OBJ´s Stage (Seeking Feedback)
MrOBJ
Hi,

After a lot of training, and a lot of bad/unplayable stages, I finally think that I´d made a stage, which is presentable for others. But still I wouldn´t say I´m rather good or anything. But at least I think they are playable Wink

As my title said, I´m seeking feedback, so that I - hopefully - can become better. I´m not striking for anything, but I´d always liked being a small team in PCM, and small races have no variants, so that´s simply why I´m started. And now I want to go to the next level Smile

My first race is a Danish Championship Variant.

A bit short. I would make it about 200 kms. Smile

I must say that I am very impressed by this stage, especially seeing as it is your first.

As for feedback, the only real criticism I have is also regarding the length. As a National Championship it should probably be a bit longer. Other than that I only have positive things to say. Especially the surroundings are really well made and your use of leaves on the roads through the forrest was a nice detail.

All in all a very impressive firste stage. Wink

I feared it was terrible.. So this is wonderful news!
My largest problem is definitely the slopes, so how were these? Otherwise I think i give it a go again, since it worked that well Wink

Looking good from the screens. I can`t open it for some reason. Have the same problem with other stages. Probably due to an isolated object issue...

I would suggest that you make medium city borders even with large cities. Then the spectators aren`t behind a big fence but only behind smaller barriers.

Well, the final slope is pretty "tough" by Danish standards, but it is not really making any difference during the race. All the riders seemed to get past it effortlessly. But with a well timed attack on the final lap a rider might be able to use the slope to cheat the sprinters, but when I played it, it still ended in a bunch sprint.

I finally got some time to make stages again. I´ve made two, which I once again would like some feedback and tips on. The first one is a longer TT, which I actually think is quite good. So that isn´t my biggest worry. (I forgot to rebuild the cities I know, but I guess that´s not the biggest problem, when the stages is just a test)

My largest problem is the mountain stages. My slopes are OK, when the road is straight, but as soon as I put on some swings, the slopes go crazy! And the "U"-swing´s is just hopeless.. Do you guys have any tips to solve that problem, or at least just some I can pratice on? Smile

You can see that the profile looks fine, but as soon you get into the stage it´s almost impossible to play

Just checked out the mountain stage. I'm not sure if the slopes of the stage are 'crazy' as you've posted it, or if they were crazy and then you edited them a bit and then posted. But certainly the stage you posted doesn't have terrible slopes. Terrible would be lots of ups and downs, like stages from PCM10 Pfft The slopes from the stage you posted are not very constant, indeed, but they are all uphill, so it is playable.

To make them better, there's not much that you can do other than correcting every point manually (especially with the PCM12 Stage Editor feature, in which you can change a point's height looking at the profile). Another thing you can do is try to limit the number of road points, though looking at the Stage Viewer it seems you're not using too many nor too few, so that's good. But ultimately, as Pellizotti said:

How do you get such good slopes! It is fantastic

It takes patience, meticulousness and above all - experience. I've learnt it through years of practise. Wink

Practice and patience are the key to getting good slopes imo Smile

You could also try the Slope calculator I once posted. Although it's not much practical (at least if you're not used to it), I find it useful to get constant slopes in longer climbs.

Lastly - hell, some of those sections in the climbs are absurdly steep. You want to kill the riders? Pfft In the last climb, there was a 10% ramp that I thought was flat - that was because, from the differences in road inclination, it really looked like 0% or something (I had forgotten that they were riding in a 23% section Pfft

Thank you so much lluuiiggii.. Your comments are really helpfull! I´m also glad that you don´t think my slopes are terrible, and yes, I tried to fix them as much as possible, so it at least only went up.

I´ll definitely look at you slope calculator. I think the most important thing is to get slopes which are constant, and then they can be a bit more realistic later on (Change a bit, instead of having the same % all the way up).. Again - Thanks a lot! Smile
