We've left Sicily behind for Stage 4 to Amantea. Some big climbs on route before two laps of a circuit in Amantea which has a small hill in it. It's a stage that ought to suit the likes of Pozzato, Ponzi, Degenkolb and Roelandts.
It took some effort for a break to be formed. McCarthy, Kudus and Viennet each got clear of the peloton, and only joined together once a substantial gap had been formed.
These climbs seem to suit the puncheurs more than the pure climbers, with Mccarthy looking the strongest. He took the first climb, but lost out to a late surge from Kudus and Viennet at the second.
Kudus is therefore the top scorer today with 14 points. It puts him 3rd, with Scarponi retaining the lead there.
With 25km to go, the lead of the break was just 1'30 - and at this point McCarthy attacked to go solo.
Aker, Volkswagen, Bouygues and Pokerstars have been involved in the chase.
The wind is fairly strong on this near-coastal road, and suddenly the peloton begins to fall apart.
Brambilla, Costagli, Gomez Marchante, Scarponi, Dombrowski, Kwiatkowski, Samwel, Ricco and Sella are amongst those to fall behind.
Infact there is only 38 riders left! Pokerstars are really applying the pressure and now it is Popovych on the back foot. He fights back to cling on in there.
There's a minute between the two pelotons, as the final Amantea lap begins - McCarthy on a great ride, still out front.
But he is eventually caught, as the Pokerstars, Aker and Bouygues sprint trains begins to form. Impressive they are able to do so after such a hard raced day.
It's all back together behind as well, as the second peloton have caught up again. That's Ricco in 2nd wheel, but all credit must go to Caruso who closed down the gap almost single handedly over the last couple of kilometres.
3km to go and the sprint is beginning. Petit drops off to set up Bakelandts and Roelandts. Aker have Ziesler to lead Impey, while Pokerstars go with Maaskant for Degenkolb.
Ponzi, Trofimov, Pozzato, Hoffman, Cunego, Pluchkin, Meyer, Reimer, Fumeaux and Madrazo are all well placed.
Bakelants is some lead out man to have, but he has to be careful on this 7% gradient - it suits him much more than it suits Roelandts.
Ponzi and Impey spot the danger and bridge across. Cunego leads the chase ahead of Maglia Rosa rivals Pluchkin and Trofimov - while Dan Martin is also in the mix now.
Bakelandts may have misjudged this as he pulls out a gap on Roelandts. Ponzi opts to take a breather behind Roelandts for now, as Impey advances.
Impey now takes the lead from Bakelandts, while Trofimov is looking fast now - moving well away from Pluchkin
Cunego and Reimer are still in there, while Ponzi has now launched his second sprint alongside Trofimov. After all his team's work, the finish seems to have been slightly too hard for Degenkolb.
Impey starts to fade. Bakelants retakes the lead but here comes Ponzi.
Trofimov goes into 3rd - the Maglia Rosa beckons - while from a long way back Pozzato is now on a charge, having messed up the start of his sprint.
But in a back and forth sprint, it is Ponzi who times it right, to win his 2nd stage of the race!
Second for Bakelandts, and remarkably it is Pozzato in 3rd after an insanely fast finish. That is very crucial too as it denies Trofimov the bonus seconds that would have put him back in Pink. That doesn't save Pluchkin though - instead Ponzi becomes the new race leader.
Impey ends up 5th, from Reimer, Cunego and Pluchkin.
Degenkolb, Roelandts, Meyer and Martin are also here, but a gap has suddenly emerged behind.
A 31 second split is given between Dan Martin and Stefan Denifl. A very good gain for the GC riders in the Top 12 of Pluchkin, Trofimov, Martin and Cunego.
The fast stage took more victims further down. Sinkewitz was one of the last to finish, clearly injured from Stage 2. But right at the back, 3 riders missed the time limit: Nechita, Ferreira and Daniel.
