Giro d'Italia 2010
Squire
I think only Scarponi looked stronger than Basso on the climb today. With Nibali crushing the opposition on the descents and Basso doing the same on the uphills, this could be a very good Giro for Liquigas. Kiserlovski for the white jersey as well?

This is turning out to be the best GT in years.

Basso and Scarponi looked the strongest on the climb to me. But Nibali is really in it now as well.
Expect Porte to lose 15 minutes tomorrow. His light is going out.

Great climbing by Mollema, came over the top as 8th with Cunego and Samoilau, ahead of the group Wiggins/Arroyo and co, who caught them in the downhill, and still finished 7th.

Too bad of thad stupid stage wednesday, it will be near impossible to win the white jersey unless both Kiserlovski AND Porte collapse.

There is no doubt that Liquigas is the strongest team, but then again, that was not surprising. Basso really put the hurt on the others on the climb. even Nibali looked like he gave a slight gap to Basso and Scarponi over the last 10 meters of the climb.

Basso and Scarponi were the strongest on the climb for me. Nice to see finally Evans and mainly Vinokourov in serious troubles, it's impossible to be in the best form for 6+ weeks.

It's really nice to see Mollema, Samoilau and Porte climbing that well. But whatabout tomorrow. But they all can collapse and lose 30 minutes because.. my favourite climb is coming - Monte Zoncolan.

Nibali gave it death on the descent and I hope his effort won't decrease his chances for the overall. I think we can agree Pellizotti wouldn't have made the race so spectacular. Grin
Somebody said in this thread that Evans will probably collapse in the final week and cracks are already starting to show.
I thought nobody will risk anything today, with the Zoncolan looming, but I'm happy I was wrong.
If Nibali and Basso can keep it together, Scarponi will be the only remaining threat and I really hope Nibali will win it.

Liquigas - Szmydt pulled a peloton..select group was left..
Then Nibali atacked..pieces left..Sastre droped, Vino droped, Evans in trouble,
hill top Basso move..Evans droped..Nibali in trouble.
Descent Nibali atack..amazing style and speed..
Vino who was taking hilltop with Sastre atacked at descent..and he was good.

Ergo..
at the climb Basso, Nibali, Scarponi looked as best trio

Evans was only 3 seconds back on the top though. he was only dropped over the last 50 meters.

Why compare Mollema with Porte? Mollema was minutes ahead on the climb. He kept riding in the front group when Porte was dropped at the bottom

If anyone will lose 30 minutes it's more likely to be Porte than Mollema

Maybe that's because today was the first real climb in this years' tour. I don't think he will crack in the third week, but remember he's always alone as basso and nibali have all the team behind them.

cadel always had a weak team. and vino is to old for this game, he'll be dead tomorrow and in the next week.

The Zoncalon awaits tomorrow and a bunch of very tired riders coming into it. I don't particularly fancy Wiggins for tomorrow, though Sastre for me could be a danger man. Today, he was caught in two minds to support Tondo or to go after own interests.

Cervelo more than Liquigas now need to sort their house out here. Tondo seems to have regressed over the last week, He needs to now work for Sastre, and Carlos you need to be nearer the front when it hits the pan.

Arroyo to me seemed a little too weak but should hold the jersey tomorrow he has done this one before and I would like to think the pink will inspire. He needs to take heed of Di Luca's performance here in 2007. He was dropped early but settled in a good pace - that been my reading of Arroyo's past performances. He gets dropped early but does not blow up.

Speaking of blowing up, Garzelli ouch does this mean a kamikaze attack tomorrow? Shall I be micheivous and say time to start taking a bit more of the medicine Stefano!

As for the Liquigas duo, they have got to try and break down Evans (and Vino a bit more). Nibali seems more your punchy man capable of fast bursts I would imagine they are feeling pretty good about stage 14 right now but Evans is a fighter and will be a hard nut to crack. Basso will also be away that Sastre should have his game face on tomorrow.

Vino - sorry Alexandre as much as I try I cannot cheer for you. I like many hope you suffer a million times tomorrow. Vino climbed okay after being dropped today but the of all the riders he seemed to lose the most on the descent. No gains over those behind and distanced by those ahead.

Finally, Lampre and A+S please stop doing everyone else's work, Cunego and Garzelli are only here for stage wins now.

Because Mollema never ride a Grand Tour - like Porte. For example Nibali was better than Kreuziger in mountains of Tour de France 2008 too, but then he completly cracked in Alpe d'Huez stage. Third week in every Grand Tour can do everything, escpecially with riders which never ride a Grand Tour before.

I know that, But you can't take that as a certaintity he will crack.
For example, Gesink never cracked in his first Vuelta, at age 22 Wink

Andy Schleck never cracked in his first Giro either

This is not about teams..Scarponi has no team eather.
Tomorrow is realy important day..we will see. But like most we though and isso sayed..there is doubt that Evans can keep he's Ardennes classic top form thrue the Giro

On the Zoncolan is defintively not about teams, but I'm speaking in general for this Giro. It's very difficult to win a GT without a good team in support. And yes, you're right, maybe he won't be in top form in the last week, but from this to cracking is a long way. Anyway, we'll live and see Smile

No matter what, he will still be in the back. He has always ride like that. even when he attacked in Huez, he attacked from the back.
