I had a similar problem the 3 times I went. with my accent I can't convince anyone I'm not american
"c'mon, admit it. we don't really hate americans, you can say what you are"
no really, I'm portuguese
"portuguese have accents. we know you're american. there's no shame in it"
also, I have the most impossible first name to pronounce
"hey Jo...uh...j....uhh...ja....uhhh"
"just call me jack "

according to a Deloitte&Touche study, the toughest european languages are polish because of the insane consonant combinations that aren't found in other languages
and portuguese because nearly every verb is irregular
EDIT: oh yes, and finnish is supposed to be the easiest. makes sense. from what I've heard of finnish, it al sounds the same, and since every finnish person sounds exactly the same when speaking english, I suppose it does make sense.
the justification they gave was that save rare exceptions, in finnish a certain letter ALWAYS has the same sound.
I speak finish...it's nice to speak if you got it...Btw. If you hear finish and got a feeling that sound strange...same feeling had also Tolkien..and voila we get elf language. |
