Hopefully this is the end of it. what are Landis' lawyers going to say? That the French lab mishandled all of the samples? Probably. I just would hope that this would get resolved before July so that Pereiro can have some time to enjoy his victory. Won't happen though
Landis tests show testosterone traces: report

PARIS (Reuters) - Further analyses of urine samples from 2006 Tour de France winner Floyd Landis have shown traces of synthetic testosterone, French newspaper L'Equipe reported on Monday.

The seven samples, taken during the 2006 Tour, had at first been tested negative but were retested by a French laboratory, L'Equipe said on its website (www.lequipe.fr.). The lab used a technique aimed at detecting exogenous testosterone as opposed to the hormone naturally contained in the body.
American Landis faces a disciplinary hearing in the U.S. next month after testing positive for testosterone during the 2006 Tour. If found guilty of doping, Landis, who denies any wrongdoing, faces a two-year suspension from the sport and the possibility of becoming the first Tour winner to be stripped of his title. |

I hope Landis is banned, yes I have him in my Toyota team but I find it despicable how he rips is few fans off in order to pay for a court case that he cant win. |

i don't know how he can deny the usage of drugs, i mean no one performs as bad as he did in stage whatever, and then the very next day go solo over mountains and win by miles |

Looks like Landis' lawyers are complaining because they weren't given access to the French lab as the tests were being conducted. So Landis and his lawyers go on the offensive and attack the integrity of the French testing lab. To my mind, that does not constitute a strong defense. I think he should be banned and Pereiro should get the glory, NOW!

i think that Pereiro should've been credited with the win and glory when his Test A + B were found to be positive, i think that it is much more than coincidence that both tests were positive |

He knows he's got no chance: he's clutching at straws, and fully deserves to lose his Tour title and be banned for two years if not more. Cycling needs to get clean!!! |

I must admit, it is not looking good for Landis right now. I've been an avid defender of his for a while. Sad to hear this. At least I got Leipheimer to cheer for. Serve up the 2 year ban and lets get on with it.

nope, it's not looking good. If he gets a 2 year ban after that no team will sign him. This has truely been one of cyclings darkest eras, and Floyd doesn't deserve a team. Neither will any team want him. |

I agree that Landis is probably a cheater. I just wish the French authorities would allow Landis' "experts" the access that they want because then when he is found guilty he can't say that the proper safeguards were not taken.
I also disagree that this is one of the darkest eras of cycling because everything since the late 1960's has been dark as cheating has been rampant.
Anyway, seems we need to get the dopers out of the sport so the most gifted, hardest working athletes are the winners. |

I think that all the Testing should be done in front of an international pannel at a reliable lab NOT in France or the US. With so many negative A samples and now so many posotive B samples. One has to wonder. We all have to admit that the French Lab in question has a dubious history *cough* Lance *cough* Landaluze. There are so many things that can go wrong and tests can be botched. International panel, reliable facility, reliable results. |

Here's the logic. Testosterone has to be taken over time to have any effect (Think of bodybuilding effects and recovery). Thats why I highly doubted the first result because it was such an isolated incident. Because all these samples are probably positive. Landis is in deep deep trouble.
The reason why it wasn't done in a US (UCLA) lab is because their CIR machine is broken.
The chances of a false positive over 7 trials is impossible. Do I think no team should sign him? Nah. I don't hate him mainly because so many of these guys are being exposed as cheaters. I just feel bad for the sport.

