YORKSHIRE BORN, YORKSHIRE BRED...

Crommy
A very good song (from the vodafone adverts I know, but much better in full) is the Polyphonic Spree, Light and Day:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQAvfl...QAvflPexng

They are a group of 24 (that's right, a band of 24!!!) who all dress up in kinda monk clothes, and are absolutely great, real joyful music GrinGrinGrin

I'm a huuuuuge fan of Gin Blossoms, and I even went to USA in November, 2006 primarily to attend a Gin Blossoms concert. So, naturally, their songs will always top my top 5 list. However, as said by some of the others, it's difficult to name 5 songs. 5 albums would be much easier.

Anyway, I'll give it a try anyway:

1. Gin Blossoms - Found Out About You
A song which means a lot to me personally. In some way describes my first "love" Wink

2. Gin Blossoms - Come On Hard
In 2006, Gin Blossoms sent out their first album in almost 10 years. I must admit that I had expected them to have lost their "sound", their tune. I mean, a lot has changed in 10 years, but when I got the album I immediately realized that they were back with yet another fantastic album, hanging on to the GB traditions. This song is from the new album, and it's just so unbelieveably good.

3. Gin Blossoms - Follow You Down
Once again a personal song, describing a lot that I can relate to.

4. Gavin DeGraw - Follow Through
Yes, it's weird how Gavin suddenly managed to get on this list, but I love his album, and that song is really, really good -- both lyrically and musically.

5. Big Fat Snake - Never Had It So Good
As far as I remember, it's only a cover song, but that doesn't make it less good. Big Fat Snake is a Danish band which has released about 10 CDs. They are known as "Denmark's best live band", and yes, it's true. They have made lots of great songs, but it's this cover of "Never Had It So Good" I like the most.

5. Gary Jules- Mad World

4. Metallica- Nothing else Matters

3. Coldplay- Clocks

2. The waterboys. The whole of the moon

1. Evanesence- My Immortal

one word: brilliant...as long as you pay attention to the lyrics.

samtheman
I actually took quite some time choosing which song from Rammstein to put on my list, as I wanted only one song from each band. Sonne, Sehnsucht, Feuer Frei and Seemann are just as good

Levi4life
I would have gone with Freuer Frei

I'll try never to think of this post after this, because there are an enormous amount of songs missing here and I'll just want to keep coming back and change this

if it were best albums ever (in my modest opinion, of course)
songs?
well...it's hard

in no particular order:

Tool - Parabol/Parabola
two tracks, but one song. this album is fabulous from start to finish. the way it all fuses as one feeling an yet so many is fabulous. no wonder it took 5 years of intense work to make.

Dream Theater - Home
see the above song

Primitive Reason - Seven Fingered Friend
completely different from all the others. indulges my softer side.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bgV003...ed&search=

Dire Straits - Sultans of Swing
classic. for some reason it's in here

Porcupine Tree - Anesthetize

in all honesty, you can't really expect your mate to be as good as Mark Knopfler Smile

Well it probably wouldn't take much to match Mark Knoppfler ability to sing. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy Dire Straits having, On every street and Brothers in Arms as part of my collection but i'd put his singing capability in the same league as that of Bob Dylan and possibly Roger Waters. Still - they all produce pretty damn fine music and i'd love to have the talent of any of them.
When I die, I want to go peacefully in my sleep like my grandfather, not screaming in terror like his passengers.

I was speaking of his guitar skills. his singing....well....let's say it doesn't hurt the music. just doesn't do anything for it.
