Giro d'Italia - Discussion
Congrats ember to the GC!

It was an interesting race to follow with Malecki leading long way in to the race, the race ended good for us with decent 2 GC spots and most the KoM jersey along with two stage wins.

Amazing work with reports fabianski!
This was the best piece of reporting I've ever whitnessed on a GT, awesome work. We leave with good feelings despite a terrible last week almost making up in a bad way for our great race before.

I also still want to thank you for the great quality of the reports. It was great to follow the race, even though it was one of the most frustrating ones for me in my few years in the MG.
I feel like I did everything right here from a managerial perspective with selecting the perfect GT for Reis to attend and backing him with almost my best TTT team I could bring. The TTT part played out perfectly but everything that came after was basically just a big disappointment. I agree with knockout that Reis is a rider that a higher variance in the results can be expected, but 24th, especially with where he was after two weeks, is just not acceptable from the game. It was nice to see him in the break in the last mountain stage, where he could've at least made up a little bit for all this, but here he couldn't even hang on to Carapaz who is worse in almost every stat. It's just ridiculous. I know how it is with a low acceleration GC rider after having Denifl for a few years, who also had frustrating results at times but never anything like this. In long stage races he was a bank. Rarely won a stage but always around the other similar strong climbers. Reis now got only 56 points out of this entire race. 56 points in 21 race days after I paid 1.6 million for him. Looking at the result list, it's really infuriating to see some of the riders that are ahead of him. Of course starting with Shikai who is basically the same rider in 6th, then there are some other riders that were available during transfers and changed teams for less than Reis like Chiarello and Carapaz and also Grieg getting two riders ahead of my top GC rider, after their tactic for the season is not caring about GCs hurts. I don't want to be a sore looser but sometimes I can't help it. Pfft
All in all it's just very frustrating to be in deep relegation struggles after this giro where I felt I did everything perfect as a manager with my team selection. The mistake probably was going for a rider like Reis in the first place, but I never thought he could be this bad. After Denifl, I thought that was a very manageable risk. The GC and all the breakaway wins for bottom half table teams were just very unlucky for me in the end. However it was nice to end with a small high with Hsu getting his GT stage podium in the end and after the TTT win, the impact on the rankings probably won't be as catastrophic as it feels right now. Still more than half the season to go where my team can strike back and also Reis has two more chances to redeem himself at the Vuelta and TdS.
Sympathies also to matt, who had a similarly bad showing by his leader and congrats to everyone happy with their giro!
Can't really complain with how the race went for us here in our first "proper" Grand Tour with the team we sent. A stage win and a handful of other respectable stage results were great to see and the 13th overall from Kennaugh was so fun to see after he went in the breaks in every mountain stage in the last week.

It was certainly a great GT to read even though others certainly had their frustrations which were a little justified, I just hope the Vuelta and Tour aren't just like this! Smile

Giro d'Italia Scoring

Thanks to Fabianski for the quick and detailled coverage as also the very fast ranking calculation, here the Giro d'Italia scoring.

Well, not a lot of times the highest scoring team isn`t the GC winner, though this year with Malecki being one of the dominant riders for the full 3 weeks, fair to say, Gazelle dominated the Giro scoring here with a team lineup, you surely wouldn`t expect them to do so. From relegation zone far up to top5 by a quick calculation with only the Giro included. Surely also the MG record stat wise as I doubt there ever was a 71 climber in the top10 of any MG GT before or probably not even in top25. Just looking and comparing stats, I guess van der Poel just needs an update of +2 in mountain and should be a much better version of Malecki next year. So I need to find out how to form a team around him I guess. Pfft

Aker as GC winner with Taaramae following with quite a gap in 2nd ahead of couple of teams that did similarly well such as Puma around Demare, Evonik with an incredible scoring as well with an average GT lineup, Generali (who actually underscored due to Spilak`s failure), Tinkoff around Kritskiy doing expected things but also Volvo due to the aggressive break joining and KoM win with Carapaz and Isostar due to some nice break results, in especially in the first race half.

