Tour of Norway - Stage 4
Tour of Norway

Stage 4

Stage Profile

The first of two hilly stages, which gives the punchers an opportunity to claw back some time lost on the time-triallists. Phinney is the current GC leader and his puncher skills are nothing to be scoffed at. Today's stage isn't the hardest, so he'll fancy his chances to stay in the lead. The likes of Bobridge and Izagirre will perhaps be most looking forward to this stage, to try to move up the standings. And one must wonder what the likes of Hagen, Mohoric, Betancourt and more can conjure up to be able to get themselves back into GC reckoning.

Ten riders get away into the break:

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/afk.png Hagen
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/afk.png Bystrom
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/kng.png Sirironnachai
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/aeg.png Vliegen
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/kmm.png Scheit
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/vvg.png Omarsson
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/des.png Jones
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/nca.png Medvedev
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/afk.png Bernaudeau
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/vlv.png Haugard

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/afk.png Hagen is looking to make amends for his race so far. He joins the break standing at 6'50" behind Phinney in the GC. Will this help his cause? He has two teammates with him in pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/afk.png Bystrom and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/afk.png Bernaudeau, the former being the joint leader of the KOM standings too. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/afk.png Air France look to be putting all of their eggs in this breakaway basket!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/kng.png Sirironnachai wins the first KOM sprint ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/des.png Jones and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/kmm.png Scheit.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/des.png Jones is first past the first intermediate sprint. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/aeg.png Vliegen and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/kmm.png Scheit follow him through.

120 kilometers to go for the peloton. They currently trail by 5'14" but the deficit was over 7 minutes at one point. They have picked up the pace for sure recently. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/bnm.png Wohler has been doing almost all of the work over the past 20 kilometers.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/vvg.png Omarsson wins the second KOM sprint with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/kng.png Sirironnachai in 2nd and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/afk.png Hagen in 3rd. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/kng.png Sirironnachai takes the lead in the KOM standings as a result.

The peloton have reduced the gap to 2'13".

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/afk.png Bystrom has been dropped for good, so he won't be in the contest for the KOM on this stage at least.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/afk.png Bystrom is caught a few kilometers later.

With 75 kilometers remaining, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/fes.png Vlatos (GC 4th), pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/kng.png Van Winden (GC 12th) and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/grm.png Korsaeth (GC 14th) have been dropped.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/vlv.png Campenaerts (GC 10th) is further behind.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/vvg.png Omarsson wins the third KOM sprint and moves up to 2nd in the standings. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/kmm.png Scheit and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/afk.png Hagen are 2nd and 3rd respectively.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/vlv.png Haugard has been dropped from the break.

49 riders have been dropped from the peloton in the last few kilometers in a number of groups. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/vvg.png Gautier is the only big name dropped so far.

Still pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/bnm.png Bennelong control the peloton as we near the 50 kilometer to go mark. The gap to the break has increased though.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/vlv.png Haugard has been caught.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/afk.png Bernaudeau is the next to lose contact with the break.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/des.png Jones wins the fourth KOM sprint ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/kng.png Sirironnachai and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/aeg.png Vliegen.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/kng.png Sirironnachai attacks with 34 kilometers remaining. The resulting chase from the break drops pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/nca.png Medvedev, who cannot get back.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/kng.png Sirironnachai is caught a kilometer later.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/afk.png Bernaudeau is caught by the pack.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/bnm.png Bennelong has run out of domestiques it seems! That doesn't look like too smart a strategy now, does it? pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/grm.png Cosnefroy has taken over at the front for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/grm.png Grieg. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/pol.png Polar and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/iso.png Isostar also have bodies near the front.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/nca.png Dyrnes, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/kmm.png Moazemi, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/nca.png Kump, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/anh.png Navardauskas (GC 11th) and Zoidl (GC 28th) are dropped now. 22 kilometers remain.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/kng.png Sirironnachai attacks with 15 kilometers to go. The break leads by 2'24"

The 81 rider peloton catches pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/nca.png Medvedev.

10 kilometers left. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/grm.png Grieg, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/pum.png Puma and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/iso.png Isostar are at the front of the pack. They trail the break by 2'9".

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/kng.png Sirironnachai is caught and the five remaining breakaway riders are together.

The break starts the climb to the finish. 6 kilometers remain. They lead by 1'43".

5 kilometers left for the peloton. They have brought the gap down to 1'10". pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/pum.png Puma and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/akm.png Aker are at the front now.

3 kilometers to go for the break who have pulled out the advantage to 1'24".

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/afk.png Hagen attacks!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/kng.png Viviani (GC 17th) is the latest to be dropped from the pack.

One pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/kng.png King Power rider is replaced by another in the pack as pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/kng.png Sirironnachai's day in the break comes to an end.

The others continue to chase pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/afk.png Hagen just ahead of the pack. They trail pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/afk.png Hagen by 26 seconds and lead the peloton by 21 seconds.

Four riders from the break are caught under the Flamme Rouge.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/iso.png Mohoric, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gen.png Ludvigsson (GC 32nd) and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/akm.png Vangstad (GC 15th) are dropped.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gen.png Rosskopf (GC 22nd) and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/adp.png Borisavljevic (GC 31st) are further back.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/afk.png Hagen has 600 meters to go and has extended his lead to 49 seconds.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/iso.png Phinney attacks from the pack and has a gap. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/bnm.png Bobridge and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/akm.png Kwiatkowski lead the chase from the pack.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/afk.png Hagen wins! That's one way to forget the previous disappointments of this race.

Behind, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/iso.png Phinney leads the chase group of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/akm.png Kwiatkowski, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/bnm.png Bobridge, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/map.png Buchmann, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/pol.png Izagirre, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gzl.png Kangert and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/aeg.png De Bie.
