A few nights ago I was browsing CQ Ranking, only to find that someone named Tom van Asbroeck was currently ranked number 28th. In the process of checking out the year he had in 2014, with fantastic results at a bunch of minor races I only knew from their propensity to allow for decent results in PCM, I realized that I had a lost a lot more touch with pro cycling as a sport than I'd thought. Pretty quickly I zeroed in on why. I no longer knew the riders because I didn't play PCM, and no longer knew anything else 'cause I wasn't here. And so I've decided to try and make a return to the site.
For those of you who don't know me, I joined in late 2007 and became an active member a few months later. Initially, I was an immature brat who was probably the second least liked regular on the site. Over the years I came to be pretty well respected (at least I thought) by most of the other major figures in the community. I was on the staff of the short lived PCM.daily Mag, watched the VizelFX disaster unfold, lost innumerable arguments to isso, hung out in Cafe Pedro and on MSN chat, laughed (and cried in deep pain) at Waghlon, hung on every post of SN's DFL and rjc's Auber 93 PCM 07 stories, played in the BATracer league (might have to get that one restarted) and generally enjoyed myself immensely.
However, the man-game, or more precisely me being a colossal fuckup w/r/t the man-game, was my downfall. The first time around I took on too much responsibility, got things done but only late, and reacted over the top and poorly when that was noted. I up and left. Then a little while later, I decided to make a comeback, mainly due to the man-game, and once again made a complete ass of myself, once again leaving, this time for over two years. At least you can say I was consistent. I've apologized to SN for all this, and hopefully it is in the past.
Here's a short intro for those lucky enough to not have to sit through my prattlings for oh so many years. I'm American, a student in computer science and mathematics focusing on cryptography, with a strong background in history and economics, as well as other topics. In addition to cycling I follow what most of y'all call football (Come on you Spurs!), basketball (Wizards), F1, and am generally abreast of most of the other US sports. PCM 07 remains my favorite PCM, not because it was good (it wasn't), but because either it or Halo 3 multiplayer is the game I've spent the most time on in my life. It had its many quirks and was honestly kind of bad, but I loved it.
I'm happy to be back, although I won't be nearly as active as I was in the days when PCM.daily was my homepage. A lot has changed in the last few years, Mike has stepped down, and it seems isso, p3druh, Waghlon, and a number of the other old stalwarts have moved on, but more than a few of the old folks, Levi4Life, rjc43, Crommy, SN of course, and others are still here. I'm looking forward to having a place to chat about cycling and many other topics again.

OMG it's Deadpool. You've grown into quite the cult-member in you absence  . Very happy to see anyone rediscover the community/game/whatever, let alone someone with as much predigree as you.

Can't really remember you tbh, but that's mainly due to getting active just about at the point where you left.
And guess? 13k posts now 
All I remember is that I thought you were Italian and therefore you were my fuckup in the Members DB, and you ended up in a Spanish-Italian team despite being American. But that's all gibberish for you I guess

Wait, I'm Italian? I've been trying non-stop to remember his name since I wrote that line. He was another east coast US teenager, and was the only regular that got trolled off the site. The admins didn't stop it since they were actively doing it too, he was such a little shit. I remember a regular (don't remember who, although weirdly I don't think it was Waghlon) had a signature with pictures of a joke line of household items (aprons, pots and pans, etc.) that all said 'Fuck name here" on them.

Way too short version, a few of the other folks around can expand/correct, it was a long time ago.
A user on the site named Roadie decides to start a site, VizelFX, where they'll make graphic expansion packs for PCM. He draws in a few well known figures in the community, definitely Smoothie, I want to say Miya and rjc_43, a few others as well. It starts as a community, then becomes a business (don't ask how they expected to monetize PCM add-ons, I have no idea), then finally they decide they want to make a PCM competitor. It flames out spectacularly, as you'd expect. Point is, Roadie was a jackass, and decided if he team was making a PCM competitor they better not be part of the PCM community, and so some of the best known and liked folks disappeared for a while. Some, like Smoothie, never totally came back. Generally, it was one of the more notable things going on in the PCM community for a while. |

I remember your 2012 comeback being a pretty big deal, and then bam! Radio Silence.
I obviously wasn't here in your hay day and I was not a very experienced member during your first relog (if I even am now), but I know enough about this site to know that you are kind of a legend. So welcome back!
In the meantime, do you remember when PCM was a bad game a few years ago? Well I have some bad news... it's way worse.
I'm quite interested in this Vizlefx scandal. In my time I've seen TTSpecialist, Admir, and rorxcp, and I thought those were some pretty big scandals. But this sounds pretty bad. There actually has been another PCM Wannabee attempted in your absence, but it was much less malicious, and it, like always died mid production.
Edit: I too know how to be one of least less liked without actually dipping to the lowest of lows. There's always been those couple of other guys that were just so bad I seemed alright.

I was thinking about getting PCM 14 the other day, but the reviews on steam really turned me off, it seems like they broke as much as they fixed.
What I really, really want is PCM 07. I think I'd kill for a copy, it holds so much nostalgia. Problem is that I don't have a disk drive, but I'm seriously considering buying a copy and making an .iso. I loved that game, and am so annoyed that Cyanide or Steam or GameTap or GOG or whomever isn't selling it in downloadable form for a few bucks. |
