So here we go with our first race in February. It´s going to be very hot the next days as our team is travelling to Qatar and Oman these days. The Tour of Qatar is something for pure sprinters as five of six stages are completely flat with big chances for bunch sprints. The most important stage is already the second with a short team time trial. Our team squad might be strong enough to keep it up there. Siutsou and Knees should be able to bring us in a nice position for the last 4 stages. Our team leader is of course Mark Cavendish. We´ve sent a great sprint team with Flecha as decent puncheur, Eisel and Sutton for the final sprint train.
Especially the sprint competition is quite strong in Qatar. Petacchi, Hushovd, Rojas, Bennati, Chicchi and Degenkolb are the most famous names over there. This is also a great thing for Cavendish because with nice opponents a possible win, would be even more fun. Our goal is to win at least 1-2 stages. The overall situation is not clear before the TTT isn´t done. So let´s hope for a nice time in Qatar.

Thanks!

Welcome to Qatar! We´re in the hot desert and we´re expecting a great sprint finish today hopefully with Mark Cavendish. His shape isn´t brilliant but still good enough to win this stage.

Some riders were trying a nice trip today. The group wasn´t strong enough even with Rui Costa in it. The pack brought them back with ease in the end.

So everything was ready for the final sprint final. Our train worked great so far with Knees, Flecha, Eisel, Sutton and Mark Cavendish. But also BMC for Hushovd and Lampre with Petacchi were played quite good.

Petacchi made an early move with Bennati and Rojas on his wheel. Van Avermaet seemed to be stronger than his captain Hushovd. Mark Cavendish was already some metres behind but his speed was incredible.

He closed the gap pretty fast while Rojas took the lead. We were already celebrating our second next win, when Thor Hushovd came unbelievable quick from behind. He had the most energy left for sure.

Look at that now! Hushovd is passing Cavendish on the last metre. Bad luck for us but it´s still a great opening stage for us and Mark. Congrats to BMC and Hushovd. Rojas took the third stage.

solid race! who won the sprints? If it wasn't mark then maybe you should bring the break away back and then get Cavendish some extra seconds! But nice 2nd place and hopeful you can do 1 better next time!

Sorry can´t remember who won those sprints. But your´re right, this could be an alternative to get some seconds, we´ll see. |

Day two in Qatar brings the first decision in the overall ranking. The short team time trial is giving many teams a chance to bring their leader in a good position. Also Sky is one of them, trying to improve Cavendish´s race situation today.

Team Sky was one of those teams with a bad day. Probably I should have simulate that one but I really thought I could do it Bad luck! We lost the whole Tour of Qatar today, loosing 52 seconds to the stage winner.

RadioShack-Nissan was way better with Cancellara, Posthuma and Sergent in their squad. No team was able to keep it up with those guys. Very depressing day for us and for many other teams, too. But there was still BMC with Hushovd, the overall leader. Is he able to defend the yellow jersey?

Well, the second place was the best result, they were able to get today after RadioShack set this incredible time. But they lost only 12 seconds with Thor Hushovd, which brought him the leader´s jersey again. This is going to be a nice week in the sprints hopefully. Our main goal should be a single stage win by now.

The stage finish was affected by a strong wind. Our squad was quite strong placed in the first part of the bunch. Barry and Knees brought Cavendish in a good position for the last kilometres. Flecha, Eisel and Sutton made the final leadout.
Juan Antonio Flecha took the lead after Eisel´s hard work. Cavendish looked very good so far, while Hushovd was right next to him in the yellow jersey.
Again bad luck for Sky. We were blocked by some cukes. Sutton had no chance to pull the final sprint for his captain. Hushovd´s position was of course much better with Petacchi and Bennati behind him.
Well deserved stage win for Petacchi after a great acceleration. Hushovd only took the 4th today while Bennati got some extra seconds on the third. Cavendish managed the 7th position in the end. Quite disappointing day for our team. But there still three chances to win a stage.

@Sutty, You´re right! Those times are not that good for him. Hopefully the situation will change quickly!
@Vladuu, Thanks man. I´m very glad to hear that.
@baia, We´ll try our best. Thanks for supporting us.
All in all the stage was not very exciting and after the small break was back in the pack, the sprinter teams started their preperation for the stage final. Team Sky had a good day with a way sprint train than yesterday. BMC for Hushovd and Lampre for Petacchi were also in front while Bennati was almost alone.
When the sprint began, it was Thor Hushovd pulling this one for Bennati and Rojas. Cavendish missed the right moment for his fast move. His accleration was strong enough and maybe he was even the fastest.
But it was still not enough today. Bennati takes the stage and also the overall lead by Hushovd. Rojas and Hushovd finished on the podium, too. Cavendish with another disappointing result on the 5th position.

There are only two chances left for Mark Cavendish to get that missing stage win here in Qatar. The overall is already history for us but there´s still something to get here for Sky.
Our sprint preperation was by far the best one by our squad these days. Mark Cavendish had all his energy left with Sutton and Eisel in front of him. Hushovd and Petacchi were right next to him with their team mates. Pretty nice situation.
Bernhard Eisel opened up the sprint with Sutton and Cavendish in his slipstream. BMC and Lampre were still waiting with the sprint, when Grega Bole made the final move for his captain Petacchi.
Mark Cavendish took the lead by his leadout man Sutton and everything looked like a great stage win for Team Sky. Behind him, it was Petacchi, coming with an incredible pace next to Rojas and Van Avermaet. Thor Hushovd wasn´t there in those moments.
Well, come on PCM!? That one was quite strange. Petacchi came with an unreal speed from behind on the last metres, passing Cavendish on the line. We were already celebrating the first win in Qatar, when it happened. Pretty disappointing final for us. Hushovd came in as 4th just behind Rojas.