Moser, Bennelong or ISA follow a bit behind. Some stage results by Anacona or Contreras, decent to very good GC performances by Haig or Barguil or early KoM points by Vakoc led them ahead of the following teams.

Mid table teams area started by Aegon, mainly due to the double stage win by van der Poel, EA Vesuvio (who underperformed with Schleck I guess but still got Wirtgen and Kirsch to carry them a bit) and King Power.

All the remaining teams kind of had not a good line up here and no big expectations or underperformed such as e.g. Festina or eBuddy I`d say. First were unlucky that Bongiorno must have been right in between too good for a break and too weak for staying with the best and this way dropped quite a bit behind weaker riders that joined the breaks, e.g. Chiarello or Nesset while eBuddy potentially had too many terrains to cover with Boswell, Aru and Van Poppel and unfortunately for them had none of them really deliver.

Grieg actually had Nesset surprisisingly consistent and lucky in the 3rd week to up their points scored, Rakuten had a one man show of Shikai, who though was doing pretty well.

van der Poel really rescued me here as otherwise the points scored would be one of the weakest of all teams. Was not expecting a lot of points from GTs this year, but with a lineup of 79, 78, 77, 76, 75 I had expected to get points from mountain breakaways the most, which unfortunately didn`t work out really well. So Velits/Valls weren`t going for the KoM and missed to score a bit better in comparison to riders such as Chiarello, Nesset, Anacona they scored quite less.

Not ideal to be passed by couple teams in the full rankings as relegation is becoming more and more a big danger. Can only hope that De Bie is waking up in the Ardennes as his points are much needed.
Thanks for the update. Rather disappointing scoring due to the lack of stage results and stuff. Well. It could have been worse!
Ouch. Malecki alone scoring more than double than my team.
As expected this does not look very well for my team, I was outscored by many teams that shouldn't have according to the lineup. ~150-200 points are missing from what it should've been but doesn't matter now, I'm looking forward to the Ardennes where Lutsenko can gain back some of these points!
Thanks for the update! Smile
Wow, I didn't realise Malecki had scored this much, but it does make sense. The fact we're 5th in scoring regardless of the disappointment makes me wonder what could have been point-wise really, very annoying. Thanks for the update!

Just to be a bit up from the bottom is good news for us. Silly to see how many points Malecki managed to take.
Thanks a lot for that! Excellent scoring for Evonik - even a bit better than what i thought i might have scored without actually calculating it. Also we did well in comparison to most of our potential ranking rivals: Somehow we outscored Generali, we lost close to nothing to Puma despite Demare racing here, gained massively on Festina and outscored Isostar slightly. Only Gazelle massively outscored us which puts them back in the title race if Madrazo returns to 2019 form.

Cant wait to see Maleckis wage next year Pfft
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!
And To All Who Organize Something On Daily As Well!

Looking at the team we sent it hurts like hell to be second to last. An outsider top 10 GC rider with good Stage hunting abilities, a top 5-10 sprinter, a top 5-10 puncheur and decent U25 card alongside 5 73-75MO riders for breaks.

Carapaz outscored the entitet team. Malecki around 4 times as much, despite the fact that he (on paper) would have been our weakest rider in the race.

Damn. Two stage wins and we still are that low. I guess not having anyone really go for the GC here really dragged us down.
Wow thats a lot worse than I was expecting. I thought we'd atleast be in the top half considering we had 6th in the GC and a stage win.
This is even better than expected Grin Hope this truly turns our season around and isn't just an isolated stroke of luck.
Having the winner of a Grand Tour and not breaking 1000 points as a team could be a first, at least from memory, with this points system. We still got the GC win, but compared to last year's Vuelta, where Taaramäe won several stages early and held the jersey for many stages, we scored less than I hoped. Actually about 750 points less in direct comparison to that Vuelta, which sounds like a lot. Fingers crossed they won't play too big a part when the final October races come Pfft

Thank you for the points update, Fabianski and roturn! Looking forward to see the bigger picture and the next complete rankings update Smile
Very nice seeing us scoring 7th most of all teams in a race where Alarcon, Stallaert or Ahlstrand is not racing. Grin
