Having subjected themselves to a torture in the heights of the Pyrénées, today offers a momentary respite to the overall favourites. Instead we wind our way through some serene Occitan landscapes to the west of Toulouse. There is no threat of a crosswind, so the peloton can relax, and long stretches of flat parcours, so there shouldn't be any issues with the breakaway. Instead this one looks set to finish in a mass sprint. The breakaway is formed without much difficulty; significantly, there aren't any of our mountain contenders involved. Instead it is formed by three solo riders in pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/bbc.png Andrea PICCOLO, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/t3a.png Ricardo DELGADO GONZALES and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/ino.png Prasetyo FIRDAUS; as well as two groups: pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/nfz.png Riley PICKRELL and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/nfz.png Willhelm WALLINDER being outnumbered by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/min.png Bryan Raul OBANDO, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/min.png Enzo PALENI and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/min.png Fausto Agustin GOMEZ.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/Others/Avenir/S7/01.jpg

The organisers accurately predicted that this one would be something of a snooze fest and opted to only start the live television coverage in the closing few kilometres. Once the breakaway was decided, today's classified climbs ceased to have any importance. Having picked up the most points with 12, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/nfz.png Riley PICKRELL hasn't even cracked the Top 10 in the mountain classification. Even the fact that the catch was made within the final 10 kilometres wasn't a cause for any concern, the peloton was just playing with its food. There is only one important thing to know - we are 2½ kilometres from the finish and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/brc.png Jean Eric HABIMANA has just pulled off the front, exposing pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/brc.png Jago WILLEMS to the wind. He will need all his wits to navigate this one.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/Others/Avenir/S7/02.jpg

Well, for the longest time nobody wanted to maje a move, for rather obvious reasons. That means that we once again come in to the sprint freewheeling. This time, however, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/brc.png WILLEMS is not one of the first to accelerate. Instead that honour goes to pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/ldl.png Sarris EVANGELOS, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/eko.png Laurence PITHIE and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/twm.png Albin STALBERG. Positioned well on the outside is pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/mcy.png Kevin GRANADOS. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/brc.png WILLEMS does follow the momentum after a moments delay, with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/zal.png Olav KOOIJ now sat firmly on his shoulder.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/Others/Avenir/S7/03.jpg

All it took was a bit of time and the capabilities of the stronger riders started to shine through. Nobody ought to doubt why pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/brc.png WILLEMS and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/zal.png KOOIJ were named as favourites for the sprints. They are moving past the others with raw power. The sight has caused all of our early movers to abandon all hope; they have all been forced to sit up. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/jur.png Hugo PAGE will be annoyed to have been denied another opportunity at victory, having been boxed in. Or not? It seems that pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/brc.png WILLEMS doesn't have the legs! He hasn't been able to break pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/zal.png KOOIJ and has, instead, broken himself. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/zal.png KOOIJ will win it, but pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/jur.png PAGE has space to move forwards now. He'll definitely be on the podium, but can he snag second? Can he? Oh, it's too close to call! They'll be sending that one to the adjudicators for sure. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/zal.png KOOIJ finally sorts himself out to take a belated stage victory with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/jur.png PAGE and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/brc.png WILLEMS joining him on the podium, I'm just not sure in what order.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/Others/Avenir/S7/04.jpg

Aside from a few straggling lesser équipiers, there weren't any time gaps awarded on this stage. That means no movement in the general classification; not that the fans will be complaining, what with the final two stages that are to come. Similarly, the mountains remain the domain of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/snz.png Carlos RODRIGUEZ. We will have to wait for the final day before we know who will take out that competition. The points classification on the other hand? Well, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/brc.png WILLEMS has all but won it. He extended his lead over pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/snz.png Quinn SIMMONS to 29 points; his only realistic challenger - pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/lph.png Leo HAYTER - will need to win the next two stages if he wants to take the classification. Excellent work from the young Belgian, despite today's minor slipup.
