for today's stage I'm keeping the prediction I did a week ago: break or bunch sprint. no successful attacks.

There was a mass crash in the peloton with 17 riders down. |

stage winner: Pablo Lastras. the rest of the break comes in right behind with Maarten Tjallingi, Sebastian Hinault, Steven Caethoven and some CSC guy
EDIT: that's Anders Lund
peloton a few seconds behind. small peloton...very reduced
seems like Cavendish has the points jersey all for himself. Dekker should be the new leader...but he also crashed, so how well he'll do tomorrow is an enigma.
that ups the chances of Gutierrez, Hoste, Millar.

According to cyclingnews Lund and Caethoven are in the top 3 overall - is that just cause of their break? Or did Millar/Gutierrez/Hoste lose time on Dekker.

The GC is as below at the moment, so it must have been an error by cyclingnews
1 Thomas Dekker Rabobank 25.28'48
2 José Ivan Gutierrez Palacios Caisse d'Epargne +4
3 David Millar Saunier Duval - Prodir +6
4 Jurgen Van Den Broeck Predictor-Lotto +15
5 Leif Hoste Predictor-Lotto +27
6 Leon Van Bon Rabobank +31
7 Bram Tankink Quick Step - Innergetic +38
8 Paul Martens Skil Shimano +39
9 Piet Rooijakkers Skil Shimano +40
10 Juan Antonio Flecha Giannoni Rabobank +40

Gutierrez will probably be his biggest threat

Even if Nuyens didn't crash, Dekker would win it. I think Dekker and Millar will fight for victorie. But I think will be Dekker the winner

Nuyens was never going to win.
Currently at the finish, the leader is Raivis Belohvosckis 37'19. 2nd is Steven Cummings at 37'55!
Im not sure when Millar, Gutierrez and Dekker start though

But we shouldn't forget that Dekker is a very good time triallist himself. |

Millar, Gutierrez and Dekker are among the first, so they will start in last. Time trials (except prologues) are usually done in a descendant order, i.e., the last in the classification is first to go, and the first is the last to go.

Okay Quinziato is actually leading by 9 secs ove the Latvian.
Leif Hoste starts in around 40 minutes, Millar 46 minutes, Gutierrez 48 and Dekker 50 mins.
Dan, I know how TTs work (DUH!) i just didnt know when they actually began timewise, thats what I meant. I obviously know now tho.

Dekker's injury is probably too serious for him to do anything, but never discount him.
aside from that, Hoste is too far back, and Gutierrez is off form. Given Gutierrez's quality and characteristics, if he was in form, he'd have won stage 1 with one hand tied behind his back. so I'm looking at Millar for the overall.

i knew Deker is a very good TT'is but for some reason thought today was a hilly stage not TT *embarrased*
i think Millar could pull it off and Dekker's fall yesterday could well hinder him
