Hi guys, I do follow cycling for a year now and I want to know the best cycling mOment ever. And also why it is the best cycling moment. My favourite moment (which I've seen on YouTube) is Vinokourov winning on the Champs Elysees. What is your favourite moment, and why? Share it!

Apart from Hesjedal's Giro win:

I really liked Sastres winning move in 2008 TDF.
Gilberts Triple

I am pretty new to cycling compared to many, so my memory only really begins from 2008.

I also liked the Epic Cobble stage in the Tour 2010, I think it was Stage 4.

Jacky Durand winning the 1992 RvV? Pfft

Can't think of anything really obvious off the top of my head. 2010 Giro was pretty entertaining. But when it comes to specific moments... sheesh there have been so many amazing mountain duels, crowning one as the best ever is almost impossible.

The Cavendish-Renshaw 1-2 on the Champs-Elysees!

Oh and Contador's attack in that same Tour on Verbier remains memorable too Smile

Here we go, now that I've had a thought about it:

From my time as a cycling fan, I can't decide between these two Tour de France-winning attacks:

YouTube Video

or

YouTube Video

Also, this GT-winning performance is up there amongst it (this video is part 1/3):

YouTube Video

I'd also like to add a few other goosebump moments:

1989, Greg Lemond winning the Tour with 8 seconds over Fignon: http://www.youtub...3RV2ukMPNc (I was way too young to see it live though)

1995, Indurain cracking everybody by just riding tempo: http://www.youtub...hEKRjhLuds (still a bit too early for me as a spectator)

2003, when Ullrich powered away from Armstrong on the Plateau de Bonascre: http://www.youtub...ibxMHA0JLY

2007, Riccardo Ricco winning the Giro stage to Tre Cime Lavaredo: http://www.youtub...NaDbIYTvDY

2007, Fabian Cancellara winning the 3rd stage of the Tour in the yellow jersey: http://www.youtub...JNLMYpr2TM

2008, Emanuele Sella flying up the stunning Passo Fedaia: http://www.youtub...LLWZLs2hPg

2008, Valverde ripping it up at the finish of the first stage and taking the yellow jersey: http://www.youtub...WoFyMcK9OM

2008, Sastre winning the Tour on Alpe d'Huez: http://www.youtub...xFPAFj6XDM

2009, Valverde winning the Dauphiné on Mt. Ventoux: http://www.youtub...&t=53s (this whole video is absolutely epic btw)

2010, the grinding battle between Basso and Evans on the Zoncolan: http://www.youtub...o-IIZrA8Bk

2011, the absolutely amazing stage 15 of the Giro d'Italia: http://www.youtub...QW30DO2DwU (this video only shows the last kilometres)

That should keep all of you entertained for a while! Smile

And Kumazan: Great shout with Freire. That win is definitely up there as well.

Thanks Squire, a lot of moments I had kinda thought about, and now I can watch them easily too.

Angliru 08 was just awesome. Sella's win was great too!

And of course I love Valverde's features in your post Smile

My earliest memory is Joseba Beloki crashing and Armstrong going through a field, also the Ulrich and Armstrong battles.

2006 tour, Floyd Landis attack to take yellow, only to lose it to Peiroro after ben caught doping.

2008 tour, Cavendish's win in Figeac, Sastre's attack on Alpe du Huez. Menchov crashing uphill at Prato Nevoso.

2009 Giro, Menchov crashing in a TT.

A few memories that I will never forget, especially Menchov crashing a few metres from the finish in the Giro in Rome and crashing uphill at Prato Nevoso. Funny moments Grin

Ahh, we sure have some young people on this board or people who havent followed the sport for a long time.

The two great are of course Armstrong and Eddie Mercx, their races where extra ordinary and their cycling ability was out of this world.

But the greatest race in the history of the TDF is by far the 1989 race, Lemond/Fignon changing shirts and never being furter apart then seconds, and after the first timetrial never more then under 8sec´s apart.

That race despite me not seeing it live is the greatest moment in cycling.

Other races are Indurain´s, Contador´s win, who can forget Contador, his first win not that particular, but his second in 2010, where he didn´t know about Andy loosing his chain just as he was about to attack and Contador riding away and winning the TdF that day.

I follow cycling since the Tour of 2010. I think I also followed Tour 2009, but I am not sure. The battle between Fignon and LeMond is also really sPecial. The worldchampionships in 1995 were amazing with Olano winning and Indurain being a domestique for him. Keep the moments coming!

Last years TdF stage 18, one hell of an attack by Schlek, and maybe even more impressive was the time Evans made back up just riding tempo.

Being Irish i developed an interest in cycling in the days of Kelly and Roche and as Roche's 1987 Tour de France victory has already been refered to in this thread here is the same years World Championship finish, quite an exciting finish it is to.

Personally, I have two pretty great moments. The first, of which I was not into cycling at that poor, was one during Armstrongs reign at the Tour. Going down a descent and chasing an escapee, a rider goes down in front of Armstrong, who then precedes to ride off the road on to the grassy field, ride to the other side of the Feild, jumps off his bike, cyclocrosses it access a ditch, and rejoins the main field. I forget which year and stage.

The second was my first real experience with a grand tour. The 2010 Giro, the stage up the Strade Bianchi. With an abundance of rain and mud, Cadel Evans showed that his mountain biking skills do come in handy in some road events.

There's deffinately more, like Garmin's Team Classification win at last years Tour, but these are the most predominant.

Out of the ones I can think of off the top of my head, the best one that I can think of is this:

YouTube Video

As much as people may hate Armstrong (and indeed I do), you have to admit... this was pretty special.

EDIT: This was the incident that Pinktay3 was referring to.
