The fastest sprinter
RoronoaZoro
Well, let's jump to the conclusion. Who is/was the best sprinter in the world? and How many km/h he can/could go? I'm really curious about this. Thank you guys Grin

- Freire when the course has been hard, hilly

- Petacchi when the sprint is very organized.

- McEwen when it's disorganized or downright dangerous (90º turns, etc.)

- Boonen when the speed is already very high when starting the sprint

- Hushovd into a headwind or when forced to go from a LOOOONG way out.

- me when the last bus is about to leave and I'm running late.

if you're just thinking about top speed, Petacchi once did 64km/h in a Giro stage. I think that's the highest.
McEwen and Freire are not so much about top speed but they have a mighty initial kick (read: acceleration). especially Freire.

of course this will all be a moot point once the 2008 summer olympics end and Theo Bos turns to road cycling Wink

Don't you think it will take Bos some time to adjust to road racing and gain the stamina needed?

of course, but with Freire's experience, and the structure of Rabobank, I'm sure he'll learn well. start by winning smaller races where the pace isn't high at all.

Bennati? don't think Forster can. the speed of a tour stage is way too high for him to make it to the end in good condition.

Yes, but he seems to have lost the little extra speed needed to win, in the proces.

You are right about that...riding in trek..is something different that you need to go 200km. and then you sprint and there are also damn hills and stuff wich just kills your legsSmile

Exactly. Is it likely that the same would happen to Bos? Or is he so fast, that it wont matter (don't know much about just how good he is. I'm not really in to track riding).

ever realised that in track sprints winning by a bikes length is total domination?

Bos is absolutly dominating in trek..he's gonna join Rabo after Peking olympics. Pre contract has already signed.

Great video issoisso. Pure domination!! How about Alex Rasmussen?? How do you guys reckon(?!) his chances of making it on the top level. He was once a world champion in scratch. Whatever that is.

issoisso
I have no idea if he can make it. you can never in advance judge how good someone's going to be.

this is the example I like to give: at this point in his career, there is no guarantee Boonen is going to be a legend. remember Vandenbroucke?

you can only retroactively analyse it.

as for scratch race, those that win it are usually either great time triallists or decent TT guys who can sprint well (like Rasmussen)

I know. It's never certain. I just wanted an opinion of what you think.

top speeds at sprints are above 70-75 kmph, (btw Pettachi has special frame for that, because classic frame was to screw due to his power and speed) 0nce at some spring classic (dunno the name Sad ) i saw on a perfect surface on flat some riders wants to shred the peloton 20key from finish and speed of the first rider was 70kmph at that moment and thats f*kin incredible

I feel oligated to say Cavendish Grin

Actually no, if we're including track riders then Chris Hoy for sure.
