8th is a good result (didn't I say that after the Amstel???)

Gilbert is a beast. Still, a good result with Fuglsang and Geschke. Smile

Thanks guys.

Sorry for the lack of activity here in the recent days. Something bugged up in the save game during Romandie, so I had to spend a few days trying to solve the problem. I eventually managed to, but at the cost of having to use the latest weeklysave file, one day before LBL. Therefore I had to play that once again, losing the great 8th place from Fuglsang. Only a 20th this time, after running it in detailed simulation.

You're probably wondering why. Well, I figured it would be more fair without a second chance, and an opportunity to improve the result even further. It's too late to do anything about it now, so instead of an 8th place, our top result in LBL is 20th.

On the positive side, I'll start working on the Romandie preview right now, and should have it up a bit later today. So stay tuned for more racing soon!

That's, well, partly nice to hear Wink Nice that you'll post soon. A pity with LBL but I wouldn't care too much: For us, you'll still be 8th, not 20th Wink

Small time gains on various stages proved to be key in Frank Schleck's overall success last year. A few seconds here and there, plus a very good time trial eventually saw him distancing closest challenger, Chris Froome, by almost a minute. We also had a pretty nice race, even though we noted nothing near a top result overall.

The stages:

Spoiler:

In my opinion one of the more interesting routes in recent time. Unlike usually, we have plenty of hard stages where we should see some selection. I'm thinking mainly of the last three ones, which will be where the race gets decided. Especially the last stage, the mountain time trial to Crans-Montana, will be crucial.

Project squad:

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/project/tdr_pre_07.png

After participating in all three of the Ardennes Classics, Lagutin is in great form and will therefore, at least to a beginning, lead the team here. We're not ruling out a change in that situation though, in case Van den Broeck hits Giro form already at the end of this race. But mainly, this is a preparation race.

Startlist and favourites:

Spoiler:

By looking at the route, I have to say that it looks like almost perfectly suited for Andreas Klöden. However, he wont have an easy time with names such as Marco Marzano, Kanstantsin Sivtsov and Damiano Cunego as main rivals. I'm also very much warning for the Liquigas duo Michele Scarponi and Carlos Alberto Betancur. Also, we should definitely not rule out our Van den Broeck.

Thank you! Smile

Marzano certainly has developed at an incredible speed. Italy's best climber already, and one of the main favourites for the Giro. Here's his stats:

pcmdaily.com/images/flags/CH.png Tour de Romandie - Stage 1 pcmdaily.com/images/flags/CH.png

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/project/tdr_pre_01.png

Unsurprisingly, the first stage is a prologue. At a length of just three kilometres, it's unlikely to shake up the general classification much, but it will at least give us a small look at who's in shape and who's not.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/project/tdr_01.jpg

A slightly surprising winner in the end. Rather than one of the main favourites such as David Zabriskie, it was the young Portuguese Rui Costa who clocked the fastest time during the day. Many riders came very close to him, but no one came close enough. Our top result today was Van den Broeck's 30th, which made us start thinking about possibly upgrading him into leader's role, instead of Lagutin.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/project/tdr_pre_02.png

Day number two is set to be a mountainous one, but it's in my opinion probably too easy for the GC contenders to try their legs. Therefore this seems like a perfect opportunity for a breakaway to stay clear for the victory.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/project/tdr_02.jpg

We tried to colour the race, but Lagutin's strong attack was brought back in the finale, and we were down to a mass sprint instead. Kiwi champion Hayden Roulston edged out Thomas Dekker and Eduardo Gonzalo. Klöden and Scarponi both in the Top 10.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/project/tdr_pre_03.png

Yet another day that's kind of hard to predict. It's apparently set as a hilly one, but once again, I think it's too easy. There's a long way of flat after the top of the last difficult climb. Mass sprint again most likely I'd say.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/project/tdr_03.jpg

A heartbreaking end for the breakaway, with Geraint Thomas being robbed of the victory in the last 400 metres. Allan Davis profited from the perfectly timed catch to slip away with the victory, just in front of José Joaquin Rojas and Romain Feillu. No important GC changes.

@ MitchNL - Thanks! Smile

@ alex lens - Might be a bit of an exaggeration. He only finished second on a stage after all. But thanks. Wink

Just because I'm a nice guy, here's part two already! Pfft

pcmdaily.com/images/flags/CH.png Tour de Romandie - Stage 4 pcmdaily.com/images/flags/CH.png

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/project/tdr_pre_04.png

To kick off the second, crucial part of this race, we hit stage four, and an uphill finish. It's still quite an easy day however, and the final 'climb' to the finish in Charmey isn't exactly the steepest one. Still, gaps might appear.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/project/tdr_04.jpg

Once again, we tried to surprise, and once again, Lagutin's mobe was closed down. This time just 200 metres from the line, annoyingly. Even more frustrating was the fact that he was pushed down to 5th, missing bonus seconds. Of the four who overtook him, Marzano proved fastest, pipping Mathias Frank and Rigoberto Uran.

Spoiler:

pcmdaily.com/images/flags/CH.png Tour de Romandie - Stage 5 pcmdaily.com/images/flags/CH.png

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/project/tdr_pre_05.png

Of the road stages, this one is by far the hardest one. Some serious climbs along the route, and with the last one topping out just twenty kilometres of downhill away from the finish line, it's most likely the best opportunity for the GC contenders to distance their rivals. GC shuffle expected.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/project/tdr_05.jpg

Lagutin's aggressive riding finally payed off today. After attacking at the top of the last climb of the day, he managed to catch the four remaining members of the early breakaway in the finale and sprint to third place behind Steve Morabito and David Millar. That meant bonus seconds, and more importantly, a gap over the other favourites!

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/project/tdr_06.jpg

Damiano Cunego led Thomas Löfkvist and Kevin De Weert over the line 42 seconds later, with the main field another 15 seconds behind these. Van den Broeck, with by far his best legs so far in this race, finished 11th, celebrating his team mate's race lead.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/project/tdr_pre_06.png

No flat day with champagne drinking in this race. Instead a brutal 16 kilometer mountain time trial from Sion to Crans-Montana. On a climb this hard, it's not impossible that we see the climbers fighting for the victory rather than the pure timetriallists. We'll try to defend the race lead.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/project/tdr_07.jpg

After saving energy all week with this very day in mind, Van den Broeck stormed up the climb, completely demolishing all earlier top times. The Belgian even caught Iuri Trofimov in the final kilometer.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/project/tdr_08.jpg

It turned out that nobody could come even close to Van den Broeck's time. Also the yellow jersey Lagutin had to concede a huge loss to his team mate today, amazingly even enough to lose his lead! He also fended off the other favourites in the overall, making it a 1-2!

What an amazing timetrial by Van den Broeck, and a nice 1-2 in the GC!
Let the Giro come!

And is there anyone here on the forum who works at Cyanide and can add the Pelli level? I'm serious, give this man a challenge!

By the way, I would love to see you do a story with RadioShack, let's see if you can win every stage you ride Pfft
