Stage 2: Monaco - Brignoles 187km
One for the sprinters

For the second stage from Monaco to Brignoles, the pack will again ride a lengthy stretch of the Formula 1 Grand Prix route and take in its legendary sites: la Rascasse, Sainte-Dévote and the Casino, where the official starting ceremony will take place. Then the riders will then leave the Principality eastwards, along the Mediterranean.

The 182km-route is not mountainous, but the rugged terrain could make this a nervous stage. The stage finish into Brignoles is on the same route as the 2007 Paris-Nice stage to Cannes, only backwards. A bunch sprint finish is likely, but some bumps on the road to the finish could provide a surprise...

Do anyone think that Cavendish will hold on? It might be hard if teams like Quickstep etc. notches the speed up...

My bet is Hushovd (because I am biased) or Freire Pfft

Cavendish.
No problem that little lump at the end is with 20km to go, an on form cavendish can get over that, no problem.

Close call between Hushovd, Cavendish and Freire..
I still think Freire will win..

We should probably have the stages in a single thread unless we want to have 21 dying threads through the course of the 3 weeks.

As something new this year, we (or you, if you're faster than us Wink) will be making one thread for each stage of the Tour. Otherwise, we'll end up with a thread consisting of hundreds of pages, and that's not too good for the server running this site.

If you make one of these threads, we'd prefer if you kept it updated with:
1. Stage Profile
2. Stage Description (if possible)
3. Streaming Links

The last thing is important. During a stage, there's a lot of people who ask for websites on the internet where they can watch the stage live. Hopefully, they'll now just turn to page 1, the opening post, and click. So, please keep your post updated when you or someone else find a stream.

I get bored with those gigantic threads like Giro's one... I like this new style it has a much more fresh look and avoids those long and idiotic discussions that lead nowhere. Moreover you have all the info in the first post, what more can yoou ask for?

well it is almost a page so far and we haven't started the stage, haven't spent a page insulting Astanan spammers etc. so I am sure we will find a way to make the thread worth it.

They were the best cycling team last year and are at the moment Frown

I'd rather watch Columbia going for every single stage no matter how small and insignificant it is, rather than watching Astana only going for the GC Wink
