Arsenal are reported to be very close to 12mil. signing of Olivier Giroud, that would be focking fantastic.Smile Dont know if it means Robin is going out, but with Podolski and Giuroud, it would not be such a tragedy than...

Gunners fan Avin? Great! Grin

I hope Van Persie stays, I could see him tandem with Podolski to form a great duo for Arsenal!

Just finished reading the excellent book "Pay as you play", basically a financial analysis of the transfers in the Premier League since it started in 1992

The thing that really stuck with me was that all the Wenger myths are false:

1. He fields younger teams. He doesn't. His teams' average age is higher than the league average. He gets that reputation from playing the players in meaningless league cup games

2. He makes a profit in the transfer market. He doesn't. It seems like he does if you just add up the fees, but if you account for the inflation of transfer fees (the same player cost now over triple the fee that he costed when Wenger took charge), he has made a transfer market LOSS of around €27.4 Million

3. He makes great teams on the cheap.
He doesn't. Take the total fees that the players on each team were bought for, adjust them for inflation, and calculate the average amount of money the players on the team cost for each championship point earned, and Wenger's teams were ludicrously expensive.....until 2005 when they became much cheaper and he stopped winning. Only Abramovich's Chelski megamillion superstar teams were more expensive, and in occasional seasons the Man Utd squad or Newcastle ( )

In other words, Wenger will get you a great team who plays brilliant football....but unless he has absurd amounts of money to buy star players with, he won't actually win anything

Why do I mention this? Because Wenger has just made the hilarious claim to the media that rich teams are poaching his players

Isso are you a politician?Smile
Because you are one of the best i have ever seens in putting his own claims to apper as being thruth, meanwhile they have true basics but the rest is your own construction or a bit twisted facts...and that book probably added to that with one-sided attitude.

You are right wit the loss he made during all that years, but if we had comparsion with another clubs in PL they would have hundreds of millions of loss, because 27,4 loss on players trades is nothing i think, when for example Barca has loss of more than 100 millions only during era of Guardiola.

And it is true Wenger had some bad buys, everyone has (Jeffers i just LOL), but he has so many great buys that this is easily forgotten.

Before 2005 Arsenal was splashing the cash much more and they were enormously successful, now they stoped also because of building the new stadium which is very very costly. But give Wenger some money and he will make you the team of champions, look at how many great young players he developed.

And you thing rich teams poaching Arsenal players is not true? Do you know these names who left Arsenal because of better payment anywhere and even often sitting on the bench there?
A.Cole, Toure, Gallas, Adebayor, Nasri, Fabregas
These all were poached or demnded payment that was ridicolous so they left to the teams that support ridicolous wages (Man city, Barca,Chelsea).

He was speaking about Wenger saying that other teams poach their players and that is right, i dont see what you dont like on it, i was reffering to his second to last sentence...

And i was not looking for flaws, just pointing out some facts that isso cleverly jumped over. That is why i am joking with word politician, because they are always speaking about what they exactly want, overlooking the details that speak against their truth with intence. I respect isso, from what i read here on the site, he is very smart person and smart people know how tu put the facts Wink

For example isso stated this: 1. He fields younger teams. He doesn't. His teams' average age is higher than the league average. He gets that reputation from playing the players in meaningless league cup games

And it is not true, or it maybe was someday, but last season they had 4th lowest average age with starting lineup. So isso is maybe talking about years around 2000 but he does not say it smartly enough, so it looks like it fits now also...

And the rest of the information is similar arguable but i dont have all day to disscuss it.

Still it's very ironic to have Wenger complaining about that, when himself is very prone to plundering French teams or French youngsters teams, who don't have the financial power to retain their talents.
I guess now he knows what it feels like.

Thierry Henry: profit 5.6 mil. pounds and best Arsenal player ever.

Samir Nasri: 6.2 mil. pounds profit during three years.

Gael Clichy: 6.75 mil. pounds profit, bought for 250k.

Patrick Vieira: 10.2 mil. pounds profit and rock solid midfielder who brought success bought just for 3.5mil.

Kolo Touré: 15.85 mil. pounds profit, bought for 150k.

Adebayor: 18 mil. pounds profit in three years.

Marc Overmars: 18 mil. pounds profit in three years.

Nicolas Anelka: 22.5 mil. pounds profit in just 2!! years in the club. Bought for 500k.

Fabregas: 32.75 mil. pounds profit to silly Barcelona who did not see his potential and sold him to Arsenal for 3 mil. to bring him later for ten times as much.

Sure there should be some inflation considered, but i woul like to see manager who make similar profits from the players. I think you numbers concerning his overall loss are bad, because he made around 130mil. pounds profit just on these 9 players...Smile

Hmm, I wouldn't be too euphoric about him. He still has to prove what he's worth on a higher level. I don't know too much about him but when he was linked to Bayern Munich, I followed the discussion and most people, especially those who have some knowledge about the French league, said that he was a bit overrated, a Gomez kind of player but not nearly that good. I mean, with all due respect, but he was successful in the French league, which is not the olymp of football.

But that's exactly what Arsenal needs Smile Gomze kind of player.

If you watched Arsenal last year, they create chances. A lot of them. But they couldn't finish most of them in matches. ( even with RvP ) With Giroud they will have a poacher, and that's what Arsenal really needed. RvP if stays also will have more rest with him and Poldi, and that will keep him playing well the whole season ( even better than last year ).

For Arsneal, he's a really good signing. Now they need to strengthen their defence and they will be okay Pfft

But I agree he has to prove his worth. He might turn out like another Chamakh

No not Giroud Sad We don't need another Chamakh. Why don't we buy a midfielder.

Dont worry, if the things will go right, MVila will be on his way to be the gooner too and we will be complete Wink
I agree with Alakagom, Giroud and Podolski are both players which Arsenal needs, if RvP will stay he will have more freedom to play the shadow striker.
And we need someone who can head the ball obviously,as Chamakh is just a clown, who needs to be sold. I hope Giroud will live up to expectations, good luck to him!

But the biggest win is that it seems Arsenal changed their policy a bit and are not waiting for the last possible moment to buy someone.
