Another sprinters stage today and again it should be between Boonen and Petacchi. The stage today is longer than the previous, so Bos is odds on to get dropped.

Today we have Pineau (Cycling24), Moreni (France TV), D'Hollander (Belgium), Kruopis (AG2R), Knees (Fed-Ex), Bernucci (Carlsberg), Marichal (Saturn).

Bernucci took the first sprint ahead of Pineau and Moreni. Then with 95kms to the finish, 27th in the GC, Vaitkus punctured and never saw the peleton again. D'Hollander won the second sprint ahead of Bernucci and Kruopis. Pineau took the final sprint ahead of Moreni and Marichal.

Then the inevitable happened:

Theo Bos got dropped with 24kms left to race, a good effort by him. Unfortunatley for Cycling24 Magnus Bäckstedt thought it would be best to stay with Bos so he was dropped as well.

The peleton then reeled in the breakway with 17kms to go. With 3kms to go the sprint was go and looked like this:

Pollack is leading out Petacchi perfectly.Petacchi has Förster, Bennati, Van Heerden and Cavendish in his wheel. On the far side, Weylandt is going for a long one and failing miserably. Simòn is being led-out by Ventoso, but a crash later on would rule him out (no time gaps though). Boonen is way back in the wheel of Casteñada.

With 1km to go Petacchi has only just come out of Pollack's wheel, what a great lead-out by him. Bennati and Cavendish have just come out of their respective wheels and are sprinting into the strong wind now.

Petacchi takes a well deserved win, Bennati takes 2nd and Boonen a very impressive 3rd considering how far back he came from. Cavendish once again chose the wheel of Van Heerden and once again was badly position. Also with the time bonus', Boonen is now just 3 seconds off Cancellara in the GC.
