No. All the new races in 'new markets' have a net loss. All of them.

Yep, i know that, but i thought that is typical when you try to establish something. Bigger problem is 50-100 years old race with net loss or without interested sponsors.

Also i think this is more about spreading the sport and marketing money, rather than direct net gain from races.
I'll be back

But the sport of Proffesional cycling is dying either eay.
With the huge amounts of doping especially with Armstrong. People are starting to believe that everyone in the sport dopes.
Just have to say that.
Sorry

What others have said above plus sooner or later a number of other professional sports will enter the dirty linen period that cycling has been going through for the last 2 decades...

Details of the Tour de Suiise 2014 route presented. Last two stages promising to be quite good, end on Verbier and Saas Fe.

No surprise for Hesjedal. really. And that calendar looks like really bad. Im gonna stop watching cycling if it ever happens. really.

I'd say the same, but the F1 precedent tells me that I won't be able to stop myself from watching, no matter how disgusting these changes may be. Terrible stuff.

I've finally had a chance to read about the calendar reform and here is what I think:

I dislike the Dubai tour. As Football has shown lately getting too heavily involved in that region for the money is fraught with danger.

Not happy with E3 being downgraded. I'd rather that it had been Gent Wevelgem or Omloop personally if had to pick one.

Shorter P-N and T-A makes me sad. Same with Dauphine and Suisse. I thought they would also be able to overlap for historical reasons but apparently not.

I like the idea of an official B Team.

I'm confused about how riders are supposed to warm up for the Giro. There will only be so many spots at Romandie given that it is second tier and if the teams then have to resort to HC races that would have even fewer places. I think the Vuelta may experience a similar problem.

Anyway you guys won't stop watching cycling, I'm betting on it. Also as is repeatedly stressed in the post this is provisional and some races still need to be checked to see if they meet the criteria. Note that some of that criteria involves high quality TV footage so you can understand why Catalunya isn't there. California is a bit baffling but it would probably want to stay at the lower tiers anyway to enable the current Continental teams to participate.

Also worth pointing out that there are 11 days in division one that are free at the moment.

That's probably the change that's the easiest to understand for me. GW and Omloop are historically bigger races, and both have a more particular parcours than E3 which is pretty much a mini-RvV.

I guess I just prefer E3's racing. Either way all 3 should be top tier Pfft

No Biritsh or American races. Just 18 days of Mid East racing. Seems legit.

Personally, I would have liked Paris-Tours to be upgraded. With Milan-San Remo featuring an extra climb (at least for 2014, but maybe they decide to keep it for the foreseeable future), Vattenfall Cyclasics is the only WT one day race for the sprinters. Maybe it's because I am a Cav fan, but the WT doesn't cater for the sprintes enough imo

Not surprised by Hesjedal at all, it has been pretty much a public secret for a while now. I'd also be shocked if he stopped using it. This strikes me as damage limitation (like Armstrong claiming he didn't use in the comeback).

Agree with you about the damage limitation. Desparate to keep his Giro win so claims he only doped during the dark era. Having said that, Garmin appear to be clean, so who knows?

His biggest achievements were some top 5s in smaller italian classics

Proof again that a lot of huge talents go nowhere as pros

What's his name? And how old is he?

Wiki seems to have no overlap between the two races

EDIT: but Leonardo Giordani would be my guess, he won the Worlds RR and Piccolo Lombardi.

I haven't got time to check but in my recollection the U23 TT world championship is a much better indicator of talent later in life because you show that you can hold a high power for a fair length of the. So it is a bit surprising.

Yeah, but it's not really the best indicator.
F.E. Panzerwagen was never any good in the U23 TT worlds, and look at him now. The German that won the U23 TT worlds though, Marcel Kittel, turns out to be a rather fast sprinter instead of a strong TTer.
