according to the radio today, they had to grant a fourth wildcard or risk getting sued, since the Relax representatives claim to have "strong evidence" that the organisers were payed off so they'd invite Karpin-Galicia.

this edition of the Vuelta starts in Galicia

so, the wildcards again (they had previously been announced in early May):

Astana
Andalucia-Cajasur
Karpin-Galicia
Relax-Fuenlabrada

This is all come together and make a nice picture about Spanish cycling.

A Swiss lab has said that just 25 % of this year's TdF peloton was doped which is an improvement compared the last couple of years. Actually, it's the cleanest bunch of riders since 2001.
Also, to compare, back in 1996 when they started their testing, 80 % of the peloton was doped.

They also mention that the amount of dopers are higher in La Vuelta, and that the Operacion Puerto case has had a deterrent effect.

Their testing is based on some stuff I have no idea about, but their results sound reasonable.

25% sounds like a lot. If that was the case wouldn't there have been more press on even more dopers? Instead, Moreni, Vino, Mayo.

That's for the Transfer Time thread, Crommy.

Levi: Those caught doesn't necessarily mean they were the only ones. And, well, I mean. Moreni was doped, and he was only placed as number 58 when he was thrown out Wink

- On Thursday, T-Mobile decides if it wants to continue its sponsorship

- The public prosecutor has ended his investigation in the Di Luca-case. He didn't find any reason to open a case against him. There's only one investigation left until Di Luca is cleared.

- WADA has started an investigation into Contador's involvement in Operation Puerto. Bruyneel has reacted in an angry way, saying it's all Werner Franke's fault.

the organisers of the Deutschland Tour have excluded Elk Haus-Simplon.

their reasons:

- they sent a fax stating their riders for the event, instead of using an official form that the UCI provides, plus they sent it only a few days ago when they should have sent it in 20 days before the race at the latest.

- they didn't sign the UCI code of ethics.

- Skoda will continue its sponsorship at Astana

- CRAFT has decided to end its sponsorship with Astana Pfft

- CSC has decided not to sue Jacksche (surprise, surprise)

at this point I would usually say to myself "I will never buy a Skoda". but honestly, does anyone buy Skodas?

what do you call a Skoda on top of a hill?

a miracle

The teams which have participed in the last TdF, I think. At least, Skoda is the sponsor of the competition, but I don't know if the teams buy the cars or if Skoda gives the cars to the teams just to provide some advertising.

the UCI did a sort of raid on the Volta a Portugal this morning after the organisers requested it.

56 (yes, that's right, fifty-six!!) riders were tested at the early hours of this morning.

all were found clean.

Contador is not welcome in the PT-race Hamburg Cyclassics due to his involvement in Operation Puerto.

Finally some consequences for him. WADA has started an investigation, and he's not welcome in a PT-race.

This was kind of expected. When Conta won this year's Tour, I clearly made a statement inside my head: ''Congratz Alberto, you've won the Tour de France. Sorry Alberto, you've won this year's Tour de France''. It was kind of expected that he'd be persecuted by envious media from countries which have been hit by a process started here. Those Germans think they're true, but everyone still thinks Contador's innocence cannot be respected, and everyone still has no interest in what Fuentes said: ''I haven't ever spoken to [Alberto] Contador or [Vicente, now retired] Ballester''.

I dont think they should make such decisions without having solid evidence that he was totally involved with Puerto or has he been fully involved with evidence that he has been talking with him...

the least I can say is that this is annoying.

shows the lack of unity. right now we have two settings for measures. so there is a lot of suspicion on Contador, that's not the point.

point is:

either he can't ride any races, or he can ride them all. but having the higher authority say he can race and supposed subordinates not allowing him to just screams lack of a command structure.

nobody is in charge here. if there's evidence, prosecute him. if not, let him ride. in my book, all the suspicion is not fact no matter how credible all the team directors and journalists are.

but having separate judgements coming from different official entities is neither organized nor efficient. not to mention what it does to the credibility of the sport.

sorry if that's a rant, but I'm bored out of my wits with this Volta stage right now.
