You can set the sprint aggressiveness but everything else should not play a role in sprints.
There are three bars, the green, the red and the yellow bar. If any of them is empty before the finish line, your rider will lose contact and/or positions (assuming the AI did conserve the bars better for the best riders).
... and don't forget to use that gel when sprinting up.

I am not sure about the sprint bar in uphill sprints, but don't forget to use that gel when sprinting up.

You are mentioning a sprint bar, seperate from the red bar. I'm confused, I don't think I've ever seen such a thing as a sprint bar? I mean, on the rider interface I see the green yellow and red bar, as well as the energy gel icon. Am I overlooking something? What's the sprint bar you are talking about?

Well there was such a thing in PCM 09, not in PCM 10 or 11? Which bar are you talking about:

For me, when I get the option to sprint, the rider menu changes. It removes the green, red and yellow bar and just gives me an option to select sprint style (aggressive/normal/fairplay).

I don't see any other bars during that time. When you say 'sprint bar' do you mean the sprint rider interface as a whole or are you actually referring to another bar like the green/yellow/red bar?

I am confused by the two classic races, ardennes classics Amstel Gold Race and Fleche wallonne. The things they have in common is that they end with a steep uphill, and are according to me incredibly hard to win.

Le me just start by saying that I´ve never had the pleasure of having Gilbert in my team (Hill 84 in the daily VB 1 database) so usually I play with a guy between 79 and 81 in Hillstat.

I am pretty good on other races. The cobbles classics is my best area,(see my little guide in the beginning of this thread) but the uphill sprint is a big issue for me. What is the best way to win?

Scenario 1: There are a maybe 4-5 guys in the front and I follow the one I think is the strongest, by 1 km to go and hope to stick to his wheel and then overtake him with 400 something metres to go

Scenario 2: Same amount of guys but Instead of following the best guy I just have the dot, try to maintain the same speed as everyone, don´t followany guy but with around 400 metres to go I try to follow someone and then overtake him.

Scenario 3: I just sprint for myself and hopes for the best along the other riders.

It doesn´t have to be one of these scenarios, but previously I have tried nr 1 a couple of times and I don´t think I´ve ever won, but on the other hand I seldom have a guy spcialized for the ardennes classics.
So what successful strategy have u used?

Well, yesterday i played Fleche Wallonne, and this was my strategy:

level: extreme, custom team with Marcato 79 VAL and Bakelants 79 VAL .

I made an attack with marcato in last 10 kms, but the peloton caught him, later, gilbert attacks at 5 kms, but again, peloton caught him. So, there is HUY, the sprint began and i put "dot" and 99%, Bakelants was in front, gilbert starts his sprint at 900 mts of finish, and in this moment i put Bakelants to follow him, at 400 mts to finish, i sprint and won the race Smile

Did you have him observing other riders? The attack buttons are blocked when observing, and stay like that for a bit more time after you stop it.

I think its time to begin a discussion about general raxes in pcm2011.
If you go to the link in my signature you will see my squad. I havent posted results there but i will post one here. Btw im using the custom starter db so names are wrong but oh well.
In the GP de Besseges i was very confused. On the laststage which has many small hills and is a short stage which should be won by a sprinter. I attacked with Peter Stutina (who was only 46 seconds behind Hutarovich (gc leader and fdj leader).
The attackprompted chasing by FDJ and eurocar. But with 15kms to go the break had a lead of 2 minutes and the Peolton had stopped chasing and fdj had given up. Sutina finished last out of the breakaway rider but had the same time. He won the GC by 2'06 and i was shocked as to why FDJ nd other teams just stopped chasing.
Then today the second stage of the tour of qatar, which has the same route, was won by my rider Sagan after an attack and he now leads the GC by 1'08 or so ahead of the Peloton.

I just dont know why but the chasing teams seem to give up on that stage route. So confysing although it makes me happy to win Smile. Btw im playing on Hard difficulty.

Probably buy in coming days or weeks. Any recommendation for which DBs are the best and which is the most recent (anyone 2014?)? Also, advisable to change/replace XML files or something like that?

Daily's 2012 update was the best 2011's database IMO. The 2011 wasn't very stable but the second was very big and well-built.

Well I have only ever really used the Pcm Daily 2012 db, I'm currently in 2024 so I guess I have to recommend it, although my save is probs edited more than any other save out there (just to make it playable).
- Around 2021/2022 - The game can't handle the sponsors and you have to do a ton of editing if you don't want 20 teams with the same name (though you probs won't get that far.)
- Don't know about any other xml files, the ones that exist are alright but the riders all start out really weak.

Atlantius made a conversion of the Pcm Daily 2013 database.

Lofkvist has made a 2014 database of sorts so you should check that out, won't take long to find his thread.

You should definitely go to Lofvkist's thread and download the stages for: La Tropicale Amissa Bongo . For me that is one of the most enjoyable routes out there for any PCM I have played.

Also download the Tour de Beauce, from the same thread if you want more variety. He has also made the Vuelta a Colombia, but I am yet to try that one. I have a ton of races/jerseys so ask if you want any.

I reckon editing some stuff into the game makes it way more enjoyable and unique so do some of that, see this calendar for January:

i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag411/ramblingman92/11_zpsada62c04.jpg

Hope you get around to getting it, for me the gameplay is a ton better than PCM 2013. Post here if you do. Wink

Thanks for the suggestions. I ordered it for a fiver and look forward to playing it. So DB12 likely then, but maybe already downloading Atlantius' DB to be on the save side. Cool

Weak riders in the XML files. Shame, I had hoped for a few Sagans and early stars in the career but nevermind then.

You have said so much about the game being better than current versions of PCM, I had to "risk" it. Wink

Well, I'm a bit confused by the ton of Pro Continental teams. Damn. PCM12 & 13 did that way better. Wink

Started a career in 2013 with Saxo Bank - Sunguard ( yeah, I went 2011 oldskool) but only played a few races and the game just feels so much better than PCM12 and especially than that nervous PCM13. It runs smooth, I like the drafting and the peloton splits. It's also not so overboarded with gimmicks in the interface, especially the gameplay HUD is nice clean and you have to do stuff more yourself (not just "take position" etc ). Most of all, the races seem to be way better. And holy shit, time gaps... you know. I did not know such a thing existed. Pfft

Well, I hope I'm not hyping myself up there but for now, but I'm enjoying it just fine. At least more than I ever did PCM13. Wink

(Now if only there was Bucaramanga Classic for PCM11 Sad )

Just played Strade Bianche, and despite the finish not looking like Strade Bianche at all, it was probably one of the best races in a PCM game I had for a very long time. Some thrilling racing. Did I just upgrade into PCM heaven by downgrading? Hope so. Pfft

Then you should enjoy Milan - San Remo and the cobbled races. Wink

Love the gameplay, especially in monuments. Unfortunately, especially in monuments, the game likes to crash within the 3D race for no apparent reason. Common issue or any tips?
