i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/pcm11%20stages/amstel_01.png

Decided to give it a shot at the new Amstel route. It's my first try at an Ardennes Classic, so it's not really great. Especially graphic-wise, it's not perfect, but it's very nice to play and gives reasonably realistic results.

Also, I've avoided using narrow roads, since I find them incredibly frustrating when playing the Ardennes. There's no need to worry about that preventing any selection, because there will be splits on the final climbs.

Anyway, enjoy - http://www.mediaf...uz25b9e78w

@ sergiodestructor - Just saw your post. Here's a new link.

Tested, then played the previous version of the AGR. Indeed, it's much better with no narrow roads, and there weren't many problems in creating a select group (this in fact occurred with rider attacks, since now attacks worked). The problem with the previous version (Roturn's I think) was that it was made for PCM 10, so narrow roads created more selection while not being frustrating since there was no solid rider model Wink

One problem though is that the Cauberg is only 850 meters long, the sprint starts at 1.5 kms and the run-in to the Cauberg in the end is a descent. What happens is that they reach the Cauberg with way too much speed, and it doesn't provide many chances of outsprinting the other riders: those who start sprinting in the front of the group usually will win (by first I mean 3,4 positions). Also there's a 'bug' in PCM 11 when it comes to sprinting on a descent then suddenly on a very steep gradient, some riders create a huge unrealistic gap (they go 1.5 the speed of the others when they reach the gradient).

I remember that, in PCM 09 and earlier games, when stages were generated by profile first (rather than terrain first), Cyanide would 'cheat' in the climbs and usually make them longer and steeper because of the scale of the game. I guess that they have changed the scale when the new stages were introduced in PCM 10, but another thing that happened was that the whole sprint happened on the climb, since they were longer. The Cauberg, for example, was 2 kms long climbing 136 meters, while yours is (similar to the real one) 890 meters long climbing 51 meters. So my question is: don't you think it would be better to modify the terrain/profile so the Cauberg is longer (less realistic) but at the same time more realistic, since most of the sprint would be situated on the climb (and better gameplay)? If not, at least making the descent before the Cauberg earlier and then the sprint starting on flat roads will already be better. Even if it's not that realistic, the gameplay will be much better Smile

Btw, it must have taken some time to add description to all those climbs Pfft (too much text, sorry Frown)

Thanks for the testing, luigi. Smile

I thought about what you said myself too, and I think I'll give it a shot at modifying the terrain near the Cauberg when I get the time to. I fully agree that it might give more realistic results by changing the climb slightly.

I'll see what I can do and reupload once finished. Smile

Oh, and I forgot to include these images in the previous post!

I've been testing out your idea a bit, luigi, and I've ended up with a new version I think is pretty decent. I started by editing the terrain around the Cauberg to lengthen it, and I ended up giving all the final, decisive climbs a new look.

Wolfsberg, Loorberg, Gulpenerberg, Kruisberg, Eyserbosweg, Fromberg, Keutenberg and Cauberg have all been given a bit more length, to make the race a bit more like in real life. Enjoy a new, very selective race!

Here's the new profile:

Awesome! The hills look quite steep! I also like the new look of the Cauberg. I will put in my game soon.

Btw, If you have got some spare time, could you then make the 1995 WC in Duitama? That would be awesome!

Wow, Pellizotti, now this is even more awesome! I know you're always looking for the best gameplay, so I hoped you'd do some updates, but I didn't expect that many great changes Smile The new climbs are fantastic, and the course is naturally much more selective now (which is good because I kept getting Cancellara, Hushovd and even Boonen doing Top 10~5 performances while testing the first version - although it could be said their form might be great since it's single player and April). The new Cauberg is amazing and can totally be the race decider.

However, I feel that the final part of the course might have become quite over selective. I don't know how the results went for you (you seem to have got a group sprint in the screen, which would be what I was looking forward to), but for me, in the 4 times I've played it (yeah, it's that amazing Pfft) they all got won in a solo ride = no sprint on Cauberg. And the riders in the Top 10 all came in groups no bigger than 3 riders.

This selectiveness can't be 'blamed' only on the course. The fact is the AI approaches this very differently than what happens in real life, attacking all over the time when it's less than 40 kms to go rather than waiting for the sprint.

Now, it isn't really bad that the game goes differently than the usually boring real life tactics, and in PCM 09 it was also kinda like this (several attacks). But nevertheless, I think that some climbs are harder than they could be. I feel that especially the Keutenberg is way too decisive (I think in all my tests the solo winning move came here).

If you do decide to try some small changes to ease the climbs a bit for a final version, another thing which you could see is the beginning of the last climbs. Most of them, f.e. the Gulpenerberg and Eyserbosweg, can be real 'gap' killers. You get this 0%~10% transition in a few meters and suddenly a whole 35 or 40 seconds gap is gone (especially when you more than one rider on the front group). So if you elevate the road point which marks the beginning of the climb, you get it smoother and takes out this problem. And if you do go on with a v3, there's also a graphical bug with the roads right after the Cauberg and another graphical bug with the podium. Another thing which would be nice is if you added the AGR beginning commentary to the stage (like in Cya's version) Wink

Boy I must be so annoying Pfft But I'm only writing this post because I know you put thought into the feedback you receive (which is good Wink). So thanks for the attention, and thanks for making this race even more enjoyable Smile

Ps.: just in you case you get worried that a 3rd 'v' is too much, the PCMFrance PCM 11 DB has gone up to a V10 Pfft

Thanks again for pointing out the small flaws. I'll see what I can do and upload a V3 later. Wink

And don't feel like you're annoying me. I really appreciate the testing and constructive critiscm. Without that, there's no way for me to know what I need to change. Smile

Oh, and thanks lokytrew!

I could give the Duitama worlds a shot, but I'd very much appreciate if you could find me some information about the course, since I prefer not to spend time searching for that myself. Smile

I want to implement your version on Amstel into my game instead of the old version, could someone kindly tell me how to replace is and add new races to the game.

Thanks Grin

Easiest way would just be to copy the name of the current AGR files (top_maastricht_roturn on the PCMDaily DB), then delete the files, give Pellizotti's stage files the same name and place them on the CM_stages folder. Since they're the same style of race an edit to the DB wouldn't really be needed. But you might want to check if some values have changed, and if yes, you'd need to edit the DB (STA_stage - values like length, which is less important, but mainly the HIL/MO ratio and uphillsprint, which shouldn't have changed but anyway, better check). You can see these values by opening the .cds file with the Stage Viewer/Editor.

For adding new races you'd need to add it to the DB (rather than only replacing stages), and for variants, yes, but you need to make sure you won't be overwriting another variant and that the .descr file is added in the .rules file.
