Giro del Trentino Stage 1
mb2612
Things you don't hear: I'm heading to Trentino to win the time trial

As such, very few real time triallists showwed up, Tennant and Stannard being the favourites. After that Lloret is the next favourite, as all the climbers throw in a little posturing before the real work begins tomorrow

Tennant is third off, and he sets a bench mark of 16'16"
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/trentino/trent001.jpg

Vandborg is the next TT speciallist and he pushes Tennant close, but comes in 5 seconds behind.
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/trentino/trent002.jpg

Van Aelbroeck is going well, as he almost passes Zabel at the finish, however he can only come in at +6"
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/trentino/trent003.jpg

Ovechkin is the Russians first challenger, and he goes +8"
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/trentino/trent004.jpg

Sestili has the home crowds raising their voice for the first time as he goes +6" as well
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/trentino/trent005.jpg

Tennant's lead doesn't look secure yet, and Stannard is here to try and give Rapha some peace of mind, and he gives Rapha 9 more seconds of leeway, with a 16'07"
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/trentino/trent006.jpg

Mazur tries to pick up the gauntlet Stannard just threw down, and he does pretty well, +7" and 2nd place for the pole
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/trentino/trent007.jpg

Pellizotti has the crowd in raptures as he goes round the course, although +50" is the best the Italian can do, probably cementing Duarte as leader
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/trentino/trent008.jpg

Niemiec probably has dreams of a top ten overall here, and +17" makes it a good day for the Poles.
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/trentino/trent009.jpg

Kovalev, sorry no photo, goes 3rd 8 seconds back

Efimkin is the next climb to try and stay in contention, and make a play for dual leadership, +48" makes that unlikly for him.
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/trentino/trent010.jpg

Aramendia is probably the last pure time trialler, and he comes in +9" in 4th
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/trentino/trent011.jpg

The Brazillian National Champion now tries to put himself into contention in the overall, and 6th at +14" does that.
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/trentino/trent012.jpg

How ofter do you take two photos of Brazillians in a row outside of Rio? Here's Nazaret on his way to a Time outside the top 60. it's clear which Brazillian wins today.
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/trentino/trent013.jpg

Lloret is a threat today, can he challenge Stannard? Nope +14" for the Spaniard
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/trentino/trent015.jpg

Marzano can only come in at +47" He will have to fight to get a top ten from there.
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/trentino/trent016.jpg

Lovkvist now tries his luck, +27" for the Sweedish champion
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/trentino/trent017.jpg

Eastman goes +33" that's starting to become tough to make back for the American
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/trentino/trent018.jpg

Alarcon looses alot of time today. Fully 56 seconds down, expect fireworks when the mountains kick off tomorrow.
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/trentino/trent019.jpg

Duarte will accept +16"
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/trentino/trent020.jpg

Italian Champ, Caruso is +17", exactly the same as teammate Niemiec
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/trentino/trent021.jpg

Now the Venezualan champion, as Rujano sets off. He goes +33" same as Eastman and can't be too dissapointed with that
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/trentino/trent022.jpg

Van den Broeck, goes +17"
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/trentino/trent023.jpg

Last up, and with a stupid visor, Pozzovivo, and he places himself well, +18" and only 3 seconds behind the best climbers
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/trentino/trent024.jpg

So, Rapha's strategy pays off as they take the stage, while Aker and Alarcon have a way to come back, although expect the gaps to be much bigger in the upcoming stages.
