Advice on buying my first race bike
Mulopeza
I am going to buy a race bike and I need some advise since its the first time I'll buy one. So here are some questions for the guys who know something about it.

1)What are good bike producers(not sure if thats the good word but I mean like Ridley)?
~Think I'll take Ridley so if you think Ridley is good what bike from Ridley. Not to expensive.
2)What kind of bike is good as first race bike(I need a name)? Not to expensive (if you know can you say the average price for that bike)
3)I'm from europe. I don't know the race bike prices in the USA but is it good if I can buy it there(if I'm already going there anyway) or is it better here? taking into account that the dollar has a low value now.
4)Any good race bike shops in USA near Lebanon (and can I have their site if they have)? And do they sell jerseys(If they do, from what teams? From SDV or Caisse?)?

I probably couldn't help you with the bike, but when you say "any good race bike shops in USA near Lebanon" do you mean Lebanaon, Pennsylvania?

Specialized Allez Elite Triple. Looks nice

Don't know yet how much it is in Belgium but I'll look. Then going to look how much in USA. I'll see whats best. This can be locked I guess.

i don't quite think it needs to be lockedWink

others can use this when seeking advise for a new bike alsoWink

and yes the bike looks very nice, it's the kind that i've had my eye on, plus i've never had a triple chain ring, so it would be cool to have onePfft

I have a good bike: Duratec Cool R8 frame (Alu with carbon fork), ritchey components, wheels Mavic CXP 21. But there's one problem: On whole bike is Dura-Ace set.......from middle 90sFrown

Cannondale os a gppd brand and the Cannondale Supersix 13 seems great.

I was going to get the Allez but my Dad's Cousin owns a bike shop so I got a Trek 2100 for cheap. I did test ride the Allez and I did like it a lot

A really good, cheap starter race bike would be a Trek 1000. It looks good, it's pretty cheap and it's perfect for new ones.

Edit: And I might add that I don't know much about it. I looked for a bike for myself 1 year ago, and back then I was told what I just told you.

If you live in Belgium, it's a country of cycling, almost all sorts of components should be available at decent prices there.
I've never been too fond of buying one special model. I guess that, unless you buy it during the bargains period, asking to a bike shop to assemble your bike from components you'd choose in a catalogue will be better and cheaper.

For a first race bike, investing between 1000 and 1500 € seems reasonnable, if you intend to take part in competitions. 600-800 would be enough if you aim to ride as a tourist.
Then, of course it depends how rich you are. Pfft

First of all...there is no state called Lebanon. There are several cities called Lebanon but which state will you be traveling to?

Second. Valor- I would be happy to take care of your mid 90's dura-ace components! Name your price and let's talk! Even though it's only 8-speed..that's the best machined sti set ever! Now everything has gone to plastic..cheaper to make, gets destroyed if you ever crash, and interestingly enough still sells at the same price..hmmm.

Third, to the original poster. How old are you? What kind of racing will you be doing? I would not recommend a triple crankset...too heavy, more things to go wrong and more costly to upgrade. I would highly recommend to buy used for a first bike. You can get a better quality bike at a fraction of the cost. No need to buy a new one..just race a used one for a couple of years..sell it and repeat until you're good enough that someone gives you a new one! Hopefully it won't take long. Be carefull on buying used though...get some advice from someone who knows something..there are some really good buys out there and a lot of crappy ones too. I'd be happy to help you out if you give me more info. I live in the US and have raced at a very high level throughout the world.

Forget about Lebanon. I'm going to buy it here.

Almost 16. I'll start on a not so high level of racing but will try to become good. And is the triple crankset so heavy? I guess I should try to test ride it. And I wanna buy a new one. Not going to buy an already used one.
So do you have any advise for me for maybe another bike so I can try to test both of those bikes and see what looks best.
