What in fact does the energy gel does? I've been wondering this several years, but never really knew what it does. Maybe someone can help me? |

When the energy gel is in use, the red decreases much slower. Therefore you best use it during an attack/sprint. So best click on it before the sprint, as it takes some time to get the effect starting.

Is the effect on when it's "burning"? |

Thanks.. So on a mountain stage, it would be a great decision to use it before you've planned to attack.. Allways thought that it was better after the attack to regain the lost "red bar".. |

I used to think that, too. But indeed, you have to use it right before the attack, when it starts burning, that's the time to go! |

How about if you want to increase the pace from the peloton and you send 2 of your guys up front to increase the rhythm. Does the gel make them pull harder or longer, or it's effect is just for sprinting and attacking?
Do you usually use the gel on every rider or just on attackers/sprinters?

Its effect is for the red bar, so if you pull hard enough, it makes them last a bit longer. (though they'd have to be pulling at above effort 85). I, personally, use the gel mostly in a sprint or over a tough cobbled section.
I always use all my energy gells in a race.
