[PT] Evonik - ELKO | 2018
knockout
I really wasnt expecting so many replies for a signing like Lienhard considering the number of reactions some other signings by me/others have created. Thanks guys Grin

Im not 100% decided yet but i strongly tend towards the punchy attacker version.my leadout positions for the next five years are filled with dzamastagic and Eislers with the obvious exception of the one season of eislers prime and he wont become as good as them eventhough the leadout version looks great too. But i will keep that decision open till the end of the season.

sammyt - he's a rider that likely will end up on the trading list once i get a great offer so keep him on your short lists Pfft

heine - shit, i missed that stat. Obviously have changed my decision now Grin

Our team for the mountains is smaller than the team of most other PT teams but this doesnt mean that we dont have a plan for races that feature this profile. We have four climbers who fit a very similar profile. Versatile climbers who can fight for KoM or stage wins if a break gets to the line. Climbers who rather go into the attack than Zubeldia themselves to a GC results. All of them are capable of riding both hilly and mountainous races and we dont mind that none of them can handle a TT bike especially well since that is not needed for their job.

It is incredibly tough to cut down our hills team to its core since basically every member of our team is capable of riding on hilly terrain. Even if not listed here Michael Van Stayen will also lead some hilly races, our climbers are all skilled for hilly races too and also members of the cobbles team including Greg Van Avermaet will be part of our hill support.

Tobyn Horton76536757706574717682726557

Michael Van Stayen remains our sole sprint leader for now but there have been a couple of changes in his leadout. Dzamastagic is the constant in his leadout train and one of Greg Van Avermart and Luis Miguel Mansilla will complete the destinated leadout train for most races. Ingus Eislers will often be the backup leadout in case of misstimed punctures or just additional legs in the sprint preparation. Horton will get the opportunities to ride on his own in several races.

Greg Van Avermaet is once again the leader for our cobble season. While many teams will be interested to hear that he will be sold at the end of the season, we are sure that he will give us one more fantastic season as a top 3 cobbler on this planet. We would loved to give him some stronger support this season but we could keep Nooytens as a key helper and add capable support guys like Laurens De Vreese. Guys like Armands Becis, Andris Smirnovs or Yannick Stoltz will complete the cobble teams and they all should be strong additions to the cobbles team.

Time Trials

FLMOHITTSTRSRCCBSPACFGDHPR
Yannick Stoltz80626866767975656274857380

After the departure of our 2017 stagiares i have to announce someone else as TT leader for the team. Without Marco Mathis, there can only be one: The one, the only, Yannick Stoltz. He is officially our time trial leader as he can ride short prologues very well. Also because this guy deserves getting called a leader. Even if its just in a pointless (sorry tsmoha) category like TTs.

Sorted by OVR. Anyone else think the placing of Horton and Mansilla might be just a tiny bit weird

We are satisfied with the transfer season. There was no superb offer for either of our leaders so we decided to keep them all together for another season while Lopez develops his skills in the continental tour. We lost a lot of depth with the departures of our loaned in riders Potts and taubel as well and the sales of arguably our 2nd best climber Michel Koch, our arguably 2nd best puncheur Evaldas Siskevicius and our arguably 2nd best leadout in Janis Dakteris which will surely lead to a drop from the sensational 3rd place in the 2017 WT Rankings. But having added four strong Latvian talents we are quite happy with the squad and think that we can be a top 3 contender by 2020 again.

I spend like 7% of my cap on my four climbers. Its fair to say i basically ignore the mountains Pfft

I'm so guilty of typecasting my climbers Pfft

Goals 2018

Win Tour de France
Spoiler
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/profiles/ptm_tdf_1.jpgpcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/profiles/ptm_tdf_2.jpgpcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/profiles/ptm_tdf_3.jpg
For the third year in a row we targetted the biggest race in the world for our win goal. When we picked this goal we planned to trust Michel Koch to achieve this but apparantly, the pressure was too much to handle for him and he fled the team. The new plan is still an unknown but the general assumption is that Yannick Stoltz is supposed to take yellow in the opening prologue and defend it till the Champs Elyssee.

Top 10 Milan - San Remo
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/profiles/ptm_sanremo.jpg
Last season's success in Milan - San Remo is arguably the most prestigious victory in our still short team history and we are looking to do well there again. Top 10 ambitions sounds like a fair goal to proclaim since everyone will be looking at last seasons winner.

