ICL21 - Race Discussion

Lutz Berg you legend! Already a win in the Roubaix Velodrome in the CV Grin

Not great from Vanmarcke so far. Struggling even in C1.

Juris Eisaks repaying his training with a second win. Hope he can inspire the rest of his Renault teammates.

Daniil Detenyshev's 4th place in Paris - Roubaix U23 is a fantastic result for a 20 year old!

Wrapping it up March today. Next week will be a bit slower as I have a marathon race on the weekend and also need do some more races for May to increase the backlog.

Spoiler
If I saw it rigt, GVK is the first rider to have won all big cobble races - Omloop, E3, Gent, Roubaix and Ronde, and even Dwars. Congratulations to making history, Ollfardh!

Huge finish to March for us! When we we sent several big guns to Criterium International, we knew they all needed to execute to justify those race days. Mullen did his job perfectly with the stage win, and Boily was perfect throughout. Winning the mountain stage is unexpected and amazing, and of course even better to win the GC. His time trialing comes up clutch again, as did his attentiveness on stage 1 to make that first group.

Exciting race in Gent Wevelgem too! 8th for Langlois is good considering the stacked startlist. Going into the final few km's I really thought he had a shot at the podium, but he was positioned too far back and kept having to work his way around cracked riders,w hich led to an early sprint. Absolutely insane wind all day too, so that didn't help.

Looking at the rankings, I can't be disappointed with what we've done so far. It doesn't feel like we've actually raced that much, but we're executing at an awesome rate - an unsustainable rate, for sure, but one I love to see. 2nd best CT team in WT rankings and Prestige, 5th in CT. All works for me. Plus Langlois might actually place decently in the World Cup. We'll ignore the fact that my U23 team hasn't scored a point yet. Doesn't matter.

Thanks for the results and videos Shonak, and good luck with your marathon! Smile

Should I call Criterium International funny or just ridiculous? Don't know... No clue what happened to Chamorro there, he must've been riding with one leg only ^^ No way he should lose 3'30 to Boily or Ospina. Feels really random...
At least Nogueira somewhat salvaged the race by winning the KoM and taking 9th overall, but still, 3 wasted RDs for Chamorro.

At least Romero Martinez showed up in DdV, 8th is a good result for him. Gorriarán taking 7th in U23 P-R is nice as well Smile

The standings still don't look great for us, but at least our Tachira participation makes us the highest scoring CT team in WT so far. Moving up to 7th in the prestige rankings (among the CT teams obviously) is good, although I was definitely hoping for more points in Criterium International. Let's see where we'll end up - hopefully Chamorro can step up in CT races a bit.

Good team performance in CritInt. Jumps us up nicely in the rankings

Please can some CT teams start racing WT races so we can move out of the promotion spots while still competing in our beloved CT rankings please and thank you

Nice podium from Argiro in CritInt and enjoying leading the CT rankings Grin But yeah, sure we'll fall off and other CT teams will come up in WT races especially, but worrying to be promoting as of now Sad

Bit sad to only be 2nd in Roubaix Espoirs for Astier but it's ok Pfft

We drop to 14th in a month that included multiple cobbled classics plus MSR, theoretically a strong month. Not looking good.

It would be nice if Senechal could actually do well in a a small group sprint on occasion. So far 3 out of 4 in Dwars, 10 out of 11 in E3 and 16 out of 26 in Omloop. OK he loses to the guys who are better than him but he also loses to the guys who are the same and the guys who are worse than him. Vanmarcke who is noticeably worse outsprinted him in both Omloop and E3. Not sure if it is bad luck or because he uses too much energy trying to get separation earlier.

Then how he manages to finish outside the top 50 in MSR and over 4 minutes behind in Gent Wevelgem is beyond me.

Of course I have only myself to blame, the writing was on the wall from last year that he exists in some kind of Bermuda Triangle of PCM15 badness. And I threw a bunch of money at him anyway.

Thanks for the pace Shonak, lets hope Senechal is saving all his luck for Paris Roubaix, the one race where he really ought to have a chance.

@Shonak: Wow, a marathon! Good luck!

Two more good results for Sagan to wrap up March. I certainly wish it had been Dibben instead of Howard pulling the group in Gent-Wevelgem, but three riders in the top 14 is pretty impressive.

Sagan is still without a win and might well lose the World Cup jersey, but so far he scored more WT points than last season, and that season was amazing.

Grupo Argos already with a frightening lead in the teams ranking.

Vanmarcke much better in Omloop with 5th but back struggling again in GW, which is a sprinter favoured cobbles races tbh. Consistent Top 10s is all I ask from hum really.

Thanks for the continued coverage Shonak and all the best for the marathon!

I'm very happy with Komisarek results in march. Glad to see him leading in World Cup and having a decent lead. We all tho know it's one race where he isn't scoring or finishes far from podium and all that lead is gone. Looking forward to next WC races.

And good luck Shonak in marathon mate!

Welter was disappointed to not go for U23 victories this season when we chose Lecomte, but the Luxembourgian showed the world he can already compete at the highest level Grin Winning the KoM in Paris - Nice is great for him and the team, with a decent eighth and tenth place from Niemi as well.

Butenko sixth in Paris - Roubaix U23 is not amazing, but also not the worst, as he definitely likes some hills on the parcours opposed to a pure flat cobbled race. Congratulations to our friends from Deutsche Bahn over there Smile

Then great to see Hoelgaard doing so well in the Criterium International with a stage win and a day in yellow, with Hovland and a decent second place in the time trial a day after. Former rider Nerz finishing second in GC is nice to see as well.

Thanks for the Crit video Shonak. Really was awesome to see Boily play it so perfectly there. Definitely a weird day of form for riders who both over and underperformed though. Luckily for the lattter it was only 3 race days.

Love the two wins for Appo in South Africa! And the run in white for Maini of the dev team. Hope Peiffer can do well here on GC, we've won the other two CTGTs I believe but never even podiumed here!

Phinney bad positioned from Oude Kwaremont till the last km, 4th is quite a miracle looking where he started to sprint. The podium was more than possible
