Tour de l'Avenir
2.U23Stages: | | Pts | KoM | 01. | Charenton-Le-Pont - Vincennes (6.1 km) | 25 |

It is a new route facing the youngest riders in the MGUCI peloton. One which will see them garnering plenty of flight time, in addition to a few extra TT kilometres. After a Parisian prologue they are going to ride south towards the Massif Central, only to fly north overnight in order to once again ride south from the outskirts of the Île-de-France. They then have a single day to tackle the Massif Central before a trip to Walloon hills. The next few days start in the Pyrénées and then slowly wind their way north, before a flight east to finish the race in the Schwarzwald.

First up we ought to take a look at the overall competition. A number of very interesting names to look at this year. We wouldn't do badly if we were to start with KARATSIVIS. Greece seems to produce a plethora of talents - as shown by the success of ELCO - ABEA - but they have never managed to secure any palmarès in the MGUCI's premier U23 competition. KARATSIVIS was the highest-placed rider returning from last year's edition; maybe a year of development is enough for him to jump from the Top 10 to the Top 1?
He will face stiff competition in the form of RODRIGUEZ and KRASTS, both of whom are riders of a very similar profile to KARATSIVIS. KRASTS is also the next big thing for a national project, whereas RODRIGUEZ has the potential to be the next big thing in the entire peloton. Each of them are more than capable of tackling the mountains, aren't incompetent on the TT bike, and have a little bit of punch.
The same can't be said of the next three favourites. HAYTER lacks the punchiness to match his competitors accelerations, but that didn't stop him making it on to the podium at the U23 Worlds RR as a freshman. He has a lesser copycat in the form of VAUQUELIN, who will also suffer from his team's split focus. VAN EETVELT has the opposite issue: he has punch, which he will need desperately in order to make up for the time he loses in the timetrials.

The points jersey is not traditionally the terrain of the sprinters, at least as far as l'Avenir is concerned. That was the case, at least, until Biniam GIRMAY came storming through last year with four stage victories. PITHIE might be looking to fill that same niche, but his own dominance may have to wait until next year. That is because there are two rather powerful pure sprinters present in the form of WILLEMS and KOOIJ. It is quite possible that it will be just the two of them battling it out; although, with no real sprint trains present, maybe there will be just enough chaos for it to be anyone's game.

It is hard to look past BLUM when talking about favourites for the TTs. He scored Top 10s in the U23 Worlds ITT and l'Avenir prologue last season, and has only grown more powerful with time. He will face stiff competition from MOUTSIOS, who was also in the l'Avenir Top 10, and HESSMANN, who made the Top 15 at U23 Worlds. Not included on this list is HAYTER, who will have the added motivation of his fight for the overall competition.

Would be great to see Rodriguez win here! He has a big future and they all win this race!
Great preview and good luck everyone!

Excited to be joining the Minions for this youthful ride. Looks like our team should have some freedom for breakaways as we won't have a clear favorite for any stage. Looking forward to seeing our guys team up and of course to watch the GC battle up front.

First time we've had a top favourite for Avenir, exciting! Hoping the hills don't play out too rough so that Hayter doesn't lose time. Also interested to see if Alben and FFB can sneak in some results on their respective terrains!

We have a full team here but no rider that can produce results anywhere, so mainly just here to follow the action and spot our jersey in the occasional breakaway!

Thanks for the preview! Should be a fun race to follow.
For those who - like me - like to have the actual profile pic and not just the stats, I guess it should be this one:
Would be amazing to see Blum taking the win in the prologue and getting the first yellow jersey, whereas the longer TT will likely be too tough for him with the final ascent.
Page will hopefully be competitive in the sprints, even though he sadly is clearly a level below the Top 3. Was hoping for him to be among the top sprinters of 2001, but it looks like it's not just Kooij who's clearly stronger than him (and future world class obviously), but 2 others as well. At least Page has the 2nd best acceleration here, maybe that could help - and with Christen, he should have a decent lead-out at this level.
GC-wise, it's all about Tiberi I guess, who just misses out on the list of GC contenders. A Top 10 should be achievable, though, and it'd be a nice result.
So it's one leader each of UBS, Jura and Sauber, good balance there
Overall, the Hautacam climb looks really massive, and if Hayter can play out his climbing superiority there, he could make up his lack of punch against the likes of Rordiguez and Krasts. LvE should be nice to follow as well, but he should have no chance to claim the GC with 61TT.
Good luck to all, have fun

Thanks for the preview. Look forward to the reports.
We dont have a GC guy here really but a lot of guys who might wanna try in a breakaway.
Also i look forward to see what Stalberg can do when he is the main sprinter.
The first stage/prologue should be a good fit for Heinrich, so lets see if he get show what he is capapble off there.

I need to make sure to not look for orange jerseys if I wanna spot my two guys in the reports

Missed out last year because we had no talents, this year we field more than half a team
No expectations, we'll see what happens

Sad Arenas never got picked up, but to be fair he is useless. That means we only have Lvl. 1 Andresen in this year. Maybe he'll show in a break. After Skjelmose winning last year, only good vibes can come from this race.
Thanks for the preview!

I love l’Avenir and often sign a couple of riders for the sole purpose of being somewhat relevant in this race. This season is actually with green riders which is very nice!
Karatsivis on paper with a solid shot of a top 5, maybe even a podium if all goes Well. I do spot a couple of riders better than him. We Will never get a better shot at getting a greek rider on the podium though!

Fisher Black the only rider in a team of eight but still having our team name in there shows how much faith Abhishek has in him. Maybe he can do for Hayter what irl WVA does for Vingegaard/Yates.
Probably not though But a nice prologue result might be possible, although 6km might be just too long for him.
Malacarne and Ben Ameur with one last dance for Specialized and Bralirwa, hope they can make their loaning in teams proud one more time. Malacarne might have some breakaway chances, whereas Ben Ameur is a pure domestique for one of the favourites in Van Eetvelt.
For me this Avenir definitely is a bit special, as it's with the riders of the two years where I was a part of the talent making team. Good luck to everyone!

First time in years we can't send a team here. It seems our promotion push went too far and we missed out on talents. So there can only be one option for us this offseason (I mean aside from getting rid of Bonifazio), we sign all the talents we can get before we go back down to the PCT.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Thanks lief for the preview!
Our riders are being spread out over a couple of teams. If we get some kind of result (stage or break), I would be happy

Thanks for the preview and the first report, lief!
Vauquelin with a good start here as best of the GC riders in the prologue (and even with a special mention, we don't have that often in TT reports). Let's hope he'll be able to compete for a top 5.
And finally congrats to Laurens / D2B for starting the race with a win!