Top 10 Paris - Roubaix
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/profiles/ptm_roubaix.jpg
Roubaix might be our favourite race on the calendar and we have had some very memorable fights against Sam Bewley in the last couple of years on the road to the velodrome and in it as well. Evonik finished 2nd in 2015 with Tom Boonen as a PCT wildcard team and Greg Van Avermaet finished 2nd and 3rd in the last two editions. While we hope to claim the top spot one year our official goal is a top ten which looks very doable to us.

Top 3 Ronde van Vlaanderen
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/profiles/ptm_rondevv.jpg
We were unsure whether we wanted another goal decided on the cobblestones but once Greg Van Avermaet was sure to stay for one more year for us we decided to make this our fourth race goal and we aim to repeat the top 3 result that Greg achieved twice in the last two years by finished 2nd behind that one guy from New Zealand.

Top 10 Team Standings
The team standing goal is in our opinion always the most important one and after achieving an ambitious top 5 goal in 2017 we became a bit more cautious again and took the top 10 goal for this season. By keeping together the leader trio that lead us to a fantastic third place last season this goal looks in line with our expectations.

We will for sure fight against you on those cobblestones Wink

Well except for the usual TdF goal, all seems very possible. Ronde van Vlaanderen could be difficult, but GVA should still be favorite for a podium atleast.

Yep the Tour goal. Still dont understand why there is the need to do a GT goal but not the need to do a monument goal (or simply one PTM goal as it is in all other divisions) but it forces us to sth like that until we have a solid stage racer at some point Pfft

The fight on the cobblestones will be tougher this season but i still think that GVA is a top 2-3 guy there. Even if it may not be as clear cut as in past seasons.

Amateur Team: Signal Iduna

During the last couple of years Evonik - ELKO has grown into a team that also became a global brand through the very unique style of racing and team building and a lot of the ideas that are today seen as typically Evonik - esque where already in place when the team was founded in 2014 as Evonik - Signal Iduna and raced in the Continental Division. After the promotion to PCT Signal Iduna stepped down as a title sponsor and become a minor sponsor for us but they remained loyal to our team till today. When our sports management group got the opportunity to create an amateur team that competes against continental cycling teams Signal Iduna quickly stepped up as the title sponsor of the new team.

Rider by rider presentation:

Florian Bissinger was the final signing for Evonik - Signal Iduna for our debut season in 2014 and proved himself a valuable asset as a good rouleur and we're happy that he returns to Signal Iduna for this season.
Gianni Meersman was signed by Evonik - ELKO for the debut Pro Tour season in 2016 and surprised many fans and experts as a crucial domestique for Greg Van Avermaet and while one can see first signs of aging already, we still believe him to be a strong cobbler and rouleur for lower division cycling.
Joosten Vaidem was a stagiare for Evonik - ELKO in 2017 and while he didnt improve enought to get a PT contract, he was deemed promising enough to be recommended to Signal Iduna. He is a climber who is also very capable on the hills.

Wojciech "ctrl + v" Pszczolarski is in our opinion one of the strongest riders on an amateur contract this season and we are surprised that no CT team gave him a full-time contract. He is a strong prologue rider but also excels in longer time trials, as a rouleur and would also work well as a supporting team mate for hills or sprint trains.
Yanjanani Sakala is arguably the most interesting rider on an amateur contract this year and while he might not have the reputation yet we believe that he will be a massive asset to Signal Iduna. He is not only the best rouleur on an amateur contract but we believe he might even be the best finisseur in the entire continental tour. Not only that but he is also a decent cobbler if he is on a good day. Watch out for him in flat CT classics!
Mirac Kal is nicknamed "The Anatolian Miracle" for a reason. While he is still a fairly unknown name he is comparable to CT legends like Thiago Nardin and Marc de Maar. Rumors have linked him to Evonik - ELKO for a couple of years but the team never pulled the trigger on him after promoting through the divisions quickly but we are glad he gets the chance to recommend himself for a fulltime 2019 CT contract somewhere.
Michaeil Kortsidakis is an interesting rouleur with a skill set that should be adaptable to CT racing and being only 24 he could still grow into a stronger rider for the future.
Scott Ambrose is a rider we admittedly didnt even know until the Xero management recommended him as an interesting talent for the future. He's quite solid allround right now on a couple of terrains but his future will be in the mountains.
