It's now officially confirmed that Bruyneel and Contador are going to Astana. Leipheimer will also join, IF the team stays in the Pro Tour.

As rumours, Marca reported that Contador will bring Noval and Paulinho with him, too.

it'll stay in the ProTour, I'm not doubting that. Leipheimer signing is a surprise, and a very low mark in his reputation.

as for the others, it's what I'd expect from them.

I was debating with myself were to put this but I think that since it is news it should go here.

Vuelta rates behind Burkina Fasso
Times are tough for the Vuelta a España. This year's top-heavy course, with all the decisive stages packed in the first 10 days, seemed to take the life out of the season's final grand tour. TV ratings dipped below 1 million viewers per day for the first time.

It seems fans all across Europe have lost interest, as well. According to a reader's poll on Eurosport's web page, the Vuelta doesn't rate, at least among the mostly French readers of a recent online poll.

A poll asked what race was most important behind the Tour de France, offering the Giro d'Italia, the Vuelta and the Tour of Burkina Faso. Some 1,600 readers offered their opinion in the unscientific poll, placing the Giro second with 51 percent and Burkina Faso third with 28 percent. The Vuelta could only manage 21 percent.

Uhm, that's not good. But with Menchov's dominance, I guess it was somewhat expected. The route wasn't difficult enough either.

yup. since teams for some reason didn't feel like putting anything other than water carriers on breakaways, the idea of making a course hard to defend a lead in, went down the drain.

let's hope the Anglirú will be back next year. Cordero said the only reason it wasn't in this edition was because it didn't fit with the route but that they really want it for next year...

No satisfactory agreement concluded

Back from Astana, Marc Biver, general manager of the Astana Cycling Team, did not manage to find a satisfactory agreement with the Cycling Kazakh Federation for the modifications to be made to the current Astana Cycling Team.

In addition, it is to be specified that Mr Biver returned right on form from Kazakhstan. He was not victim of a cardiac incident as certain completely unfounded rumours let hear.

wasn't he pissed when someone suggested it on the cya-forum? Pfft

then again, I've always doubted whether anyone other than team leaders were doped under Bruyneel. but Beltran, Rubiera, Paulinho, Vaitkus, etc. make think otherwise.

Yeah, he reacted like that was totally out of the question.

Anyway, this is a good thing. I can't help thinking that it's a 100 % confession that Team Discovery Channel is / was a bunch of dopers who will now continue their activities on a real doping team.

but where'd you see that all those guys are signing for Astana? all I read was Contador saying Noval and Paulinho wanted to go with him...

heh...and to think I kept arguing that Contador wasn't stupid, he'd never do something as idiotic as signing for Astana...I can't help laugh at that..

Give some credit to Disco, if you think they doped, they dodged the system perfectly, compared to a team like Astana.

Grin That's right - well done.

I don't think it's that difficult, though. I just think the Astana people were unbelieveably stupid.

You just need to think how some teams are one step ahead of the competition. First was the EPO, when it become traceable went the bloodbags, and when this became easily traceable now there's DYNEPO, which is already traceable according to some sources. Next in line can be some other high end product or genetic doping.
