Who will win the Vuelta?
Results after Stage 21
This year's route is very exciting. The Vuelta starts with a team time trial in Pamplona, and finishes in a flat stage to Madrid. There are a lot of tough climbs, even in the first week, so there will be plenty of action. The sprinters will have few opportunities for stage wins, so there won't be many succesful breakaways on the flat stages. The queen's stage is stage 16, with a finish on the Cuitu Negru, at an altitude of 1890m, with a maximum percentage of 25%!

Hello!
Yes, that's right! We, Andalucía, again recieved a wildcard for the beautiful Vuelta!
We will be sending our strongest possible squad, here it is:
As you can see, the experienced Adrián Palomares will be our leader. Normally he would try to get in the breakaways, but this year he will try to do a ride a good GC. Juan José Lobato will try to stay in the wheel of top sprinters so he may get a few top 10's. Our free elements will attack a lot, so expect to see them a lot on your TV! The others will just protect the leaders, supply water and perhaps help chasing a breakaway, if we failed to get in it.
We have a few hard goals here, but we will do everything to statisfy our sponsors!
Get a stage win
Wear KOTM jersey, Top 20 GC
Top 10 in a mass sprint, Beat Caja Rural in TTT, Beat Caja Rural in team classification

This year's Vuelta has an incredibly strong startlist:
Alberto Contador (STB), winner of the 2008 edition, who is back from 8 months of training, wants to prove he is still the best. Chris Froome (SKY) and Joaquín Rodríguez might be the ones to stop him: Rodríguez finished second in the Giro, Froome did this in the Tour, so they both want to win their first Grand Tour ever. But there are many outsiders. For example the Rabobank boys, Robert Gesink and Bauke Mollema. Movistar brings two strong riders too: Alejandro Valverde, winner of the 2009 edition, and Juan Jose Cobo, winner of last year's edition. The Belgians Thomas De Gendt (VCD) and Jurgen Van den Broek (LTB) shouldn't be underestimated either. Igor Antón (EUS) will be proud the Vuelta goes through the Basque country, and will try to perform as best as possible. The Irishman Nicolas Roche (ALM) and Rigoberto Urán (SKY) will be there in case the leaders have bad luck. Same goes for America's next star, Andrew Talansky (GRS).
The sprinters on this year's startlist are a big contrast to that of the GC-contenders. The big stars decided not to ride the Vuelta, but we should not complain, because there are still some fast guys here. John Degenkolb (ARG) has the biggest chance to win stages, but Ben Swift (SKY), Daniele Bennati (RSH), Elia Viviani (LIQ), José Joaquín Rojas (MOV), Allan Davis (OGE) and Nacer Bouhanni (FDJ) will try to beat him.

Stage 1 is a team time trial through the streets of the beautiful city of Pamplona, in Northern Spain.
Our goal is to beat the other Spanish team that entered the race through a wildcard. It will be tough, be we are gonna do our best!
Favorites: Garmin - Sharp, RadioShack - Nissan - Trek, Movistar Team, Sky Procycling, Omega-Pharma Quickstep Cycling Team
Caja Rural was the first team to start today. They set what looked like a tough time to beat for us, 21'56.
Just after Caja Rural started, Orica-GreenEdge took off. They set a new best time, 13 seconds faster than Caja Rural, 21'43
Garmin-Sharp, one of the favorites for today, smashed the time set by GreenEdge. They were 22 seconds faster, 21'21
When everybody thought this would be the time to beat, RadioShack came by. And how! New best time, 21'12
We knew we wouldn't even come close to that, we would just focus on beating Caja Rural's time (currently last). At the intermediate checkpoint, we were 2 seconds behind. But then our time trialist, Gustavo, set a really high pace. Was it enough? Yes! We beat Caja Rural by 6 seconds! Provisional second last, but we are very happy! 21'50
After us, Rabobank started. They were provisional first at the intermediate checkpoint, by 2 seconds. And they finished it! The Dutch bankers team beat RadioShack by 3 seconds, who would have expected that?! 21'09
The last ones to start were Movistar. None of the favorites were able to beat Rabobank so far. Same goes for Movistar, 21'15

Stage 2 will lead the riders to Viana. The stage is 181KM long, and is classified as a flat stage, but after 77KM, there is a tough climb of the 3rd category, the Alto de la Chapela. We will try to get in the breakaway and make sure we wear the mountain jersey tomorrow.
Favorites: John Degenkolb, José Joaquín Rojas, Ben Swift
178KM to go - We thought it would be great for our sponsor if we were the first team to attack in this Vuelta. The honor was to Gustavo César Veloso.
122KM to go
120KM to go - Gustavo was joined by M.Garcia (CJR), Gasparotto (AST), Buffaz (COF) and Gerdemann (RNT).
104KM to go - Gustavo attacked early and won the mountain sprint! Gasparotto was 2nd and Buffaz 3rd.
19KM to go
9KM to go - The break still had 48 seconds advantage over the peloton, so Gustavo decided to go. Gerdemann followed.
5KM to go - When Gustavo passed the 5KM banner, he was all alone, the peloton 34 seconds behind. Will he make it?
0KM to go - YES! GUSTAVO DOES IT! He finishes 22 seconds in front of the peloton, which means he will wear the red jersey tomorrow! Unbelievable!
