I've just thought up a very interesting concept, and would like to hear your views on it.
Say that a team manager encourages a team to dope, and say these riders are willing to. Then the team manager, instead of giving them real dope, gives them placebos instead. Due to the nature of the human mind, the body will then produce some of the effects which the dope would have given.
Therefore, this rider has the enhanced effects of doping, and therefore the benefits, without actually doping. Then, if he was tested, the results may be over the limits, but still he hasn't doped, and yet has he? He's not taken the drug, but has the benefits, and therefore gets the ban

So what do you think? Am I just waffling on and this is already dealt with in the rules of cycling? Do you think this is paramount to doping? Or is this not doping, but just a different way to maximise performance naturally?

Your thoughts please Wink

well firstly this is not the topic for this kind of question (i expected better of you CrommyPfft)

i think they would perform best with the actual drugs but the placebo's i think they will be mentally confident and will improve their perfomance but not as much as actually taking the drugs

That's not what I'm asking. I know a placebo won't have the same effect as the dope - but is using a placebo as good as doping?

And I'm covered in shame that it's in the wrong thread, I just couldn't be bothered to create a new one - this one seemed slightly relevant to me Sad

let's put it this way:

in the european union, 62% of what you're sold in pharmacies are placebos (shocking but true). is that as good as fraud?

Addy291
yes, i think

But is it fraud - given it is a placebo, it will probably cause the person taking it to receive some benefits, so it is still fraud? The beneficial effects are there, but it isn't a drug that should work. Confusing, isn't it Wink

exactly what I was aiming at. I'll try to be more explicit in the future.
