Tour of Qatar - Stage 6
kumazan
i1150.photobucket.com/albums/o608/kumazan/Tour%20of%20Qatar/St6_zps94f22cd6.jpg

The 2013 Tour of Qatar comes to an end, and it does so with a final, very short, ITT. Being only 3.5km long, it's unlikely that we'll see big gaps, so i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Pokerstars.png Tom Boonen's GC lead should remain unchanged, but the fight for the podium, stage win and a top 10 in GC will be exciting.

Four names stand above the rest as top favourites for today

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/srl_zps5f456879.png Fabian Cancellara
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/kng_zpsafcfbe9d.png Jacob Fiedler
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/vesuvio.png Marcel Kittel
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/pro_zpsc5cfa503.png Joost Posthuma

Spartacus is possibly the biggest favourite, but he'll have to dig deep to beat Fiedler, Kittel and Posthuma.

i1150.photobucket.com/albums/o608/kumazan/Tour%20of%20Qatar/Stage%206/PCM0001_zps2c8fa566.jpg

The first strong timetrialist to go is i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/kng_zpsafcfbe9d.png Viktor Renäng, who should be able to beat the best time, held so far by i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/wikipedia.png Stelly Robert. Indeed, he does, by less than one second though, with a time of 4'47'', so still maybe far from a top 10 time.

i1150.photobucket.com/albums/o608/kumazan/Tour%20of%20Qatar/Stage%206/PCM0002_zps88840edb.jpg

The Swede won't stay for long on the top step though, as i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/lot_zps2971ec30.png Javier Aramendía beats him by some hundreths of a second. We'll see for how long the Spaniard keeps the lead.

i1150.photobucket.com/albums/o608/kumazan/Tour%20of%20Qatar/Stage%206/PCM0003_zps451c78eb.jpg

Not for too long, as i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/bo.png Brian Vandborg beats him by 2''. This will be tougher to beat, although the top favourites should be faster anyway.

i1150.photobucket.com/albums/o608/kumazan/Tour%20of%20Qatar/Stage%206/PCM0004_zps4124aa2d.jpg

And the next rider is no other but i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/pen_zpsd6e38272.png Bradley Wiggins. The Briton is the main hope for today for Pendleton's Twicer, but more than a low top 10 would be a surprise. So far he gets the lead, again beating the previous best by less than one second, 4'45'' for Brad.

i1150.photobucket.com/albums/o608/kumazan/Tour%20of%20Qatar/Stage%206/PCM0005_zps9b0311de.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/pro_zpsc5cfa503.png Joost Posthuma is one of the big favourites, and as such should be above of all those who have already finished. The Dutch champion is a good specialist, and he shows it by setting the new best time with 4'39'', 5'' faster than the second best, so this time is probably out of reach for all except Cancellara, Kittel and Fiedler.

i1150.photobucket.com/albums/o608/kumazan/Tour%20of%20Qatar/Stage%206/PCM0006_zps8b64bb42.jpg

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/vesuvio.png Thomas De Gendt is another good specialist, and he shows it by getting the second best time, 4'' slower than Posthuma. A good reference for his team mate Kittel for sure.

i1150.photobucket.com/albums/o608/kumazan/Tour%20of%20Qatar/Stage%206/PCM0008_zps7b32bf57.jpg

And now i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/cal_zpsd3e3d363.png Ronan Van Zandbeek shows a great form being just 1 second slower than Posthuma! Fantastic time for the Dutch rider which should give him a top 10 today, but which also shows that Posthuma's time should be comfortably beaten by the other favourites.

i1150.photobucket.com/albums/o608/kumazan/Tour%20of%20Qatar/Stage%206/PCM0009_zpsec4dcdcc.jpg

And here comes i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/wig_zps5dbe18f9.png Adriano Malori, possibly Wiggle's best GC chance right now, and he beats Posthuma! Surprisingly strong ride for the Italian, who could even make a big jump in the GC. Will a top 10 be possible?

i1150.photobucket.com/albums/o608/kumazan/Tour%20of%20Qatar/Stage%206/PCM0010_zps9a29bec7.jpg

Turn for i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/vesuvio.png Marcel Kittel now. After 5 stages helping out his team mate Ben Swift, now he can finally ride for himself, although the win will be difficult with some fierce competition. And from difficult it gets to impossible for him, as he can't beat either Malori nor Posthuma, so stays 3rd, being some hundreths of seconds slower than both.

i1150.photobucket.com/albums/o608/kumazan/Tour%20of%20Qatar/Stage%206/PCM0011_zpsb1a3d88b.jpg