Think the biggest problem here is Landis' childish responce to the whole incident.
would like to see tests done by neutral lab (NOT LCLA!!!) so things can finally be closed.
will be interesting to see results of 14th May hearing. Not good for American cycling as they are always seen to be shifting blame for positive results with no involvment from authorities.
regardless of two year ban for doping. think Landis should recive life ban for bringing sport into disrepute. the case and constant undermiming of cycling and doping authorities has damaged cyclings image more than the actual doing! |

Eh, I think his career is over. It was doubtful that he could recover from the hip surgery: not sure how that's going although he is racing in smaller events in the US. But if he gets banned for 2 years, then he'd be what, 35, 36 before he could come back? As all of us PCM players know, that's the age that riders are retired or are starting to retire. So I think he's history.
Now they are going after Basso, saying that he should give up a DNA sample so that the "Birillo" bags in Fuentes office can be checked against his DNA. So I have a feeling that he's going to face similar troubles very soon and will most likely miss the Giro.
What pisses me off the most is that we the fans are denied the pleasure of watching the stars of the sport go head to head against each other. As exciting as the Tour de France was last year, it was really a race of the 2nd-tier stars (or Co-leaders, in PCM parlance). How would Landis, Sastre, Kloden or Pereiro have fared against Valverde, Vinokourov, Basso or Ullrich? Not well. And now we'll never get to watch Ullrich again and probably not Basso either. He'd be 32 when his ban is up. His ban would take effect the last time he raced (june 06). June 08 would be the time he'd be back.
Reading the hip surgery analysis and his age of 32. Shouldn't be outside realm of realistic probability for comeback. If he races TDF again he's 33.
I admit I would have liked to watch basso vs ullrich. But knowing what I know now, it would be pointless. It'd come down to whoever doped best. That leaves Valverde and Vino. We got a preview of that at the vuelta.
I stand on the other side of the fence cmfos. I am glad this happened. Its time for a new generation of clean stars to step up. You have to clean up this sport. Pursuing the truth is well worth it in terms of the long term view.
Besides we get to see Valverde-Vino II at this year's TDF. Add in a little Levi to spice things up. I dont know what cycling fan won't be juiced for that.

I think we're on the same side of the fence Phanekim. I certainly don't want juiced riders in cycling and it will take events like Puerto to catalyze long-term beneficial changes to the sport. You are right in that for Ullrich and most likely Basso, we can't tease apart how much of their incredible cycling ability stems from talent/hard work and how much stems from doping. So one can't tell if they would've been the stars that they became if they weren't enhancing their performances legally. I guess my thinking on this is contaminated by PCM where none of the riders are doped 
I do hope that Valverde/Vino/Leipheimer/Kloden/Rogers etc. are clean, always have been and always will be. Eventually, if cycling ever cleans up its act, we'll have a more level playing field and we can evaluate the riders on their cycling ability without having to worry that they are juiced up. |

Levi is going to win it. Now that basso has been kicked to the curb Levi has the strongest squad in cycling to pull him up so he can fight it out on the final 3 ks of the last climb. He has 4 wins so far this year 3 time trials and a mountan top finish not to mention the overall at TOC.
As for landis his new hip is reprotedly putting out more power than his old hip ever did(check out his website).
Can anyone argue with lance. Lance says that the lab in qustion is bull shit. How many time was Lance accused of doping by this lab. To many to count. We all know that Lance is the most tested rider in history. A reliable lab an international panel and reliable results.

So you think Leipheimers going to win the tour because he has won stages in American tours that have nowhere near the same level of high quality as the tour?
Leipheimer's not the new Armstrong and Im looking forward to a tour where finally an American won't be in Yellow in Paris.

Another American Will wear yellow to paris no doubt about that but if not Levi look at Tom Danielson.
Armstrong wore yellow to paris because he earned it and if Landis can get open tests in a neutral enviroment maybe even he can prove he earned it. The winers of the Tour De France have always earned it no matter what nation they come from but looking at Landis' case as unbiased as possible observer, taking a step nack and looking at all the facts, tend to lean towards Landis' direction.
I may be wrong and in America we are all entitled to our opinions but that is how i see it. To many inconsitencies, to much history, to much media distorting what should be simple science. Any good scientist should have no trouble inviting a foreign scientist to observe a process which is clear cut and known to all in that field of science.
Landis has assembled a lot of evidence to support his case all of which is believable. |
