Post Tour criteriums
Bosskardo
Can those who have seen them enlighten me a little. I know they are never raced at 100% but how seriously are they taken? I know that sometimes certain riders are designated to win but is it common?
For example: Froome-Porte just took 1-2 in a criterium. Was it raced or just acted?

Those criteriums are not taken very, very seriously. I can guess this one was kind of a gift, but most criteriums are raced though.

I can only guess this was a fixed result. If not, Froome has brilliant recovery and there must've been an impressive mountain in Aalst, which isn't the case Grin

However, in general it's extremely tough to win a criterium, tough races. But these post-Tour criteria might be another case.

It's just a guess on my part, I'm not sure about all of this. It just seems fixed when Froome wins a criterium, which isn't exactly his specialty.

every criterium is fixed. The rider who gets the most startmoney wins

somethimes it isn't acted but then there is just a battle between two guys

Every criterium? I don't think that's true. Post-Tour and post-WC, maybe, but I heard Boonen say criteriums (kermiskoersen is also criterium) are actually very hard to win, even for a professional cyclist. Or do you categorize that differently from these criteriums?

Avin Wargunnson
Money, money and money, that is the only purpose of these criteriums, all are fixed. So you will see Sky 1-2 and Cav, Sagan,Greipel winning in them.
I'll be back

The top riders get paid huge appearance fees just for showing up to these races and often it will be 'fixed' so that they win or whatever. The whole podium is sometimes fixed in the bigger races, depending on how many stars are there. It gives more people in a broader area, usually outside France, a chance to see the newly-annointed Tour winner.

Froome gets for every criterium about 35000€

I hate thos post tour criteriums. Really happy nor Quintana nor Sagan will race any. They can start preparing the WC already Smile

I feel like racing all those crits makes it very hard to have a decent end of the season.

Froome won in Aalst btw. A sky 1-2 with Richie Porte (feels familiar)

Yeah, not sure what to think of the criteriums.
Well, at least Mollema won Boxmeer Wink

They let the guys win that the people want to see winning. Even Jurgen Van den Broeck won a criterium last year..
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Just out of interest, how many Post Tour criteriums are there Wink

Let's for a moment distinguish 'Criterium' and 'Post Tour Criterium'.

A criterium is a circuit race consisting of short laps, these are taken quite seriously in some countries (Britain for one).

Post Tour Criteriums are not at all serious. More often than not fixed and exist purely to bring *insert rider here* to *insert town here* Here is an article from the Inner Ring https://inrng.com/...er+Ring%29

Interesting article. Awesome paragraph:

In the late 1970s one amateur thwarted the pros. This rider was so strong he was hurting the pros. Frustrated at the strong riding the pros had words and decided to gang up on the amateur but the rookie hit back, dropping them. His name? Bernard Hinault, a future five time Tour de France winner.

All post-tour criteriums are fixed. It's either a famous, succesfull rider (Froome+Porte, Greipel, or even Rider Hesjadal last year in his pink jersey) or a local popular rider (De Gendt, Van den Broeck and Vanendert in Flemish criteriums, Mollema in Boxmeer) that wins, even on a course that doesn't fit them at all.

iirc Andy Schleck won a criteriums from a breakaway beating Basso and Terpstra

I like those criteriums actually

I'm visiting the criterium of Sint-Niklaas. It'll be my first post-tour criterium. Either Froome or Kittel will take the win I think.

Froome will definately win. He asks 35000€ Kittel only 14000€. Maybe I also go to Sint-Niklaas and definately Wolvertem
