Cancel the whole stage and do a TT Val d'Isere-Tignes tomorrow morning. Thats what I would have done

Yeh but then all the riders would be. Angry cause they put all the effort into today (well what they raced at least). Like you just can’t really win with this situation. Not a lot the organisers can do

Angry at what? Kruijswijk was waiting for Tignes he had De Plus with him. Bernal would have paid for this effort on the flat part in Val d'Isere unless hes superhuman with marginal gains. This is super unfair for TJV

You gave me an idea. Given that tomorrows stage is so short, they can do a split stage like this:
Stage 20a Col d'Iseran-Tignes ITT
Stage 20b the stage to Val Thorens

They would need to count the times from Iseran in this case. And it would be the fairest solution.

Mmm this is true...Bernal is an alright TT rider though. I mean honestly you just never know! It would’ve been such an exciting finale to the stage!!

So...did the field actually finish the climb? The ENTIRE field including grupetto?

I cant see how they can get away WITHOUT nullifying the entire stage.

Very good point. How would you even take times of guys who hadn't crossed the top? Likely there were a few that were even in minor GC places from 15-30.

Why? What I'm suggesting is that they should count the times from the top of Iseran from today then do a split stage tomorrow.

Isn't the very basic rule of the Tour that every rider has to ride every km? If so, they indeed can't get away without nullyfying the stage. And what about the time limit? If they place the finish on top of the Iseran, according to official calculations, some may get a DNF. Also i find it quite strange to not award the stage to Bernal while giving him the jersey lol

The fact that bulldozers were already working on it tell much on the bad timing of organizers, today stage was a total mess, but with current situation, keeping Iseran time for everyone is the only logical thing to do imo

This. Like it's unfair to give him the stage since at the time they passed it they didn't know that will be the end but it's totally cool to have the time gaps from that point decide the GC of the TdF.

No, the only logical thing to do is to nullify the entire stage.

You only shorten a race if you have announced it beforehand. Shortening it ex post facto is just amateurish. Especially if you didnt actually end the race on the top.

The ASO may CLAIM that the top of the pass was the finish...but unless they waited for the grupetto to finish there...then they acted as though the stage was fully nullified.

That's no fair, you can't ignore the fact that Bernal got 2 minutes to Yellow Jersey...surely They had to announce it before, but actually there were about 90 kms of race done with crucial follow ups

His time gap was a function of the believed race remaining. It would not have survived the descent and following climb.

But that's beside the point.

Is the Col de l'Isard the finish? Did everyone make it to the top?

Because if they didnt...then the entire stage was nullified.

Yeah there's no way TJV stand for this. I get that it would be unfair to Bernal to nullify, but even if (and that wasn't certain) Egan doesn't get caught, he would be wasting so much more energy than SK/Buchmann/Thomas riding alone through the valley and to the finish line, and that would change things a lot for tomorrow. Now he literally gets a minute "handed" to him by the comissaires without additional energy waste. If this stands this TDF won't feel right to anybody, including Bernal...

df_Trek
imo if this was the decision, they waited for everyone reaching it

He wasn't alone. He had Yates with him.

That's correct, and there's a pretty big chance Yates would have worked with him for the stage. But if we think like that, so could Nibali, Urán et al work with Steven K and Buchmann, or even Alaphillipe if he somehow caught up. Egan was outnumbered one way or another. Don't get me wrong, I think Egan deserves to be in Yellow, but that result is really unfair to the guys behind him...

Wintry percipitation doesn't seem to favour Kruijswijk...

- *even deeper sigh* Well... "On the first occasion i crashed into a snow wall and three years later it started hailing"

God is clearly an Ineos fan and the UCI pissed him of yesterday by not reinstating Rowe

Seriously though, I feel sorry for Bernal. He is clearly the strongest and probably would have won the yellow jersey anyway. Because of the way it's happened, and the general hate of Sky/Ineos, the way it's happened will always be held against him.

The decision was fairly straightforward. Surely the top of the last climb was the last available official time check before the race was stoped. It's the only option the organisers had. It's just a shame the most exciting edition in years has been decided in this manner, but I think the right rider has won. (Baring anything amazing happening tomorrow).