Ánd there we have another top favourite on its way, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/kng_zpsafcfbe9d.png Jacob Fiedler comes to this race specially to win this stage, so he must beat Malori's time. And the German does it! Being two seconds faster than the Italian, this time of 4'36'' means that Cancellara will have to dig deep to get the win.

i1150.photobucket.com/albums/o608/kumazan/Tour%20of%20Qatar/Stage%206/PCM0012_zps8d6e4ebb.jpg

And here comes i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/srl_zps5f456879.png Fabian Cancellara. He's most likely the only one who still can beat Fiedler. The Swiss is the biggest favourite, but will it be enough? It isn't! 4'37'' for Cancellara, so 1 second slower than Fiedler, who will most likely win this stage barring a great surprise.

i1150.photobucket.com/albums/o608/kumazan/Tour%20of%20Qatar/Stage%206/PCM0013_zps84e692c6.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/arm_zps60f3d6b6.png Ivano Lo Cicero is a decent prologue irder, but will need a good effort to keep his white jersey and top 10 in GC. And he does it! Goo time for the Italian losing just 10'' to Fiedler, the white jersey is secured for him, and so is a top 10!

i1150.photobucket.com/albums/o608/kumazan/Tour%20of%20Qatar/Stage%206/PCM0014_zpsb8ec4b27.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/cal_zpsd3e3d363.png Taylor Tolleson is possibly the most surprising rider in the top 10, and is just 2'' short of the top 5. Losing 20'' to Fiedler, he'll lose several position, but enough to fall off the top 10?

i1150.photobucket.com/albums/o608/kumazan/Tour%20of%20Qatar/Stage%206/PCM0015_zpsce9aed51.jpg

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/puma.png Thomas Vedel Kvist is the surprise stage winnner of this year's Tour of Qatar, and thanks to that win he's sitting 5th in the GC. He loses 21'' in the finish, so while Fiedler and Lo Cicero pass him, he'll retain a top 10, which is great for Puma.

i1150.photobucket.com/albums/o608/kumazan/Tour%20of%20Qatar/Stage%206/PCM0016_zps7cf6823a.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/mil_zpsb1abc362.png Sam Bewley just needs to beat by Bennati to climb onto the podium, and, if he can be 2 seconds faster than Swift, even a 2nd lace is within reach for the New Zealander. His time is only 14'' slower than Fiedler's, so good effort by the Kiwi. Will we see him at the podium?

i1150.photobucket.com/albums/o608/kumazan/Tour%20of%20Qatar/Stage%206/PCM0017_zps37ee9ee5.jpg

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/puma.png Daniele Bennati knows that Bewley is a better timetrialist, but he must give all to secure his team's goal of a GC podium. But he is 18'' slower than Fiedler, and thus 4'' slower than Bewley, so Bennati falls to the 4th place. Bad luck for the German team, whose decision of not creating a leadout train for the Italian in the fifth stage might have been decisive.

i1150.photobucket.com/albums/o608/kumazan/Tour%20of%20Qatar/Stage%206/PCM0018_zps38b26148.jpg

Turn for i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/vesuvio.png Ben Swift now. He can only afford to lose 2'' to Bewley, and they are more or less similar timetrialists, so this will be close. He loses 14'' to Fiedler, so exactly the same as Bewley, keeping thus his 2nd place, well done!

i1150.photobucket.com/albums/o608/kumazan/Tour%20of%20Qatar/Stage%206/PCM0019_zps495d4016.jpg

Only man man left to finish this Tour of Qatar, and that man is i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Pokerstars.png Tom Boonen. He's been so dominant in the first stages that he has this wrapped up thanks to the bonus second obtained then, despite not getting any in the last two, killing that way part of the emotion for today. He surely doesn't mind, as he has the time to celebrate while scoring a time 16'' slower than Fiedler's winner time. Congratulations for the Belgian, who will also take the points jersey.

The big winners from today, apart from Boonen and Fiedler, are Bewley, who finally gets a GC podium, Lo cicero, who jumps up to the 5th place, and of course the fastest timetrialists, the aforementiond Fiedler, Cancellara, Malori and Kittel, all of them gaining enough positions to end in the top 10. The young rider jersey, as previously said, is for i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/arm_zps60f3d6b6.png Ivano Lo Cicero, whose decent TT was enough to defend it. Finally, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/wig_zps5dbe18f9.png Wiggle Professional Cycling Team wins the team classification, ahead of i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/vesuvio.png Vesuvio - Accumalux and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/kng_zpsafcfbe9d.png Koenigsegg.
