Circulo de Juarez - Stage 1
cio93
i1050.photobucket.com/albums/s408/Cio1993/Juarez/Stage1_zpsf20a1e68.jpg
It's a sunny start into the race for everyone that travelled to Mexico for these five days of flatness.

A first break establishes quickly but does not manage to stay away until the first categorized climb.
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/afr.png Wesemann attacks out of the peloton and past those riders to grab full points on top.

Cat.4 i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/afr.png Wesemann i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/wwr.png Bajadali i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/bon.png Borges
i1050.photobucket.com/albums/s408/Cio1993/Juarez/Stage%201/PCM0001_zps2c3250c6.jpg

The drop in pace that ensues does allow three riders to get away and form today's break.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/lpu.png Cerny i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/hrc.png van Poppel i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/afr.png Seibeb
i1050.photobucket.com/albums/s408/Cio1993/Juarez/Stage%201/PCM0002_zps24d993cd.jpg

The Dutchman is by far the best sprinter of them and shows exactly that soon after.

Sprint i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/hrc.png van Poppel i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/lpu.png Cerny i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/afr.png Seibeb
i1050.photobucket.com/albums/s408/Cio1993/Juarez/Stage%201/PCM0003_zps0422934b.jpg

The gap tops out at 7'20 with 100k to go when multiple teams join forces. Interesting to see i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/onc.png Guillen sacrifices i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/onc.png Schachmann and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/onc.png Benito early on.
Meanwhile, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/afr.png Sognezo Jim punctured and won't catch the end of the peloton again today.
i1050.photobucket.com/albums/s408/Cio1993/Juarez/Stage%201/PCM0004_zps574335ef.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/lpu.png Cerny surprises at the front by staying in i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/hrc.png van Poppel's slipstream long enough to pass him on the line for the last bonus seconds ahead of the finish line.
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/afr.png Seibeb is too weak a sprinter to keep contact and decides to drop back through the 3-minute gap to the bunch before the last hill.

Sprint i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/lpu.png Cerny i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/hrc.png van Poppel i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/afr.png Seibeb
i1050.photobucket.com/albums/s408/Cio1993/Juarez/Stage%201/PCM0005_zpsd3b20aac.jpg

That prize is taken by i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/lpu.png Cerny without a lot of competition.
Behind, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/afr.png Wesemann just fails to secure the jersey outright and has to watch
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/wwr.png Bajadali taking the last points on offer.
However, he still gets to wear the jersey tomorrow, a nice start into the race for the PCT team.

Cat.4 i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/lpu.png Cerny i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/hrc.png van Poppel i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/wwr.png Bajadali
i1050.photobucket.com/albums/s408/Cio1993/Juarez/Stage%201/PCM0006_zps41de982e.jpg

The break returns into the sight of the peloton on this long strech leading into the last 15 kilometres of the race, and they are quickly swamped up by a storming field.
i1050.photobucket.com/albums/s408/Cio1993/Juarez/Stage%201/PCM0007_zps75731750.jpg

Under the 5k banner, unsurprisingly many sprint trains try to emerge at the front, with Bank of Ireland having the best position for now. You cannot but admire the effort of ONCE today, they have assembled all three team mates of i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/onc.png Guillen ahead of him despite helping the chase all day.
Will exactly that prove costly in a few minutes though?
Notably absent for now is i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/bon.png Manarelli who tries to work his way through a bit further behind.

i1050.photobucket.com/albums/s408/Cio1993/Juarez/Stage%201/PCM0008_zps7a16869f.jpg

Gudsell quickly falters though, leaving i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/boi.png Drapac with one man less than i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/onc.png Guillen and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/azt.png Farrar. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/onc.png Schachmann does the job of his lifetime after chasing for 3 hours and puts ONCE in a clear lead. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/lpu.png Peeters and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/alp.png Forero benefit the most.
The ASDA train completely disintegrated over these last few metres and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/tas.png Rowe does look like continuing his literally pointless season for now.
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/rse.png Sutton is the Risa rider on the Azteca line which now consists of the correct order after i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/azt.png Farrar found i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/azt.png Haedo's wheel, while i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/rse.png Matthews gambles on i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/boi.png Drapac still having a shot.
i1050.photobucket.com/albums/s408/Cio1993/Juarez/Stage%201/PCM0009_zpsb978ff30.jpg

Fatigue indeed hits i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/onc.png Schachmann like a brick and while i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/onc.png Guillen does not look out of it at all looking at this picture, he lost a lot of speed when the German struggled to peel off clean.
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/boi.png Hawkins does a massive job as the final man for i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/boi.png Drapac and shoots past, and the home team still has the most intact train with arguably the best leadout in i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/azt.png Haedo.
i1050.photobucket.com/albums/s408/Cio1993/Juarez/Stage%201/PCM0010_zps81f6f896.jpg

We didn't reach the flamme rouge yet, but i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/boi.png Drapac already has to go. He lost the headstart over i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/azt.png Haedo+i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/azt.png Farrar though, and the latter hopes to not lose ground and stay fresh long enough to win today. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/bon.png Manarelli finally appears as well.
On the other side of the road, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/onc.png Cano still does not give up while i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/tas.png Meenhorst and not i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/tas.png Rowe is the rider in green storming past for the moment. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/alp.png Forero tries to stay with him.
i1050.photobucket.com/albums/s408/Cio1993/Juarez/Stage%201/PCM0011_zpsd4690e1f.jpg

As expected, sprinters all over the place and tightly packed as we enter the last 500 metres. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/boi.png Drapac still looks comfortable as i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/azt.png Farrar tries to come past but struggles to accelerate further. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/alp.png Forero uses i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/tas.png Meenhorst like his team mate but has some work ahead of him just like i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/onc.png Guillen beside him with i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/rse.png Matthews right behind (i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/rse.png Sutton is the better positioned Risa rider on the left).
i1050.photobucket.com/albums/s408/Cio1993/Juarez/Stage%201/PCM0012_zpscead47c4.jpg

It's bunched up behind the Aussie who looks victorious today.
i1050.photobucket.com/albums/s408/Cio1993/Juarez/Stage%201/PCM0013_zps23f544fe.jpg

And indeed i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/boi.png Drapac takes the stage! i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/rse.png Matthews surges past everyone late to take second and white, while i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/onc.png Guillen cannot complain after his shaky train ride to round out the podium.
i1050.photobucket.com/albums/s408/Cio1993/Juarez/Stage%201/PCM0014_zps8ad25b8d.jpg

Notable surprises today are i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/cdb.png Rasmussen (5th) and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/tas.png Rowe (15th).
