Giro d'Italia - Stage 16

A completely flat stage for the first time this race. Ideal for the sprinters who have survived.

Alternatively: Stage 16 of the Giro, and a flat stage to allow respite from the climbs. The peloton won't be too interested today, so breakaway heaven. Plus many sprinter teams have lost vital domestiques to the time cut.

Four climbers go into the break. Their lead peaks at 13 minutes, with the sprinter teams leaving it all to Lotto - Australia Post. It has dipped a little to 9 minutes when, with 32km to go for the peloton (25km to go for the Break), the sprinters teams suddenly set to work. It is Pokerstars, Aker and Metinvest.

18km to go for the break, their lead is 7 and a half minutes still, and they start attacking each other. Pantano Gomez and Vuillermoz want to go clear.

Their joint effort failed. Vuillermoz went by himself, couldnt go away. Pantano Gomez tries again with 10km to go. 5 minutes is the lead.
