What means: no more confrontation between them and Unipublic due to the Germany Tour using the same dates... |

MORE than 10 years since the closure of the Saffron Lane track in Leicester, the city looks set to have a velodrome once again after plans for a new complex near the Beaumont Leys Leisure Centre were unveiled.
The complex will include many sports including motorbike speedway, five-a-side football and a national standard BMX track, but the cycle track is planned to be of sufficient standard that British Cycling have already pledged to move its regional office to the site once up and running.
Gary Coltman, the Leicestershire resident who won eight national track titles in the days when the national championship was held at Saffron Lane, said: “At a time when cycling is a leading Olympic sport and Great Britain is the world's number one track cycling nation, there hasn't been a better time to replace the famous facility.
“It was not only home to track cycling in the UK but also provided many great opportunities to the residents of Leicester to engage with a great sport that provides multiple benefits in terms of health and wellbeing and sustainable transport in addition to the performance side of the sport.”
“Participation in cycling has risen by an incredible 40 per cent over the last 12 months; it is very much a growing sport and with BMX now in the Olympics it is simply a great time to build a facility that houses both track and BMX.
“Geographically it is perfect with great transport links for visitors from across the region as well as being situated very close to the National Cycle Network and providing opportunities for other types of cycling at the complex.”

random thought:
has anyone heard anything about the Setmana Catalana? or is it gone for good? I've been hoping they'd overcome the financial troubles, but since I haven't heard anything for a while, I guess nothing's up and it's definitely dead.

The Esport Ciclista Barcelona decided not to host the race anymore. They're keeping the Escalada a Montjuic, though.
I remember it as a really, really great stagerace. Last edition's mountain stage at Pal was won by a certain TdF-winner... |

I liked the race a lot, that's why I'm asking.

funny you should mention him. notice what I found while searching for data:
for the non-spanish speakers: apparently, Alberto has been branded as fit by the doctors who have been attending him since he deceased at the Vuelta a Burgos

Not very surprisingly, UCI has said that many are still using EPO. However, the riders / doctors have become better at keeping the values down, so it doesn't end up in a positive test. UCI are seeing many riders with too high values, but unfortunately, the tests can't be counted as positive.
Instead, they are trying to test the suspicious riders more often (= Men in Black )
And if anyone were wondering, it's still undecided if Andy Schleck will ride Le Tour next year. Kim Andersen said that he'd love to bring Schleck to the Tour, but Schleck himself says that he wouldn't mind waiting a year. He's ultimate dream, though, is to win Tour de France.

that's what the blood profilling is going to be introduced for.
if it's done properly, there's two ways this can go:
- rider is caught
- rider is on EPO all the time and as such dies of heart failure

3. several sports have teams presenting online gambling advertisements in France and there's never been any polemics before Unibet joined the ProTour.
4. ASO had no problem inviting Unibet.com and it's predecessor MrBookMaker.com for several of it's events for years, until Unibet joined the ProTour. 3 is wrong. Absolutely wrong.
It's all linked to football. In the beginning of the 2006-2007 season, many French football teams, from the first two leagues, were being sponsorised by online gambling companies. About 15 teams I think.
That annoyed the Française des Jeux (the company, not the cycling team), because it has a monopoly on sports gambling in France (together with PMU for horse races gambling). So, lawyers started investigating the laws and various codes about this, and about one year ago, all online gambling companies had to stop sponsorising those football teams.
As Unibet.com was one of those, it was then questionned whether they should be allowed to appear in races as a cycling team sponsor. Answer was no.
Had the football teams never been sponsorised by those companies, nobody would have cared about a unibet.com cycling team in France (though it would have been illegal).
About letting them race as "canyon.com" or "question mark team", that's almost a better advertisement than letting them race as "unibet.com", which is why they were refused. |

But it's still not illegal if they ride under the name of Canyon.com. You can't deny that - it would be perfectly legal.
Besides, if AC Milan were to play a match in France I'm 100 % sure they would be allowed to despite them having a gambling sponsor. |

I can accept the first point, and I'm embarrassed how I forgot that.
but there is no way I buy the sorry excuse that is the last one.

This would never had happen if ASO had been perfectly happy with the Pro Tour concept. Then Unibet.com would have been allowed to ride as Canyon.com.

the real question is whether they'll be allowed to ride next season under their supposed new sponsor or if ASO are going to come back with their "not good enough to be invited" excuse and instead invite Bouyges or such

Bouygues will be invited, because of their nationality, it's not lousy, it's the way it works with GT.
Unibet.com vanishes those days anyway, or am I mistaking ? |

I disagree. it's how it works with the Tour de France. aside from Unibet, the best teams that apply get invited for the Giro and Vuelta. want an example? Benfica have confirmed they've got an agreement to participate in the Vuelta next year. are they spanish?

they said a few weeks ago they had a new and bigger sponsor lined up, and very few riders are being signed by other teams (that would ordinarily be jumping at the chance to sign a lot of the team's riders). but since then, nothing's been announced.

Actually, there's a interview with the team manager in La Dernière Heure. There he says that he has found a new sponsor for the next season. Currently, he's waiting for UCI to tell him if the team will be Pro Tour or Pro Continental. When that's done he will tell more about the team. |

Will any Spanish team stronger than Benfica be left out (unless a scandal happens about that team, or somthing like that) ? No, of course no.
And no, they're not Spanish, they're Portugese, "their" Grand Tour is la Vuelta (if they had to pick only one, it'd be that one). |

It was in my newspapaer this morning that Jaques Hanegraaf will most likley continue in the pro tour with another sponsor. the sponsor deal is there as soon as the UCI confirmed they will be pro tour. which they will because not unibet, but Hanegraaf got the PT licence for the next 4 years.
so 90% chance they will continue I'd say.
Allso he said a lot of riders applyed for a place in the team allready |
