I just have the feeling that we should have seen a world record today. Warmer conditions, and a better start for Bolt would have given us one I think.

If he had given his all in the semis I guess we would have seen one,

And I was explaining my wife about the domination by the African or African-based / black athletes due to their genes (and yes, determination), comes a white guy showing up winning silver........ Luckily, the 100m were back to non-white, much easier to explain.

A French physiologist, not sure who, analysed Lemaître body and came to the conclusion that despite being white, he's very much like West-African sprinters (or their lineage : Caribbean sprinters), be it by his muscles, his joints, his ability to produce high efforts with barely any warm up, etc. One could have thought he'd be rather close to Italian sprinters from the 80's instead, but he's not.

So, a "white" guy" doesn't really mean a thing. Colour doesn't always mean much. Pfft

Amazing prestation from Henrik Ingebritsen getting 5th place in the 1500 m final. Had he been better positioned or started his amazing sprint earlier he would have taken a medal at his first olympics at 21 years old. Just amazing by him! Smile

Incredible 1500 m. But once again the "Olympic spirit" has been fooled. The winning Algerian withdrew from the 800 m, got fired from the O.G. because he didn't fight, came back with a medical certificate saying he was injured, and probably healed at miraculous speed to gain it.
Still, 3'35"... *drools*

What I don't get is why the Algerian was DQ'd from the games for not racing the 800m while it was perfectly fine for Bourgain to do the same in the Olympic RR.

I guess it's more accepted to not finish a road race in cycling than a 800m race of running. He could at least have jogged to the finish.

Why did nobody mentioned Epke Zonderland, winning the gold medal for the men's horizontal bar??? The first ever male individual gymnastic gold for the Netherlands and he's the only one in the world that is capable of. and daring to, do 3 flight elements in a row. Awesome!!

Not to finish the race is one thing, but giving up after a couple of kilometres is not different than what the Algerian did. Then again, he's Algerian. Small market for the Olympic sponsors. Wink
