I think Danielson or Devolder whould be much better then Noval
And Rubiera instead of Vaiktus one more climber on the team more chances of levi to do something
they said it wouldnt be fair to the other riders to put in danielson, when he was only going to be in if he did well in catalunya and the dauphine. (he pulled out of both with stomach problems)
and i dont think devolder really wanted to do the tour. i think he probably wanted to spread his season goals out more, so he could peak more effectively for both. |

my main gripe is that they didn't pick someone to relay on the flat. the kind of work that , for instance, T-Mobile's Grabsch does incredibly well. riding very fast for very long.
Gusev has a lot of power, and if defending the jersey Vaitkus is nice too. |

Still I woudn't put vaiktus in the Tdf squad robiera by far better another name that i didn't saw was brajkovic and danielson i think above his illness he would be better then noval
Yes same here...are Danielson and Brjakovic go for Vuelta again?
Devolder should have more spoken rider..he can keep up high pace on the mountains almost thrue the end (about 15 last man).
I like also Contador climbing style...piti that we dont see nice white jersey battle with Andy this year.
Popo again...this guy need change his plans (will be another big dissapoitment)...If I had he's manager I would recomend to him change a team...he doest seems find himself a place in new Discovery. |

chechu i believe is trying to do the giro vuelta double this year and while vaitkus is no padrnos he can still take a relay on the flat and don't forget about hincapie ... him in the tour of california was quite amazing. danielson would have been a poor choice considering the stomach problems and most likely a lack of form. |

Yah Guido, you raise some good points. They keep talking about Popovich as a "future GC contender" but the key word in that phrase is, "future", as in, "the future is never going to get here". Again, this year he'll be the key lieutenant to Leipheimer. I do think that he needs to move on to another team where he can be the star, if he's got the talent that is.
Also, is it just me or doesn't Contador seem to be a natural fit for the Vuelta? Again, my thinking is influenced by PCM where Contador just rolls over people in the Vuelta (I won the Vuelta with him on Hard mode with ease). But I should think that Disco should save him so that he can be in peak shape for the Vuelta.
finally, I'm a bit perplexed about the skepticism in this thread about Valverde. Why shouldn't he be one of the main favorites to win? All the tak is about Vinokourov and Astana but I should think that Valverde definitely has a shot at it, as long as he can finish the race . Well, and as long as he can START the race given all the doping scandals looming around. |

I think someone like devolder should be picked instead of Popovich. Id send Popo into something like the vuelta. If he wins then they can say he has won a GC, If he loses then while your in spain you could ship him to Euskatel

Sincerely i don't think popo can win a great tour if he rides like now and thinking just about the money that he gets in his account

the problem with Popovich, I feel is this:
he is a fantastic all-rounder. a jack of all trades and master of none. he is NOT a climber. remember Jalabert? similar, only lower quality.
he wants to become a GC rider because that is where the glory is. he'll never be good enough to win a grand tour. maybe one by chance, but not given the current competition.
too bad. he could've been a great classics rider. instead he doesn't even ride the cobbled classics.

about Devolder not being there, a small extract from a cyclingnews interview:
Discovery Channel's team director Dirk Demol, who tried to convince his compatriot to start in la Grande Boucle even though Devolder's program didn't originally include the Tour de France. Instead, Devolder preferred to aim for the Vuelta a Espana.
"I insisted a little longer but we decided to support his plans," said Demol. "Stijn prefers to be a protected rider in Spain rather than working as a domestique in the Tour de France. By supporting his plans, we want to show our confidence in him," Demol said to Cyclingnews.
