Congress turning into an absurd show right now.

First, the dossier full of allegations against McQuaid is being discussed despite the fact that no one other than a few members have really seen it - and those, who have it, reject to hand it over (so why even discuss it?).

Next, Greece accuse Cookson's camp of an attempted (and failed, I guess...) bribe of 25.000 €.

Ethics Commission wants to postpone the election until this has been examined.

And now, chairman of same commission claims he's unable to hear anything.

Overall disappointing route. Clearly lacks a hilly stage, and also the typical very long sprint stage.

I'm pretty sure that is illegal Frown

In a few years the Italian and Spanish races will go to this. Pfft

When I said 'it gets worse' earlier today, I didn't know this would happen:

Their under 23 team will merge with Team Nippo-De Rosa. All Vini Fantini's cyclist are still without a contract..

Worse ? From the moment the vote will be done with secret ballots it's crystal-clear McQuaid is going to win it with a large margin.

It's quite interesting/concerning following it all progress on Twitter.

They've just voted to decide whether to vote to amend the rules to allow the incumbent president to automatically be nominated for the next election ... the result was 21v21.

No majority, so they will not vote on that, so the president can't be automatically nominated.

But it doesnt matter, because McQuaid insists his Thai/Moroccan nominations are legit.

If McQuaid wins, no doubt there will be a legal challenge to it therefore. But it's clearly going to be close

Some tidbits off the NOS.nl website.

From Marcel Wintels, Dutch Cycling president, who is at the congress:
"The Ethics Commission is talking for a long time about all sorts of allegations that have been made. Unclear. Térrible. Everyone loses."

Note that the UCI Ethics Commission has come under criticism for not being indepentent and playing foul games for McQuaid: https://www.velona...-over.aspx

Theo De Rooij, former team Rabobank manager, appearantly also there:
"The way the UCI-system has been organised is the cause of this ludicrous display. ALL who are involved are responsible."

Luuk Eisenga, president of the AIGCP (teams association):
"At the first voting round I was sitting behind someone who put up his hand twice. He voted in favour one time and against one time."

NOS editor at the scene says:
"It's a freakshow, this UCI-congress. People who don't vote, who put up their hand twice or who are yawning."

Sporza commentator Renaat Schotte:
"I will summarize the congress up to now: successful parody of democracy."

Meanwhile, the president of the previously named UCI Ethics Commission, has revealed that the Greek cycling union is supposed to recieve 25.000 euro's from Brian Cookson, and Sky Sports was shown evidence for it.

EDIT: There is more.

McQuaid has now addressed the UCI congress as if he is a candidate for presidency. After the 21-21 vote didn't pass on the Thailand/Marocco proposal, PMQ had another trick up his sleeve.

Appearantly, the Swiss federation withdrew its nomination too late. Furthermore, a UCI lawyer referred to Swiss law and an earlier ruling by CAS in a similar case (huh?). This ruling states that a nomination by a national cycling union can't be withdrawn.

All of this would make PMQ's 'nomination' 'valid' after all. Can you believe this?

More ridiculous on the Swiss nomination bit is that it was withdrawn because it was not valid. Now it's valid because it can't be withdrawn.
*mindfuck*

That's just good stuff, you can't make things like that up Grin

First report on another forum is that Cookson has won the vote. Unconfirmed. Will try and get a confirmation.

Appearantly its 24-18 in Cookson's favour.
