Chrono des Herbiers Discussion
Chrono des Herbiers

The annual ProTour's individual chrono event is about to go into it's 11th edition (it's 10th edition on ProTour level). It's business as usual, that the PT field is heading for France and the Chrono des Herbiers. For the first time in it's history, the event is parted in two "stages" or legs, both coming with almost the same length and profile. Instead of 48km, the riders need to prove their timetrial skills over 96km then.

Defending race winner Taylor Phinney (victorious in 2017 and 2016) will aim for the triple and he would become the first rider to win this event three times. Jerome Coppel (2014 and 2012) is spending his season in the PCT and won't be able to attack the triple-crown this year. Marlen Zmorka (2015), Fabian Cancellara (2013), Michael Rogers (2011), David Zabriskie (2010 and 2009) and Sebastian Lang (2008, held as a CT event) as the other past winners here.

So Phinney's biggest competitor in the last two years ain't here this time: Coppel (who finished last year's chrono less than a second slower than Phinney) did not receive (or apply for) a wildcard entry and will be missed by the local crowd. Instead of him, Fiedler may become Phinney's most dangerous competitor. The German could never finish better than 4th in this event though. Phinney is a proven winner and should be considered the top favorite (yet again).

Zmorka as maybe the only other real contender behind Fiedler. The still young Ukranian already managed to win this race back in 2015, where his victory was rather upsetting though. Since then, he finished 5th in 2016 and a disappointing 14th last year. Will be more of a competitor for Phinney this year?

Durbridge (wildcard entry with cycleYorkshire), Kittel and Vlatos form the first core of possible podium contenders. Several more dark horses then: reigning TT world champion Gesink, Sütterlin, Dillier, Kritskiy, Gonzalez, Viennet, Paillot, Howson or Van Winden could all be real threats for the podium, if they have a good daily form. Timetrials can be tricky, but to get a big result, you need to consistently perform on both legs here.
Evonik's full sweep of the podium will be pretty cool to see. Cool

Thanks for the preview tsmoha! Smile

Finally its there. Favourite race of the season. Cant wait to see the report. Only got the 41 start number but we are ready to roll!

A Big Thank You To All MG And ICL Reporters!
And To All Who Organize Something On Daily As Well!

Go Fiedler!

This is Phinneys to loose, and I doubt he will
Something different than a Phinney win will be a major surprise, considering the TT history in the PT.

Fingers crossed Paillot can run away with some kind of a result here. Looking at the startlist, anything from 3rd to 16th can't come as a big surprise.

Looking forward to having Wurtz here next season, but not the biggest ambitions this time around. We've seen some decent TTs from Korsæth this season, so would be cool if he could continue that trend here.
It will be interesting to see whether or not it is a good thing for Vlatos to have 2 stages to get the result clear. In the past seasons he did pretty well here with 6th and 7th respectively. If he can do something similar this season we are happy, although we are obviously dreaming of a podium in a season where Coppel isn't present here.

Zmorka is the better "off-the-grid" favorite, but he is very inconsistent, so with some luck we can beat him. I doubt that we will be even remotely close to beating neither Fiedler nor Phinney - Especially over a 2-stage race.

Looking at the stats of each rider in the top 25 battle it is going to be extremely close, however, so we will just have to cross our fingers.

Nothing spectacular here from Vlatos, but 7th is OK. Would have liked atleast 5th, but that “awful” first run ruined any chance of that happening so 7th is OK.

Top 3 exactly like it should be, so pretty good AI in that regard. The next 10-15 riders are stupid close, so this atleast levels out at bit of the randomness...

What a fantastic ride Howson had in the first half Shock

The final 6th place is a great result as well though. Way above expectations.
Way to go Bibby!!
Average by Paillot, which is okay. Not much more to say on our performance, really.

Behind the superior Phinney that was an interesting fight for the top placings and the podium! Must say I enjoyed the two in one-report, as well. Thank you for that, tsmoha!
Very anonymous race from our top guy here, Nascimento. Not good for our win goal, but at least we fared better than Evonik Grin

Thanks for the report TS!

nothing to see here for us...
Sütterlin with a fricking joke of a ride here. 25th doesn't even deserve any more words wasted on this.
