Good luck with that. Don't think they will let you ride up, even if you have a Box Hill ticket.

they'll have to catch me Pfft
(they did for the practice race)

You'll get caught. A) That section of road will probably be heavily protected as it counts as a venue.
B) The volunteers are out to stop ya Smile

Same for me, i hope for great battle between Schurter, Kulhavy (go,go) and few others. But what i am looking forward the most is, if Sagan will start at MTB and how he can do there,as there is a possibility he will be on the start. Smile
I'll be back

After performances like today, Greipel must start the Olympic RR as favourite if the German team can do for him what Lotto are doing.

Yep, although I don't know if Cav's performance today should indicate something.

I think he knew pretty soon that Sky will ride for EBH when he hit that climb, so there wasn't much point in trying to keep upi f your own team practically rides against you.

If they go head to head down the Mall at the finish, then it will be very close. And Greipel is looking in good shape to be able to make it over Box Hill.

Could see a German-British alliance to close down all other attacks, with the wildcard of Sagan a big threat aswell.

Is Matt Goss even going? I recall the road team being made up of Rogers, Evans, Gerrans and someone else, was it Goss?

Of course he is. Evans, O'Grady, Goss, Rogers, Gerrans.
Their problem could be too many captains - particularly as Goss hasnt been showing sprint winning form enough for others to be confident enough to sacrifice their own chances for him.

Just a short note to the Sagan-MTB topic:
Slovak federation sent the application earlier this year and it was confirmed, he is the only possible rider as Slovakia dont have enough points for someone else and you can automatically ride at MTB if you are doing road race.

Liquigas is also okay with it and Peter said in one interview that it would be his dream to make the big race in MTB again. Now his team is trying to settle all the details and it is still not sure if he will go, maybe they will decide after the RR.

And can he be a medal candidate? Who knows, the technical course would be perfect for him, but he had a very long break from MTB, so it could be big flop also, rather then big succes. Smile

can see the road race going the way of the worlds back in 2010 when it was in Geelong, in that a sprinter that can also climb (somewhat) will win

Is Sagan going to ride the MTB? Would have been fun.

Even agreeing, I can't see this coming to a sprint. With only five guys to a team, you'd have the equivalent to only one team doing all the chasing, and with a race as crazy as the Olympics I think they'd struggle to hold it together even if they were all riding together, as opposed to for two different squads. Obviously with the likes of Tony Martin and Wiggo doing the chasing they'll have firepower, but I have to believe something is going to stay away late. Couldn't begin to tell you who I'd bet on, but I'd definitely put my money of the field.

Also, I'd pick Cav in a sprint, assuming no one gets too massive an upper hand on the lead-out.

EDIT: Checking out the startlist, and really liking that Swiss squad. Cancellara and Albasini can make stuff happen, and Elminger, Schar, and Rast are a solid crew to set them up. Behind Germany, GB, Belgium, and Slovakia, they might be my #5 choice to pull something off, even ahead of Rojas, Valverde, and LL for Spain, Chavanel for France, and the Boom, Langeveld, Terpstra, Westra horsepower factory for the Dutch.

EDIT 2.0: My dream though, meet your new Olympic Gold Medalist, from the great nation of Belarus, Yaureni Hutarovich!!!

I'd love to see Hesjedal win, although I think coming off injury/TDF, and busy season already, I dont know if he was the best choice.

Also I dont see how Yauheni Hutarovich has any chance of winning this. Sure he's a good sprint (under-rated in my books) but hes inconsistent and as far as I know he's terrible on hills. If it comes to a sprint hes not winning.

All I really know is I want a British upset Pfft

Well, who else could they go with? Maybe Tuft would be a good replacement becuas ehe can TT, but there aren't many options.
RIP Exxon Duke, David Veilleux, Double Feature, and Monster Energy

Veilleux? Pfft

Decent sprint, decent hills, decent TT Smile

Obviously I was joking about Hutarovich.

I was looking at the US' awful team by the way, and was trying to come up with who will be riding for us four years from now. To be honest, I can't help but notice how horrid the US' future is at the moment. I mean, the golden generation is leaving (Levi, Hincapie, Horner, VDV, Danielson, etc), and although we have a few really good GT (EDIT: meant GC) prospects (TJ, Andy Talansky, and Joe Dombroski, the last having come up through the same juniors team as I did), other than that we have just about no one. The current generation of guys in their prime is pretty pathetic. Tim Duggan and Tyler Farrar are just about it. I mean, Phinney doesn't seem like he'll ever get beyond a second tier TTist and cobbles rider, and we don't have any riders coming up through the U23 ranks that seem like they have the potential to become anything more than decent. I mean, is Lawson Craddock really that good?

Here, check out our current CQ rankings:

27. Levi
39. TJ
86. Farrar
93. Horner
102. Phinney
128. Danielson
172. DZ
181. Vande Velde
190. Talansky
330. Reijnen (who says you can't rack up CQ points at the Tour of Korea)
334. Dugan
349. Hincapie
389. Stetina
495. Keough

I mean, those are the only guys in the top 500. We could be looking at multiple GT titles in the next ten years and literally nothing else. Shameful.

EDIT: I guess you could argue that other than Lemond and young Lance we've never had any great riders who weren't only GC types (depends on your feelings as to whether Big George was great or very very good, and I'd go the latter). We have had some second class sprinters (elder Phinney) and what not, but come to think of it our top riders ever are the aforementioned Lemond and Lance, plus Andy Hampsted, all GC guys. So who knows.
