 2'30.

imageshack.us/a/img706/6593/mg2013tropicale5273.jpg

Not that far until the last climb. 7,6km for the peloton with a 1'30 gap.
Attack by the guy with the worst name for a reporter...
i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh498/Hiiam2412/Barclayskenmicro_zps52dc0de5.png Khalilikhosroshani

imageshack.us/a/img837/2177/mg2013tropicale5275.jpg

Also in front an attack. Astarloza and surprisingly Hugentobler after his long solo have a small gap. Astarloza was already in this situation on another stage. There Kangangi was able to win while he was dropped a bit.

imageshack.us/a/img708/5862/mg2013tropicale5277.jpg

With the breakaway and also the peloton coming closer again Hugentobler attacks again with Astarloza trying to follow.
Only 20s to the next group of 6 including Khalilikhosroshani and another 20s to the peloton and still 3,6km to go.

imageshack.us/a/img802/7249/mg2013tropicale5279.jpg

Khalilikhosroshani is obviously stronger and overtakes the duo. 28s with 3,3km to go.

imageshack.us/a/img96/2130/mg2013tropicale5281.jpg

2km and only the Kenya Airways rider in front. The top puncheurs are in the first row of the still 80 rider peloton.
Gautier, Froome, Dowsett and Armee in the best position with Flügel a bit behind them. Reimer just hangs on Flügel while the others have a bit longer to go.

imageshack.us/a/img35/4087/mg2013tropicale5289.jpg

Final kilometer and what a fight by him. He still has a small gap and yet no favourite did even try to attack.
De Maar, Froome, Dowsett and Flügel now the first four in the peloton with Armee struggling?

imageshack.us/a/img41/8523/mg2013tropicale5293.jpg

Froome finally shows, that he is the top puncheur and is so close to him. Behind him Flügel once again shows what he could have reached with Dowsett behind him. Fight for the bonus seconds.

imageshack.us/a/img716/9821/mg2013tropicale5294.jpg

But the big bonus seconds go to Khalilikhosroshani. What a win and already the 2nd for the team. Brilliant performance by him and as Froome finishes 2nd taking the first bonus seconds and Flügel as 3rd not playing a role he will move up to 2nd in the GC and also gets the Youth jersey by Dowsett.
Dowsett as 4th today will be 3rd in the GC after today but with the bonus seconds Froome might have stolen by him here he would have taken the lead...on the other hand they have two inside the top5.

imageshack.us/a/img571/4394/mg2013tropicale5295.jpg

Gautier as 5th once again without seconds being the unlucky puncheur here. At least they are counted the same time.
De Maar and Armee with a good HTC performance. Salerno another solid result ahead of Wang and Bochman.

Also some riders gave up. It`s the mentioned group we had earlier. Shame as they lost contact early and refused to do any work.
