Ortisei is not horrible, but its underwhelming. It has the chance to work really well, but it just seems RCS wan't to make chances of something significant happen significantly lesser by designing the stage in such a manner.

I can live with it tho. Its decent. Whats horrible about the route is that last mountain stage.

I think overall it's a good route, but considering it's the 100th Giro (if any parcours of a Grand Tour ever was to be batshit crazy, it would be this one) it's a little underwhelming.

Just to add my two cents to the discussion (I'm probably repeating a lot of what's been said already, I haven't read through it all, so I apologise in advance)

- Oropa is completely unnecessary, when we already have two ____/ stages with Blockhaus and Piancavallo, and it's nowhere near as hard as either of those two climbs. Would be much better as an MTT like 2007 if they really want to include it. Bergamo stage could be a lot better/harder too (I see RCS are optimistically giving it 4*s on their website...)

- I can't fully decide whether I think they're using the right sides of Umbrail and Stelvio, but much as I want to see Stelvio climbed from the 'famous' side I think they've done it the right way. Actually, just checking cyclingcols, it looks like Umbrail from the north is 13.2km @ 8.6%, so that will be very tasty indeed coming after both Mortirolo and Stelvio. Let the hype train commence Cool

- I was very disappointed when I first saw the Ortisei stage, but the more I look at it the more I like it. Would still have preferred the Fedaia-Pordoi combo that was initially rumoured, and the fact that there is a tough MTF the next day will probably discourage attacks.

- Grappa stage is a nice idea, but there are at least two more difficult ascents they could have chosen without going too much out of the way.

Apparently they're climbing Etna on a different, steeper road to the one they climbed in 2011, which is good news. Etna and Blockhaus MTF will add 3-week interest that can sometimes be lacking from the Giro, which is very welcome, as is the time-trialling mileage, as I'm sure has been said before. Now to pray that Nairo wants to turn up Grin

I have no crystal ball, cool to know you got a working one!
Was trying to state my opinion.Of course what I said is not certain. I was trying to say that I think that the Ortisei stage will only have last climb as action. It can also be an awesome stage but I don't think that will happen.

Yeah, the Bergamo stage getting 4 stars is ridiculous....

I think the reason why we are pretty disappointed in Ortisei was the fact we were promised (or so we thought) a grueling, classic dolomite stage with a finishing combo of Giau-Tre Cime (my favourite) or Fedaia-Sella.

I guess we can only dream:

A true mothafucking dolomite-stage. Insanity.

And you thought Zomegnan would throw in a flat stage beforehand to please the riders? Nope, some of the the, if not THE hardest 1-2 punch in all of cycling: Crostis-Zoncolan. See, thats something people would rave about and make the 100th edition all the more memorable.

My bad evidently, not sure how it happened, I moved the post and somehow the post was not appearing in the correct thread and wasn't in news in october either. Never happened before, sorry for that.

Damn, Crostis/Zoncolan 2011 is up there with Ullrich/Basso/Vino/Valverde 2006, Rasmussen 2007, Saunier Duval 2008, Anton 2010, Ricco 2011 among favourite things I never got to see.

Valverde to target the Classics again after a season chasing GT GCs. Wants to win races that have eluded him in the past, so Amstel, Lombardia and the Worlds...

Very happy to see Valverde aiming classics he never won, 2 of Amstel, Lombardy and World trio will make him very happy, which his age is getting older and he will be 37 next year, wishing him luck in against youngsters.

Slightly old news, but Shane Sutton has been found guilty of using sexist language against Jess Varnish by British Cycling. Guess that's the end of his career in Britain.
