Wow, 2 climbs of Alpe d'Huez? What next, climbing the Tourmalet 5 times in one day? Rolling Eyes

I love the Alpe but I think it's overused. Good to see Ventoux make a comeback.

The uphill time trial sounds brilliant Grin

Honestly not much added, there were rumours about x2 Alpe d'Huez and finish on Ventoux for quite a while ago.. anyway, if you want rumors, there's probably no better place than Velowire where these have been gathered:

well the 2 climbs up the alpe is in one stage, just climbing twice in one day. I love that Mont Ventoux is back

Any chance of putting cobbles on the new route from L'Alpe down the Col de Sarenne? Pfft

I kid, but cobbles would be nice to see in the 100th tour. Maybe some Gravel roads as well? Wink

Riders make the Tour, not the other way around. I'm not expecting anything too special as the Tour always focuses more on culture and landscape than spectacular stages.

This. They could as well change all Tour de France climbs' name to either Alpe d'Huez or Tourmalet so it gets even more repetitive. Pfft

I'd love to see that TT happening! It was my first ever proper col to climb. This would most likely be the profile.

Hard stages =/= good stages. Nothing will happen on the first climb of the Alpe, and a lot of outsiders will be too tired to do anything on the second climb of it. I personally am already thinking that this queen stage will be a massive flop.

Why is everyone assuming it'll be such a hard stage? For all we know the Alpe x2 could be all the climbing in that stage.

That wouldn't be hard? Frown I mean if it is a sort of 50km to the base, then 50km back around to the base agin then finish on top, that could be alright, a bit like the 2011 queen stage, but much more than that and I'm not so sure.

That would be a walk in the park compared to most stages featuring Alpe d'Huez in the last 15 years in the Tour.

Which is why I don't think that it will be the case next year Wink I wouldn't be surprised by one or two other tough climbs.

Same here, nice little climb.

I think I may have hit a problem here. Google Earth reckons there's only 2 ways up the mountain (the usual route up from Bourg-d'Oisans and an alternate route from Allemond)- and both paths meet up to form one road near the town of Huez. So you'll have the leaders that have already summitted going down the descent while the autobus are still climbing up. Throw in the 500,000 supporters lining the roadsides and its a recipe for disaster.

They'll use Sarenne to descend. If you know where the official finish is, just continue for 100 odd metres, then turn right and follow the road, it first heads South in the the resort, the all the way to the east, and it ends near the Chambon dam (where you can choose to either go to the Lautaret, Les-Deux-Alpes or back to Bourg-d'Oisans).
As I wrote yesterday, it's a 50 km loop, so if the stage ends on Alpe d'Huez, it'll be 64 km from the bottom of the ascent, on the first try.
They'll probably do Glandon or Croix de Fer first, or they'll be coming down from either Briançon through the Lautaret, or Télégraphe + Galibier.
