Blood doping increases your amount of blood (duh), and therefore increases the amounts of haemoglobin you have, therefore you can take in more oxygen and ride harder and faster

not exactly, but almost.
usually a month before the tour, you go to a mountain training camp. in the mountains the air is far thinner, therefore oxygen isn't as available. after a few days there your body naturally produces more red blood cells (the ones that carry oxygen), while the amount of blood stays the same. if you had more blood, the amount of red cells per quantity of blood would stay the same and you'd get no advantage whatsoever. this is why some south americans make great climbers. a few of them lived their entire lives at high altitude so already have a high blood cell count naturally.
then you make one extreme effort, give it all you have to maximize those cells (remember Vino winning the time trial at the Dauphine?), take out the blood that is stacked with red cells and freeze it.
the next stage, slow down because you'll be very weak (remember Vino in the mountains of the Dauphine, the day after the time trial?)
a month later, put in the blood, and voilá! you're stacked with red blood cells.
according to Jon Vaughters (slipstream manager and former US Postal/Discovery rider), that's why last year Popovych and Savoldelli got dropped on the Aubisque (curiously, today's stage finishes on the Aubisque), then the next day they "magically could follow Azevedo again". you know what surprises me about that statement by him? not the part about the discovery team being doped, but the part about Azevedo NOT being. I find that one hard to believe.
anyway, I'm getting a bit off-course. hope that explained it well.

Rabobank's Theo de Rooij says they've asked Riis if they can take a good look at CSC's anti-doping program so that they can start a similar program next year, according to eurosport.

Now they have to give some cheer for Riis work. After Riis fear and straight statemant that he used EPO in 90-s. everyone like to see him quit the job. I like Riis for his passion about cycling...ASO is more like political organization who's war against doping is more like war to get more power. |

as it turns out, Kirchen said after he came second behind Vinokourov on monday: "oficially I'm second today, but in reality I know that I've won". journalist asked him why he felt he was the true winner. he declined to answer.
this was a day before Vino's positive. |

"It's a mistake. I never doped, that's not the way I see my profession.
"I think it's a mistake in part due to my crash. I have spoken to the team doctors who had a hypothesis that there was an enormous amount of blood in my thighs, which could have led to my positive test. |

That is quite possibly the worst excuse I've ever heard - having too much blood does not alter the fact that you've got two different person's blood in you
